Exhibit A: Jeremy Guy starts a UA-cam channel explicitly stating that he's only going to be working on terrain because working on mini's is hard and he's not that great of a painter. Exhibit B: This Shipwreck Revenant Jesus christ dude, this is incredible.
I forgot to mention one detail in the voice over. The coral went from vibrant to "grimy" without explanation. At some point during painting I thought it looked too bright and fun and applied a sepia wash over all the coral. While I thought the coral looked pretty good before, I think this works better with the rest of the piece. New things tried in this video: - GREEN OSL (and I've only done OSL three before on very small things) - Cotton ball seaweed (So good!) - Sculptamold (I'm in love with it) - Resin water base (I've done this effect in contained areas, but never with a "dam" and visible edge of water on finished piece) - Wave effects (First time using the Gloss Gel and the Modelling Paste) - Airbrush varnish Moral of the story? Try new things! Always! Even when (especially when) working on an off the shelf model you can implement so many techniques and try so many different things.
it's awesome how relatively simple paintjob with a little extra attention to small details can make a amazing looking piece. Great job, great inspiration
Super dope. Don’t apologize for painting minis. You can basically do whatever you want and I’ll still watch it and learn something. I think most of the viewership is probably engaged with that part of the hobby too. Anyway, this thing looks phenomenal!
I'm gobsmacked. That's probably my favourite example of object source lighting I've ever seen, very well done! The seaweed was also a brilliant touch, and worked absolutely wonderfully.
I love the seaweed technique. I will definitely add that to my toolbox of techniques! Thanks for sharing the knowledge. It would be nice to more ready made model building too.
Just got into mini painting, finished up a bugbear a few days ago using a lot of techniques you've shown. Love the hobby so far, very relaxing and therapeutic with how stressful my job has been lately. This Shipwreck Revenant will be perfect as my players are getting ready to sail the high seas, and I need something good to terrify them with. Please paint more minis on your channel, its very interesting and fun to watch!
You could airbrush some paint that glows in the dark to the lamp and the areas where the lamplight reaches! It'd look really spooky and cool. Awesome job on the assembling and painting, too. You absolutely nailed it.
Dude, I can say for damn sure... that mini would at least terrify players the first time their characters encountered one. It looks like a boss monster at least on its own. Like... straight up end of a dungeon final fight-type monster. the painted lighting on the mini really sets the tone for a good horror game too. They would definitely get spooped by it when you brought it out.
I'm watching and waiting for the star-fish to be painted in some exotic colours. I like the seaweed, it's easy to make such things look bad - yours look great.
What a great video! This is the first time I've come across one of your videos. Your voice over and instructions kept me interested all the way through.
15:09 tip: if you use your airbrush without anything in it just the air you can "push away" the waves and give it a ripple effect, it will look even more realistic. (Luke towan (youtuber) uses this technique when me makes his dioramas i really recommend his channel). The mini looks incredible tho! This is definitely one of my favorite mini's
I loved the use of the airbrush for the OSL. That just pushed it over the top for me. I've got to get me a decent airbrush. And that seaweed technique! I could rant about that for days! Well done sir!
I don't know about other people, but I'm completely fine with you adding in some mini builds and things along with your normal crafting! Anyone who disagrees in a manner which is rude: Shut up I'll fight you.
Love the mini and the base. Seaweed was dope as F%@#. Cool to see you trying your hand at OSL. It’s important for me to go back and forth between building something cool then painting minis. Both are fulfilling I think. Id say you should continue branching out into mini painting as I could tell you really enjoyed it. That’s why we do this in the first place 😉
This is maybe the best I have even seen you build. Such an amazing result with the OSL, water, corals, wood. Everything turned out so cool, and I learned a lot of new techniques!
That seaweed tip sounds awesome. I like making Warmachine/Hordes minis, in particular Cryx and Everblight factions. Well, Cryx tends to make necromantic mechs that rise up from the sea. So I'll probably use this seaweed effect a lot now.
