    Messmer is based on the summerian god, Ningishzida, which translates to "lord of the good tree". Messmer "planted" the Erdtree by piling up corpses. That first scene shows Marika entering the Erdtree, which we know has a gold lining around it. The Erdtree roots are always surrounded by corpses. Marika surrounded the Erdtree in gold to veil the fact that it is made entirely of CORPSES. That is the shadow of the Erdtree.

      I like this one, the Erdtree looks gold and ethereal because it's an illusion. It's really a corpse tree in the Land of Shadow and the only solid portion we see is the sealed portal. Very cool.

    I think the pile of bodies is the entrance of another tree and those golden skies are the Lands Between. The purple skies are the Land of Shadow. It seems as if Marika is closing whatever that link or portal is.

    I think the wall of corpses in the beginning are the Erdtree, or at least, merged with the Erdtree. The golden opening in the middle where Marika is, is similar to the gap in the Erdtree where we enter to fight Radagon and the Elden Beast

      @@romerobritto9094 Almost like it’s a different realm. Remember the fight with the Elden Beast is in a peculiar room. Not to mention, to enter the boss room with Radagon requires teleporting through a white wall, so in the trailer, she could literally be creating some pocket dimension to protect the Elden Ring… Ooooor (bear with me 😅) remember Ranni’s spell that conjures Rennala in her prime? That realm is very similar to the room we fight the Elden Beast, only the full moon is present instead of the hundreds of trees. What if Marika is doing something similar to what Ranni did. A protective spell housing the Elden Beast to protect the Elden Ring from her enemies.
      Sorry, just a little unhinged speculation, haha. I know the Beast is supposed to be the manifestation of the Elden Ring itself, but who knows how those celestial beings actually work.

    The scene of the bodies and the golden light with marika in the middle invoke this scene in berserk where Griffith's vision of a castle on the distance is shown to him by one of the god hands As he stumbles on a mountain of bodies to reach it. Most don't notice you can hear the elden beast crashing infront of marika as its ost plays

      I wouldn't be so quick to ascribe that sound as the Elden Beast. The OST could merely be suggestive of godhood, not a literal meeting between Marika and the Greater Will.
      This is also George R R Martin's story, not everything is Berserk focused.

  • @ScarletEdge
    @ScarletEdge 24 дні тому +6

    I think The Crucible was just an euphemism for a mass sacrifice. Of course , if you present it from the point of view in vanilla, one can imagine that the Erdtree was something born naturally. My opinion is that Marika invaded the Land of Shadow with her soldiers, performed mass sacrifice that called the Elden Beast which granted her godhood. The piles of corpses then, with time transformed into the Erdtree proper and entire act was hidden by pulling the veil on that place and purging entirely so no one can tell the story.

    • @ScarletEdge
      @ScarletEdge 24 дні тому

      We can now see the contrast between the Erdtree and the Haligtree. Specifically, how both of these trees were grown. Marika used the blood of her victims, while Miquella used his own blood.

    FYI: Remember the true 1st Elden Lord was Plaxidusax so it stands to reason that thing from which Marika seems to be removing the strands of the Elden ring from is Presumably the "fled God" Plaxidusax was awaiting the return of when Plaxidusax retreated beyond time in Farum Azula.

    Marika is a triumphant champion calling to the Greater Will. Similar to us and Ranni, Marika had to kill the last god. She killed the Gloam-Eyed queen who was the previous god(dess) and uses the threads of grace that was implanted in her. When she is raising these thread it isn’t the rune making the “wind” it is a roar from the Greater Will! We already have seen how you have to take from the dead god’s body to create a new order so the scene of Marika is just confirming SHE did it too.

      @@MadLuigi I really wish we would get more Melina stuff but Miyazaki said the dlc wont feature base game characters directly as it is supposed to be a standalone adventure, unaffected by the state of the world in the main game. However, this cinematic is clearly taking place in the past so maybe learning about Melina's backstory, rather than directly meeting her is a loophole in that Miyazaki statement

      I mean Miyazaki is pretty hardcore Berserk fan you will find references to it in *every game he directs.*
      And every part of games he directs uses Berserk's narrative as foundation to build an compelling story.
      With Elden ring it's a little bit more obvious than other titles.
      Because it screams Berserk inspired.

