    I mean this is literally what trump always does and people are surprised every time. He starts with a crazy ask to get leverage and then is haggled down to some minor improvement that can be shown to the public as a win. It's not insane, it's literally just haggling.

    • @mattROKX
      @mattROKX 10 днів тому

      That's a way overly generous interpretation of Trump's decision making process. It's more like he gets held back by the more stable heads around him, the institutionalists that kept the ship running irrespective of who was in charge... all the people that have now been expelled from the Trump bubble and replaced with sycophantic loyalists Vivek) and backstabbing opportunists (Elon) among other such charmful characters in his cabinet, with over 13 billionaires....
      But! I think you're onto something about how it works! I just think you've just got the roles wrong... So I have a question, who is he haggling for? Us? The American people Or the 13 billionaires that helped get him elected, and that he has now hired to help run America for the next 4 years? Who was he haggling for when he did the tarrifs last time he was in office that resulted in us sending millions of dollars back to farmers all across America for their lost revenue due to countries no longer importing our agricultural goods, farmers who still now going into Trump's second term have still not been made whole on their lost revenue? Who was he haggling for when he made a permanent tax cut for the wealthiest Americans and gave only a small temporary tax cut to working class people?
      But like I said I think you're onto something... Let's look at the election as an example. During the election, didn't he haggle with the American voters by "starting with a crazy ask to get leverage" (egg prices will go down, gas prices will go down) only then to admit in an interview a few weeks after he won that he probably can't actually do those things he promised, thus "haggling down to some minor improvement"? But the problem is the last part. It's not the public who sees this as a win. Well, it'd be the egg companies and gas companies who will see that as a win. I'd argue your theory actually makes sense if you think of it like this. He was haggling with the American people on behalf of the corporations that support him, and we're the ones getting haggled down (lied to and cheated) so he can show it to his billionaire buddies (i.e .the American oligarchy) as a win.

      You know what? You're right about his strategy, but you're wrong about the who is who.
      The people he haggled with were the American voters, and he started with his "big offer" of bringing down the prices of eggs and gas and has now haggled us down by admitting that he can't do much to change the prices of goods. The people that are seeing this as an improvement are not the public but the oligarchs that benefit from exorbitant prices, who own the massive agricultural conglomerates and most of the rest of our economy... 13 of whom he has directly appointed to cabinet positions to run the government.

    A Panamenian here, the Panama Canal got an ampliation and upgrades some years ago, it was a masive project done by Panamá, also and more important, when USA owned the Canal there was a big piece of the territory where no panamenian could enter, back then, it was so insane some students enter the territory to put a Panamá flag and they got killed, that was the event that proceded the change in the ownership to Panamá.

    The canal was expanded by the Panamanians in 2016. It had problems with the water levels due to a specialy harsh drought. That was the reason for the longer that usual waiting lines. And we are carbon negative. So not pointing any fingers, but climate change is definatelly not our fault. Nevertheless, there has being a strong anglocentered publicitary campaing against the image of the panamanian administration of the canal. So some how the cause of the problem finds a way to blame us. In fact you seem under the impresion that the crisis is still in effect. That is because while there were a lot of attention placed on the drought-caused lowering in canal crossings per day, there was pretty much none placed on the fact that the drought is over sinces months ago and the lakes are at capacity. 😅

Panama as a country expends huge amounts of its fresh water that could be used for drinking and other needs on every transit that makes it possible for world commerece to happen as easely as it does now. World is not fair - it is what it is but not all the people fully understands how it functions and what Trump can do, does not equate that other equally dumb people can do as well as they are not given representation what Trump has.

      "UK the main loser" idk man, Germany lost significantly more. I'd argue that the USSR is the main loser. Even in the modern-day the echo caused by operation barbarossa is felt.

