The "Youth Pledge" is a major milestone in the history of the Indonesian independence movement.
This pledge is considered a crystallization of the spirit to emphasize the ideals of the founding of the Indonesian state.
The Youth Pledge was the result of a decision from the second Youth Congress which was held for 2 days, namely on 27-28 October 1928 in Batavia (now called Jakarta).
The original text of the contents of the Youth Pledge, uses the Van Ophuijsen spelling (old spelling) - a type of spelling that was used for Malay and Indonesian during the Dutch colonial era.
This spelling is used to write Indonesian words according to the model that Dutch people understand, namely using the Latin alphabet and sounds similar to Dutch speech.
The contents of the Youth Pledge are:
6:21 1) We, sons and daughters of Indonesia, claim to share one blood, the Indonesian homeland
2) We, sons and daughters of Indonesia, claim to be one nation, the Indonesian nation
3) We, sons and daughters of Indonesia, uphold the language of unity, Indonesian
