I just added this to my Ryobi tool set in July 2021. It worked really well in the Georgia USA Clay. I am super impressed how well this light weight edger performs.
Thanks guys! My wife just got one and I got to go set it up. I have about 15 Ryobi tools now and they all been good. I use the garden tools a lot. Love the area light when the power goes out and when I go camping. The inflator I carry in my car.
I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.
Good job Fellas especially for a 1st time user. These stick edgers can be a little bit tricky if you've not used one before. Good demo all 'round though and thanks for the video. Cheers from Brisbane Australia.
Great video and instructions, guys. Canada here and coming out of winter, and my brother gave me his edger. First time using it wasn't sure about setting on a first cut but this vid helps. Thanks!
I have a Ryobi Curb Runner 2017 edger 240v corded unit which has a very similar head and wheel arrangement. It performs extremely well but I had some difficulty getting new blades for it. I've done some chasing around and found the blade you have on the new unit fits on the old head and works well. Since I'm getting older the chasing around for leads, etc and lugging them from shed to yard and back is a bit of a pain so I chased up both Ryobi and also a guy at the local Bunnings I know to find out why they never have it listed in stock. His answer was...easy peazy . He gets the new models in and they disappear almost within hours of entering the store. He is not full of it. .. He hasn't steered me wrong so far so I'm going to get the 18v version as my recent 18v purchases of other yard tools have all had very good results. I bought an 18v whipper for my daughters (much lighter build than I) and they love the fact that the units work well, no fuel issues , don't weigh a ton and are easy to use which are all very good features. The 18v whipper I first bought is great so I felt it would be viable for them...a great present well received, good reports from them as well.
I got one of these for Father’s Day a couple years ago. I used it about 5 times since then and this summer the motor started smoking and stopped working. I’ve had good luck with my other Roybi tools, but this one didn’t last very long.
@@OmniGarage it was a couple years old and they only warranty for 90 days after purchase. So I’m out of luck. I hope you all have better luck with your edgers.
Tim from Canada this is exactly what I’m looking for ..Suggestions for you if you were going to use more than one outdoor tool..bIt is best to havet It is best to have more than one battery from my experience the blower sucks up the battery power if you’re going to have to do it your edger use one battery, your blower use another battery,Your weedeater use another battery if you were going to use the same battery for all three were all to you were going to run out of juice fast just my experience I have the weedeater and the blower looking to get edger next great video
11.17... the two houses across the road... I need to know how often they maintain their lawns and if they aerate, overseed etc And how often they mow 👌
Nice review - Thanks I want to buy one of these, but a bit skeptical assuming that blade might damage my patio slabs . Please let me know if that might be the case .
If the blade becomes perpendicular to the slab then it can take a nick out of concrete. You need to maintain being parallel in between the grass and the slab.
Great video guys. Just unboxed one of these this afternoon. Had no idea what I was doing, no idea what level (1-4) to use, saw sparks as the blade hit the concrete. My lawns are a bit higher than footpath plus have creeping kykoia grass and I need to be careful of boundary wire for robot mower. Feel more confident now after watching your video and have now subscribed.
Excellent video but the sound of the demonstrator is extremely low even with volume is on high. Sound of edger and blower however is good. Is it possible to adjust the voice volume?
@@OmniGarage Sounds awfully loud.....you really should wear ear protection. I never thought about it when I was your age .I'm older now and wish I did !!!
Thanks for this video. I have been thinking of getting one of these but wasn’t sure how easy it would be to use. After watching this I think it will be perfect for what I need :)
Dude, I was feeling so anxious about your safety right through the video. A few examples here on what not to do but of paramount importance is some suitable eye and leg skin protection for both of you. I’ve seen enough penetrating injuries occur with these machines to know not to be blasé about it. It’s metal on concrete at a few thousand rpm. I do respect you for having a go though, still a helpful review. Peace.
Just another "youtuber" showing us how NOT to operate a spinning power tool! Cherish and protect your eyesight, don't wait for something to happen and wish you did.
I have the same issue however it’s just right, not completely stuck. I’m unable to remove with one hand. Just grip the battery with one hand and pull/release at the same time as pushing on the machine.
No I haven't. I don't really have a wood line to try on. If the blade touches the wood it would take chunks out. The blade is strong enough to dent the concrete edge. If your careful enough and keep the blade away from the wood edge it could work.
@@OmniGarage Australia. No Bunnings store had them but when I did a direct search on Ryobi they had it in the online area. Stores had a 36V version but didnt appear to have chargers listed. I already have a number of 18v tools and are quiet happy with them

@Mathew Matters, a metal blade between the edge of the grass and concrete. Using the concrete as your guide to create a nice edge the blade skims passed the concrete. How would you use the tool?

theres something about a edger that makes the lawn so much better, i can get it pretty close with the whipper snipper but nothing like a edger
I agree. It creates a nice even cut along the edges.... Something you cannot get perfect with the 'whipper snipper.'

Does the blade spin both ways that’s what’s confusing me and my new one
No it’s one long blade. So only spins one way.
How should I clean my edger when it gets clay-gunk up in the fender? Prolly not a good idea to blast with the hose, right?
You could try once it’s dry to brush it out. Or tape off the vents to the motor and wash it out carefully with the hose.
This a British neighborhood? I used mine for the first time today. Chewed my cutter some, but effective.
We are in New Zealand
Nice video. Thanks.
Thanks!

I went with the DeWalt edger that is very similar but I have not had trouble with the battery.
Is there a petrol version? How's the petrol version compare to this?
I have a couple of 18v batteries to btw
Not sure if there is a petrol version.
have you tried it along your wood line? if so did it chew up the wood? Cheers

No 18volt versions at bunnings only 36v without chargers which are sold separately

We really like the 18V ecosystem, especially since the full power tool range comes in 18V but not in 36V. Nice to have just the one battery system.
@@OmniGarage Have just got an 18v unit yesterday using the Bunning special order system. Great piece of kit and uses the same blade as my 240v unit.
nice work

Did you find it damaged the path/patio slabs?
Nope! It does graze the edge but we’ve never noticed considerable damage.
Bro you're destroying your blade. Listen to the sound.
Can you record yourself doing some edging at a grass/concrete interface? Hopefully it’s a silent clip.
You’ll probably have to buy a new replacement blade after every 3rd time scraping it into the concrete like that but heck yeah dude 👍🏻😬
In reality, I’ve replaced the blade once since buying this tool in June 2020.
Safety goggles

Is there any grass on that lawn ? You need to be careful with all that weed. The police might come knocking.
Especially when the neighbors across the street looks like artificial turf.
You just wait for tomorrow’s Ryobi Seed Spreader video for some nice Tall Fescue...
You should blow the trimmings away from edge not back in them
Edge and weed eat, then blow clippings back into the lawn so you can mow them up.
Normal process now is the edge first, mow second, and blow last.
Does it damage the sidewalk?
Nope!
How much did u pay for this?
They’re $199 NZD for the skin-only.
$79.00 USD at Home Depot in July 2021.
The concrete is getting chipped off. I think I wil stick to my string trimmer.
Barely. Sparks mainly!
Sure it takes practices on endge
Really easy to use. It does take a few goes to get a nice groove cut into your edges, once you’ve done it a couple of times it’s super quick and easy.
It's videos like this that warrant UA-cam's dislike button counter. Please bring it back 🙏