    I personally think the edges of the "door" where Marika is brandishing what appears to be the Elden Ring (or perhaps pulling on a veil?) look suspiciously like the Blasphemous Blade and the way it displays the bodies of those subsumed by it. Which of course also has tie-backs to snakes, blasphemy, and fire. And therefore Messmer.

    My theory is that the Shadowlands WERE the Land Between, in the era of the Crucible. When Marika took over a new Land Between formed, casting the old into shadow. We see Marika passing bloodied bodies, those are skinned bodies of failed gods, killed by the godskin apostles, how she survived i don't know. The seduction and betrayal mmight refer to her seducing the Elden Beast as shown in the trailer and then betraying it by shattering the Elden Ring later on. The double tree is the Erdtree sapping strenght (or growing from) the Crucible Tree, so rather the Crucible did not evolve into the Erdtree, the Erdtree parasited it. This is my theory, i'm still curious what happened to the Gloom-eyed Queen.

  • @2to3whiteguys
    @2to3whiteguys 23 дні тому

    The “pile of bodies” is probably the primordial crucible, with Marika using the Elden ring to make the Erdtree. It could also be Marika sealing the land of shadow to the lands between, with those bodies being war casualties. That scene could even take place after the events of Elden Ring with Marika rebuilding the lands after our massacre.

    I believe it is the godskin swaddling cloth that Marika is reaching into. I also believe that based on the voice over and talk of seduction and betrayal that the child is none other than Melina, the child of Marika (possibly as radagon) and the gloam eyed queen. This would explain Melinas one gloam coloured eye and the fact it is for the most part sealed by the beast claw mark due to destined death being confined by Maliketh (which was not the case during the gloam eyed queens rule) that’s my thoughts anyway!

    Empailing or crucifixing someone in Elden Ring not only is a humiliation, it removes you from re-entering the life cycle of the erdtree by making it impossible for anything to teach the roots of the tree. The spirits and wraiths that hount the omen and that they use might be related.

    You want a twist, all the dream like portions are touched by death, Fia beds Godwyn, you fight his Lichdragon, everything is touched by him, somebody betrayed Miquella, somebody Golden, I feel nobody has considered Miyazaki's flair for insane twists, so what if the whole twist is Godwyn played everyone, and the disconnected realm, is like a dream come life, or death if you consider the Lichdragons dream space. It's very likely anyone could be right, but this feels so far fetched, it just got ignored, also Fia was bangin gold boy, chances are higher then a lot of other crazy ideas. Either ways this is fun. Basically what is Godwyn duped everyone, blindsided!!!!

    I wonder if the coiled spear holder is Marika, dressed in her Numen warrior attire (similar to the Black Knives), and she's partnered with Mesmer to sacrifice the Numen people and town (a la Berserk's Eclipse) to become a god. Hence why she's kneeling in despair as it's her actions that Messmer's come to cleanse the land of the beasts, omen, Numen, etc...

    We know the Gloameyed Queen had the Elden Ring before Marika, as she ruled with Destined Death, which Marika removed when she got it from her.
    And we know that her husband Placidusax was the First Elden Lord... So she was likely the first bearer of the Elden Ring.

