- This is a Brawl deck for MTG Arena with Grist, Voracious Larva as the commander. This is a graveyard golgari green/black reanimator deck that uses tutors to find cards like Accursed Marauder to destroy Nadu, Winged Wisdom, which is popular in the format. The latest set at the time of recording is Modern Horizons 3, or MH3

You can try Tinybones Trinket Thief with the same sac creatures as your removal package as well. I've found that when it's a version of the deck with tons of counterspells, the hand destruction has been doing a good job of making it so they can't stop me from casting my important spells.
This is therapeutic, and i haven't even played against nadu. I just opened him in my 3 free packs, built a deck, played like 5 times, lost 0 times and decided not to play it again.

Pure salt from the Bird players makes me feel warm and fuzzy on the inside.

I was shocked at how fun Grist is.
Being able to recur 5+ copies of every creature in your grave is bananas.
Grist is slowly becoming one of my favourite golgari commanders so i’m happy to see the love for her
CGB seems to have a love hate relationship with birds. Mesa Falcon, Yorion, Nadu, and I’m certain he bolts the bird as much as permitted.

What the hell are they thinking? That I have somewhere important to be and I just forgot that? That I'm going to concede, rather than laugh at their childish tantrum - which only gets funnier the longer they keep it up?
The minute they start roping, not only have I won, but I gain the moral high ground, no matter how dirty and underhanded my deck was 🙂.

My solution was the tried and tested Talrand "Oops all Counterspells" deck
Countered the Shuko and they scooped.
I built nadu as a pure value engine and have more fun and have a much better win loss rate consistent with my group’s power level. The wincon is laboratory maniac rather than stomping which honestly makes for a really fun game. Trying to win bc I accidentally put him in the graveyard is fun but isn’t really something that happens. Nadu can be fun for others if you build something quirky rather than trying to crush your pod

I like Golgari against Nadu, I usually do Old Rustein Re-animation which offers a nice kit against them; its highly enjoyable to flood them with re-animated Sheoldreds and Vorinclexes. This definitely makes me want to try Grist as well.

We need dunking on the monored type of deck.
I like simic a lot, but Nadu is nuts. An absolutely catastrophic example of power creep. 3 mana for a 3/4 flyer on its own is power creep. But giving each creature you control 2 potential growth spirals a turn is insane. nadu could cost 5 mana and it would still be a popular simic commander. Wizards severely screwed up with the bird. Glad CGB found a way to bring the bird down a bit.

@@jackattackhissnack not a bad strategy. Nadu punishes targeted interaction, so just play something really big, really fast.
Maybe thats a stupid question. But how is Grist a Golgari Commander? With only green manasymbols on the card?
The back half has a B/G color identity, as signified by the weird little symbol in the typline box on the back half. The same is true with all the flip-walkers in MH3, for example Ral is technically U/R despite only having red in it's casting cost.
backside of card has golgari colors. This is also why Etali, Primal Conqueror is a gruul commander. The flip side or mana activated ability colors also count towards the commanders colors.

@@vanikkan872 yep! Also colored abilities are included too. An example like Toxrill being a dimir commander despite only being black in its casting cost.

In Brawl, it will most likely see a rebalance rather than a ban, but I do hope for a ban in Modern

So many things could have made Nadu not broken. Make him a 3/3 so he can be bolted; make his effect only trigger twice in total counting everything; make it only affect him and trigger twice a turn. They flubbed this so much. ;_;
Someone may want a refund for their wildcards. just went against someone with this deck with my incomplete nadu deck, only triggered nadu twice the entiregame because i didnt get any equipment, still won
I would love to know if all he is facing is Nadu everytime, or if thats all he put into the video is his Nadu matches. Surely it isnt THIS overplayed lol.

With how many Nadu decks are on Arena, it's nice to see them get messed with. I stopped playing Brawl because of all the Nadu. I'd rather play against Baral.

@@Sicdirewolf Nadu players seem to be weak as a group. Probably a lot of players saw one of the most busted Commanders in a while and figured they'd auto-dumpster every deck they went against. So when they meet any resistance, it's the biggest level of cognitive dissonance and they just run away. Unable to play out a game in which they don't get their way immediately.
Is it good in other match-up? Or do you believe the build is a little bit too Nadu oriented?
have you played brawl in the last few weeks? its literally 80%-90% nadu. there are no other match-ups
So, you almost lost to a nadu with equipment that equips for 3 mana. And your commander only affected nadu indirectly by destroying an artifact.

I think mr Gutterbones is not a good fit in this deck
It was supposed to be a Cult Conscript. You can see in the intro the list has the Conscript and Gutterbones was taken out.
It's always hilarious when the player with the toxic deck ropes because they can't do the broken thing one time.
I tried 6 games with this list and never once saw Nadu.
Matchmaking is Brawl is fucked.

I don't see the point of making your opponent wait for the timeouts. Like... If they want to rage quit, they should just concede. Forcing you to wait through the timeouts just feels like they're throwing a tantrum because they aren't winning... But also will be forced to forfeit anyway.
What is at the base of your nose?
I have found Voja works really well against Nadu, ramp hard into elves and Voja and overwhelm the voja deck. Voja is expensive to remove so it slows down Nadu removal and Voja makes everything huge so just move in and kill the player. Haven't lost to Nadu on brawl yet with my Voja deck

Yeah a lot of fast aggro commanders can beat nadu easily. Tajic can do it, ragavan can very easily, but ragavan is hellqueue, and many others
