I’m 73 and shoot a factory front bead only in a Winchester 20 gauge pump with number 9 TSS.
I don’t mind red dots but I prefer iron sights. I been using the truglo front and rear fiber optic rifle sights.
I’ve used a Simmons Pro Diamond shotgun scope for years. Had trigger jobs done on two different shotguns. It does make a difference. Don’t let people call you a sissy for lightening the trigger it does definitely make a difference!
If you can’t see well enough then use a scope. Negatives of a scope- It can get out of adjustment, it adds weight to the gun, in thick cover it gets hung up on limbs ect., hard to shoot if turkey starts running or flying ! I have a friend that hunted Kansas one year and had 6 misses because his scope was off. Most people get their chokes too tight, especially with TSS. 12:20
Why would you shoot a running turkey ? If he’s flying or running let him go you didn’t win the game , your just shooting turkeys .
I’ve never had an issue with my scope hanging up in the brush.
I’ve used beads, red dots and scopes. Pros and cons to all three and personal preference. I would hunt with either
And I'll stick with my bow haha
Keep the Content coming!
Use tri viz sights...one triangular fiber optic in front...two small horizontal triangles in rear...all green...center the turkey head ...
Game over...tried red dots and other setups..works well
Great tips. I bought the Konus 1 5 32 with that diamond after seeing your video last year. I love it. Really helped me get my loads better. Thanks for all you do Matt
I always get my forcing cones lengthened also. It helps with recoil and sometimes makes a lot better patterns also. I also get the stock cut to fit me. When I get a shotgun I will usually not trade it in. I also only use 3” shells which gun I use depends on what choke tube and ammo.
Great video and content as always!
I've use a red dot on a savage stevens 20 gauge, & a scope is mounted on my old
Remington 870 12 ga
Love them both.
Hey Dale how many times that gobbler circles around us, & he comes on our opposite gun side. How about showing a video of how you can shoot accurately from that side? Something to think about that's all.
Haven't seen anyone doing videos on it.
H
Just started using a 20ga love it!
Good luck this season Bro Matt, This been my best year got 3 up but missed one because I never patterned my gun at close range and come to find it is bout 5in high. Still got till may the 8th but I usually just call 1 maybe 2 a year up and by using your advice with my experience I got 3 up in 2 weekends of hunting
I use full choke, and I use Magnum blend, heavy shot, no scope, Remington 870 super meg camo with 21 inch barrel
0:06 Just the opposite here. I had a scope and went to a fast fire red dot. I found the scope didn't work well for me in low light conditions (early morning).
Just picked my son up the 3020 in bottomland and picked up a compact stock. Really love the gun. I have a 3500 really making me want the 20 after handling his. Also the limbsaver butt pad is a game changer and I recommend taking the screw out on the extended bolt release paddle and putting blue locktight on it. Recommend the champion easy hit sight. Have them on all my guns. Factory stoeger bead is way to big.
M Carbo makes drop in trigger spring. Works great. When are you going to do some hunting with the m3500 turkey gun?
Doing a trigger job does help with flinching I've got mine set a 3.5lbs
Tried a red dot, it's was ok, and a bead with "old eyes" is just out for me . After my scope "cut" me several times, changed scopes, to more eye relief problem solved. 2 of my three Turkey guns were modified by Gun smith on the trigger. My Mossberg 940 Turkey Pro has an Awsome trigger.
First thing I did was drop in a Timney trigger. What a difference. An optic is in the near future.
Timney is the absolute best period.
I went back to a scope this year
Holosun is a great red dot
Awesome Video Dale. Can you please share some information on how to locate more Turkeys 🦃. I live in Louisiana now and The Turkey 🦃 Population is HORRIBLE here. I’ve been Turkey hunting now for about 7-8 years and I’ve only taken 2 Turkey, 1 in Texas and 1 in Missouri. I’ve only come close a couple of times here in Louisiana.
Sounds like ga 😆 it's rough here even for the good turkey hunters our population is really low as well
@@brandonstrickland1685
Yall have LOTS more Turkey 🦃 than Louisiana, Turkey 🦃 population here is maybe 50,000 birds. Georgia has approximately 250,000 - 300,000 Birds. Honestly they should close Louisiana Turkey Season.
Which slate or slates do you recommend? I just got into Turkey hunting last year. Also where can I find that new mouth call you showed this year (you blow into it and has rubber on one end)
I want to add a scope to my old Winchester 1300. Mainly because the trigger is so darn heavy and with my aging eyes. It would help me stay on target through the trigger pull. I don’t think anything can be done on that model to lighten it.
Update: Scope, rings, and base are on the way! 😂
What choke do you use on your Stoeger?
Matt hey 👋
Matt do you do any calling when you have several hens in front of you? I just sit quiet and wait for the gobbler.
I don't know what Matt does, but last week, I just had to Yap, cut, whine, purr, etc.and basically throw a fit, at a Boss hen, that was coming in from one side up the hill ,while I had 2 Strutters and a subordinate hen sneaking up the other side. If I didn't get her attention, and piss her off, she would have continued right passed me to them, instead of keeping her in front of me, until the first Tom gave me a clear shot at 25 yards. That Big 1-1/2" Cut N.A.P Gobbler Getter Broadhead with a stopper behind it, put him down in 15 yards ! I guess every situation is different, you just gotta play it by ear.
Yea them 31/2 loads aint no joke slung me on my back looking up at the sky with both feet over my head literally head over heels from that dang cannon almost dislocated my sholder 😆 🤣
No. It didn’t. Stop it.
@spuds8896 yes it did hell I'm only 140 lbs most my life ain't never been able to get over a 125 lbs but yea knocked me on my back
@@brandonstrickland1685 stop it.
With your scope being mounted on the receiver, do you need to re zero everything when you take the barrel off?
OMG......🤦🤦
@markhamblin8195 OMG what?
1187?
Don’t pull a gun up in the state of Tennessee if the game isn’t within range.Never point your gun at anything until you are ready to shoot. You may get a pretty ticket, and possibly lose your gun(s), vehicle, and hunting and fishing and trapping license for at least a year.