    9:50 - That is probably the Miquellan Knight. We acquire the Miquellan Knight Sword which tells us A) the Miquellan Knight sword (and presumably armor) are modelled after the Carian Knight versions. This NPC is wearing equipment very similar in design to the Carian Knights, and B) The sword has no owner, and why that is has yet to be explained. Given the female voice actor, she is probably female OR a young boy. If he is a young boy, it could simply be that he had not properly ascended to knight-hood and thus did not acquire their blade. He or She might have stolen the armor set from Elphael and snuck out in order to search for Miquella after Mohg's intrusion came to light.
    As for the rest of the trailer, Marika seems to have sacrificed an entire civilization in a deceptive and cruel manner in order to gain favor from the Elden Beast. She stands in a gateway made by many sacrifices that might have opened a domain to the Elden Beast/Ring (this might be where the tree was sprouted). Considering the golden strands and her pose would make up the shape of her Great Rune, she might have created it with this "ritual/sacrifice" in order to attain immortality or house the Elden Ring within herself and become God.
    Messmer's Purge is occurring within the Land of Shadow. As for when this is happening, I would suspect AFTER Godfrey and the Tarnished were already banished from the Lands Between and Radagon became Elden Lord. It's currently assumed Messmer is child of Marika and Radagon because of his red hair, so it might have been Radagon's influence that resulted in the Crucible being despised by the GO. Messmer was placed in the Land of Shadow to enforce Marika's new ideals because of Radagon, i believe. This is entirely theoretical and has no backing. It's hard to determine when this happened.
    Miquella was probably disturbed by Mohg removing him from the Haligtree. While he doesn't need his body, he was probably expecting Malenia to return and join him in the Land of Shadow after Radahn's hold over the stars was dealt with. Since none of that happened, he went to sleep and used his St. Trina persona to guide others to him, hence why a bunch of Albinauric appeared in Mohgwyn Palace.

    This army taking the Crucible moniker would parallel real world batallions or divisions. They wouldn't be Crucible-aligned, they'd be the ones that were dispatched to purge the Crucible-centered culture.
    The name Crucible would refer to where the knight takes his fame from.

    I think the picture of the “lord” and the pregnant women are the dynast from the statues in uhl palace and if she is the gloom eyed queen I think Marika seduced him to get close enough to kill her and or take her power as the reigning god of the age. I think when Marika did this or maybe after by purging the land of shadow I think she threw the natural order/cycle of things out of balance. Enya says “Marika plucked the rune of death upon the orders creation.” I think by removing death and making herself and the demigods “eternal” she fucked up the balance like Gwyn from Dark Souls. I also think Mesmer could be the bastard child of Marika and the Lord/Dynast. I’m probably off on a lot of this. But so far this is where my head space is at.

    I know we have all tried to place Messmer’s birth and parentage in the timeline and make it fit, but it just occurred to me- why? Why does he need to be a child of Marika? Why can’t he be a husband? Marika has a history of putting her husbands away… this would explain the betrayal, seduction, and affair we hear. And I know Messmer refers to her as Mother, but it would not be amiss for any religion, cult, zealot, fanatic, or even royalty to want to be referred to as Mother. We have many modern day examples (Queen Elizabeth) where a population referred to her as queen mother or mum. And works of fiction, like a song of ice and fire, where the populace called Khaleesi “Meesa“ or Mother. Religions refer to their gods or goddesses in maternal and paternal ways. So again, I ask… what if Messmer was her first husband and waged this war for her. Then she betrayed and hid him away? Even would explain when Messmer taunts “wouldst thou lordship sanction in one so bereft of light?” as more derogatory and exasperated. Like “really? You left me and this is who is your consort?”

    is the character holding the fibers over their head Radagon becoming Merika because, as Tarnished Archeologist pointed out, the God of Age is linked to births and therefore most likely need be female.
    Maybe, as Radagon used the Elden Ring to become the God of the Age, he was transformed into Merika because the God of the Age needs to be female.
    Did Radagon seduce the Glom Eyed Queen?!

      Having a more intertwined Meradagon wouldnt be too surprising here. But I dont think this speculation can be answered by trailer analysis

    Radagon seduced the gloam eyed queen, stealing the power of grace, becoming Marika and summoning the elden beast through directly communing with the greater will using those strings. The environemnt theyre in gives off formless mother vibes, maybe they utilized or convened with the formless mother but Marika betrayed her as well. All of this, Miquella discovered and is trying to recreate with Mog and the cacoon, plus the way he tried to feed his own erd tree. Similair to what we are seeing Marika doing in the new trailer... Just a theory ofc

      I would be about killing them as well, and I guess Miquella would have a special grudge on the rot god. One can hope but I wont expect it

    From is famous for their birth themes imagery throughout their games. To that end the starting scene of this trailer is filled to the brim with themes of birth. Indeed the player comes out of a “gap” as if it’s given birth into the game through similar shaped gaps in the previous Dark Souls games. In conclusion what I’m seeing here is a similar thing so to me the human lined walls look very much like the inside of a vagina, and the gap…well it’s gap that a new order it’s birthed through
