I really got a lot from this video. I'm a beginner and I've loved pencil drawings from and early age and now I'm getting into pen also. But, I always feel like I have to do a complete and finished drawing and I really don't have the skills yet to do that. I have not done like you say and PLAY and PRACTICE in a my sketchbook and have FUN. After seeing this video that is exactly what I plan on doing. Thanks for all the excellent tutorials you have released.
seriously i'm so happy having found your channel and being able to watch your videos! i just started drawing a few month ago (mainly pencil but with aiming more for pen & ink) and a lot of the advise, especially on just experimenting, creating structure, shading and simplifying things made me loose up a lot and take the pressure of my head and get the pen more and more on the paper! ;) thanks so much for sharing your experience with all of us here. your videos are a blessing for upcoming artists! (incluing my self hahaha)
I have been wanting to get into sketching and doodling for awhile now with no motivation but your tutorial definitely helped and makes me want to go pick up a pen and start drawing right away so thank you!! :)
I'm really liking all the ink tutorials! I'm trying to get back into the habit of sketching everyday in a sketchbook and I haven't always had the best luck with pencil. I tried pen and using your tips and it's absolutely liberating and fun! I can't wait to see your tutorial on sketching figures in ink, it's something I've always had trouble with when trying to sketch people in public :)
I've got your simple guide and the accompanying workbook, and they're really well done and professional. There's still something really inspiring and encouraging about watching and listening to your videos that doesn't quite come through in the books though. I love to watch your videos to get inspired by your great sketches, and turn to the books when there's something specific I'm struggling with. Thanks for making and sharing all of your teaching.
Wow! What a difference sketching with ink makes. You are so right - when sketching with pencil I tend to want to have an erasure at hand. This is so much better. I will always have my sketchbook and pen with me now.
I really love your tutorials. They are so helpful and a good viewing length. I really liked your tips for this one; it's helpful to know the purpose of sketching and what kinds of things sketches are most useful for.
Hi, I have a question on how you build a visual library and become confident in that. I know practice is one way, is there anything else you would recommend?
Alphonso any tips on what a beginner should practice in his sketch book other than shapes? I want to give myself some mini assignments every week if possible. Other than that amazing tutorials bro!
pen strokes, basic shading, follow the how to draw complex form tutorials, and start with still life drawings of basic forms How to Draw Complex Forms Part 1 | Start with the Basics
Hi, I just begin to see your videos and I want to say your techniques are very cool. Do you have some video tips about drawing with ink pen and tracing paper???
Marcos Fernando Guillén Saravia no tracing paper my friend. I look at the image and draw it. Not though that I use construction lines and start with simple shapes
hey, just a question if you or anyone reading this knows; about how long do the micron pens last? i just got a few and im just wondering how long it'll be till i need to replace them :) p.s. cool video :D
Thanks. They last me quite a while. I'd say a couple months. But of course it depends on what youre drawing (details, size, values, etc) and how you use them
I NEVER use a pencil ONLY pen because I love learning to just go along with my mistakes and I don't care I am a terrible drawer I just enjoy this as a hobby
thanks. now I can be more free on the page. thnx for inspiring me. Pleaseeeeeee can u do a sketch book.tour of ur sketches and rough pages and doodles. please I would be so interested. I had to sub to.u. ur just an amazing drawer. please tldo a book tour
I want to do these types of exercises but I always seem to talk myself out of trying simply because I am so lousy at perspective, especially with cubed images and people....throw in fore-shortening and i'm like, HAND ME A MATCH!!!
lol...dont get discouraged or be so hard on yourself...I always say you wont know until you know...you only get better by getting better...You have to start somewhere and be patient with yourself....VERY patient :-)
Miguel Declercq Are you new to "pen & ink"? The term refers to a genre of art/drawing media that utilizes primarily ink instruments...Actually many drawing pens carry "Indian" or a similar type of ink. But I get it, you were looking for it in a traditional sense...but dont worry, the same principles apply
Okay, I get it now. I was indeed looking for pointers on how to use traditional pen nibs. I did check out some of your videos as well, though, and learnt a couple of new things along the way. Thanks.
I love your videos. But in this one , examples are awfull. A person on a level to learn from you (student) can never so easily do donald duck or even human figures. You are like: "Play around... draw a lions skul or have fun.. why not with drawing a airplane engine, you know. .just go with it"
I have both of your volumes arriving this weekend. Your videos have been very helpful, this in particular; thank you Alphonso.

Hi, I have a question on how you build a visual library and become confident in that. I know practice is one way, is there anything else you would recommend?

Hi, I just begin to see your videos and I want to say your techniques are very cool. Do you have some video tips about drawing with ink pen and tracing paper???
Marcos Fernando Guillén Saravia Thanks. Pen and ink, yes. Tracing paper, not really. You mean drawing ON tracing?
***** Yes, like the video in which u draw the portrait of a person using a ballpoint pen.
Marcos Fernando Guillén Saravia no tracing paper my friend. I look at the image and draw it. Not though that I use construction lines and start with simple shapes
Huuuuuun I like your approach to achieve one`s target , cool man
Thanks : )
Thanks for the video it was helpful
Very interesting T'habites
Thank you!
sweetcheeks20 very welcome
lol i have a sketchbook that is the same size as my hand and it’s filled with all my observations, experiments, and fails. mostly fails hahahah
John Perez and thats perfectly fine...the successes are on their way, just dont stop
This is The Best "to take a person, hold their hand and show them what to do" thing...

How do you make such thin lines with a 03?
Hekset I'm sure you can too..perhaps the camera
They looked like lines from a 005 Lol
Maybe it was the camera who knows xD
lol

+Zoya Hussain thanks much..I will
Really dislike sketching with technical pens. I prefer using dip pens and gel pens for sketching
Hey, variety is the spice of life. Use whatever instruments you're most comfortable with, once they allow you to create the work you want
I want to do these types of exercises but I always seem to talk myself out of trying simply because I am so lousy at perspective, especially with cubed images and people....throw in fore-shortening and i'm like, HAND ME A MATCH!!!

it "bugged" me out when i saw the ladybug with four legs instead of six
Lol
11:06 Is that Polnareff on drugs?
i learn best by making midtakes.. just dont ask the ex she might have a different opinion.. mistakes in ink lead to descoverying new.
It's called "Pen and ink drawing tutorials", yet he's doing all his videos with a fineliner... Hmm.
Miguel Declercq ok...and? lol
I was looking for pen and ink videos, as in: pen nibs + Indian ink. Get it? lol
