- I am here to give you an update on these three Japanese Black Pine, which you have seen a few times before! We'll work on the redesign, pruning, and wiring of each tree. They are each of different ages so you can follow along no matter where you are in your bonsai journey.

this episode seemed to be the most informative for me at this point of my learning.
i like the white lined drawing to help me visualize the concept of your design. when you say, "Going Like This, Then Going Like That", it can be hard to visualize!😉

Begin with the 3nd in mind...the outline provides a guide for you to work towards...for branches to grow to fill the blank spot.

Also: slightly off topic but your place must be very peaceful and serene. I hear birds in the background and wonder what kind of birds you have there.

Most of what I learn from this you goes into my garden trees, and I’m staring to dabble in potted plants. But don’t sell your self short, you’re teaching us.

Brutal is the right expression to use, but if it gets you where you want to be. It is not l deal to work on the roots at this time but I know you know what your doing, it will good to see the progression the next time you work on it.

I love how excited you got with find that nebari. It is an amazing tree, for sure! Do you show your trees? I love all the pads you have planned for the 3rd tree. I really loved your doodles over the trees. That really helped to see your ideas. I just bought this week quite a few small trees and I should get the first of 2 azaleas today. I also ordered a Procumbens Nana, a Cotoneaster, and a kishu juniper, and 2 white pine seedlings. I tried growing a few different trees from seed but I am not having luck here. I have grow lights and a heat mat but the seeds are not for me. So I bought a few small plants. I can not afford the large specimens right now. But my 35 year old son has told me he is interested in bonsai as well, so maybe he and I could go on a yamadori hunt some day. 20 years ago I would have gone on my own, but this 61 year old lady is not about to go dig up trees now with my bad knees and back. But we will see. Now I can't wait to see how yours trees progress in 3 months!! Thanks for the update.
Nothing is more enjoyable than to do a project with your children. Enjoy. Bonsai material does not have to be expensive.

I learned long time ago to step over negative people and their negative perceptions. I find some people lack the imagination and the visualization so they can’t see your concept but they can complain about it. That part of our society, that why I don’t put weight on what they say, I will listen to them if they are reasonable but you have been doing Bonsai for over a half a century or maybe a century so you have all that knowledge. 😅
I would think based on your many years of experience you should know what you are doing. You have the willingness to try something new and learning from your mistakes which is what life journey is all about, and not keep repeating your mistakes like most negative people do.
If you going to take up Bonsai as a hobby, it going to take time and patience, it is not instant ratification hobby, it might take a few years to see if you make the right decision. You have to wait and watch your living creations develop.
My problem is that I started this hobby when I am too old to see my tree develop. But at least I can start develop my tree in the right direction and hopefully have someone take over it for me when I’m gone.
I’ve learn so much about Bonsai from you, I can visualize your line of reasons on why you decided to do the things you do.
Maybe it because I too can visualize an image in my head and no I not smoking weed although in California it is legal to smoke.

Good for you. I’m in my 70’s so I experience life a little different than today generation. Try telling them don’t take things too serious. Just go with the flow and don’t let things bother you. Try teaching them about how important is it to not let things bother you. You will have a more happy life. Take care.

I’m having problems with my maple trees the leaves are turning brown I live in west Texas it’s been high 90’s I feel like I’m watering them a lot couple 2 or 3 times a day I just don’t know what I’m doing wrong
I suspect you are talking about a maple bonsai, not a maple in the ground.
Soak you r bonsai by putting the pot in a tub; Bonsai pot is shallow, can easily dry out. Then water just runs out when you water. Consider having a tb to sak the bonsai by watering a little above the bottom of the pot.
Is it not harmful to dig up the tree and disturb roots in the middle of growing season?
It is easier to kill a tree dugint the growing season. The trick is to balance root loss to cutting back the branches/leaves. I report my bonsai almost all year round...avoid the real hot days...