    • @ewfse364u35jh
      @ewfse364u35jh 9 днів тому

      @@Leecostomo UK lost colonies and ceased to exist as British Empire - and it had the largest market all closed for others and USA gained access to all that after WW2. These are not even my thought - it is a known fact, that UK was the biggest loser of all the participants in WW2. Yes, they did not lost that many people compared to Soviet losses, but apart from human lives they lost everything.
      Soviet Union unfortunatelly was not a loser - it gained new slaves and new territories, though Stalin was clearly preparing to a war to get significantly more(whole Europe) - than they gained, but it was not a loss from our POV.
      Though, If you are refering that Soviet Union lost soldiers, then many of them were not Soviet in the first place - my grandfather was conscripted regardless what he would have thought about Soviet rights to conscript colonized people, so any loss in that case would have not been Soviet loss in the first place. Also, according to the Soviet rate of loss of soldiers during the war they still did very fine, but what you are hearing and parroting about "lost lives of Soviet soldiers liberating people from Nazis and all the terrible future" is a pure propaganda. Any liberator that does not leave after liberating becomes oppressing nazis themselves. I know it is magic, but those are the rules.

    • @Leecostomo
      @Leecostomo 9 днів тому +1

      @ewfse364u35jh Yeah you're proabably right about UK being the greatest loser post-war, although they are still reaping benefits from from once being a colonial power (english being a global language, thus the 3rd world brain drain favours them and the US. Plus the way they built the economies of their colonies means that they have a bad time as independent nations, which means countries like the UK can now establish favourable trade deals with former colonies, like Cameroon and Ghana. And with former-colonies that are now nations with developed economies like Australia and New Zealand they can establish trade deals because of the good relations with them.)
      Also when I mention the USSR, I'm talking about the fact that USSR-participation in WW2 wasnt beneficial to Russia (and other soviet states) as a country in the modern day. The demografic impact can still be felt today. I do not see the USSR as a "liberational force" in the war, but the war was still fought in the eastern front with soviet blood. Most sources im looking at rn say 8.7 million soldiers conscripted by the soviet union died (a majority of them proabably russian, considering that it was the predominant ethnic group in the USSR, although maybe a larger percentage of other ethnicities might have been conscripted (especially since I imagine the average age of a siberian or an asian from central asia would proabably be lower considering those areas were less developed).

    I don’t think you have mentioned that soft power also has downsides when overused that are just as bad, give or take better or worse, as overusing hard power. And that’s why Trump does what he does. When you overuse soft power your “allies” will eventually see it as natural and exploit you. And we have been exploited so much for so long many of us could care less about the rest of the world’s opinion. For many you all had your chance while we were playing nice. Playing nice didn’t work and you took advantage. Trump is simply saying no more playing nice, and if the world doesn’t like it they can be reminded why we are considered the most powerful nation on the planet.

    The canal is expensive, and the US is not lead by a single person. The president can be influential but a large number of people working together try hard and make very informative collections of information that generally make it clear that there is usually only one reasonable course of action for most geo-political situations, and in this case I am confident that although the US is interested in projecting influence in the region it also benefits from a stable Panama and a stable Panama needs to be able to charge adequately at the Canal to generate the revenue it requires to maintain the canal and it's own stability. Therefore it is actually in the interests of the US for Panama to be as prosperous as possible given the other geo-politics of the region, namely cartel influence and the general threat of cartel war. Naturally at all times industry will try and get the best price out of the canal but I do not think that the US will project military might to capture the canal unless the region becomes hostile enough to present an existential threat.

    Brother, we own the of Panama canal for the longest time, because we built the thing.
    And they got it back pretty much out of just a generous lease.
    And with the idea of building a new Panama through either Mexico or one of their other neighbors to increase the trade route, and because it's becoming A bit of a problem for even the local government to handle both in maintenance and because they've had to flood lakes, which reduces panamas overall size for food and housing in industrial locations. It's probably for the best that Panama. At least gives some control back to the United States. Because they clearly can't handle
    It, and it's also pretty much the only thing that's holding the country together. It makes up like ninety percent of their economy

    • @elbryanto

    • @DominicPayne-q2r
      @DominicPayne-q2r 9 днів тому

      @elbryanto you're talking about the Panama now, correct? Yeah, I mean, just rip it down. If they're gonna continue to rip us off, they can't maintain the structure, and they're more than willing to flood most of their country, because they're economy is a monolith economy and basically relies on it solely. I swear if they didn't have it, they'd turn into third world country instantly.
      And the US isn't at war at the moment, and we really should start throwing our weight. Around again, especially within the north and south american area, if we want to get the economy back to a stable place

When the japanese took over, just f******, fill it with oil and and make the entire canals, structural integrity, which is already crumbling break and then leave and let them deal with the aftermath. We'll just take one through Mexico instead, or what are their other neighbors? Both of which are viable and already looked at options