One tip for OSL: in the vast majority of cases, the light source should be brighter than the light it is casting. So basically your lantern glow would have looked better if you had maybe mixed a bit of white into the bright yellow on the lantern itself. This helps to visually establish what is actually casting the light. Hope this helps for your future projects 😁
absolutely fantastic!!! all of the effects really elevate this piece. I think I'd have to stop and take a few minutes to sit and admire it if anything like that were on the table during a game :)
Dude!! I’m super new to the world of crafting miniatures. I cut my teeth on a tree house that I made for my sons Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous figures and fell in love with the hobby. I get much less sleep every night since I don’t settle into my basement work station until my little man is sleeping (currently going on 1am here in Philadelphia 🥴). I lack that natural artistic ability that many of you have (you’re on a different fucking planet dude, Jesus Christ haha) so I’m on here a lot educating myself. That little tidbit about using the yellow to highlight the path of the light source is something that ppl like myself would never consider. Your videos are extremely helpful and your work is phenomenal! Wanted to drop an old fashioned thank you my man! I’ll be hitting up your patreon in the am!
Late at night in the sleepy fishing village, some hear the bell ringing in the distance and know to get into their homes. That thing looks great, I like the idea of using the gel medium for a clear gloss coating over the lantern.
Hmm... Think I may try to recreate these on my Kharadron Overlords (Go for that Bioshock/20k Leagues under the Sea sort of look) Fantastic video! What was the shade you used for the cotton/seaweed, and what were you materials you used for the water?
Hey Jeremy, I'd love to see how you'd handle painting water caustics (the bright, lacey pattern that occurs when light bounces off of moving water) in an environment.
Hey I love your work it has been so inspiring to me as a DM. I have been painting all my playes characters and a ton of terrain pieces. Keep up the great work!
Woah! Thanks for the link! I am going to be painting a lot more Bones before the new kickstarter ships so seeing your process on a larger mini is very helpful.
Great, great, GREAT video! I like the risky improvisational part that should be in every single project as a fundamental part of the improving process! By the way, my favorite part was "shame! Shame! Shame!" lol
If you want less thick epoxy I find that heating the parts separatly in bowls of boiling water before mixing makes it more workable. as an added bonus if you're doing a bigger batch it mixes very easy.
Great video, i really liked seeing you try brand new techniques on many different parts of this. It's inspiring to see and provokes me to take a step out of my own comfort zone and see what i can do. Keep up the awesome work Jeremy!
Love watching videos like these. It's good to hear someone say, just try it. I'm not quite ready to try resin, epoxy and the like yet, but so many good ideas!
I ain't gonna lie, when I first saw how heavy the zenithal came out, and the OSL screen shot after you applied it I was alittle worried, but you my good man are an artist. Often times while painting I hold the mini so close that I will misjudged how much contrast is really needed to get good definition and details at play distance. My come out awesome at face level (6"- 1') but lack the "pop" at 2'-4'. That's one thing I'm trying to change. Slowly. Ha. Keep up the amazing work. I love that channel. Found it about a year to a year and half ago (somewhere around then) and itd since become one of my favorites.
I’m just happy to see you post something crafty after the last few weeks of more product and tip based videos. They aren’t bad by any means but I’ve been missing these kinds of videos cause I’m bias and they’re my favorite 😅
Dude.....the Hags Hut build video (which was a massive effort) was just TWO WEEKS ago!.....so how are you “missing these types of videos”? Tuesdays = Product vids Fridays = Build vids Yea last Friday build vid was a technique vid but it’s still crafty AND it followed one of my most involved videos to date. Don’t gimme that!
@Black Magic Craft Oh! I'm sorry. I didn't realize it was scheduled like that and I just glanced at how many videos were between then and now and assumed it was weeks between each. I didn't mean to sound ungrateful, I understand that these things take a lot of time to produce. I'm sorry if it came off as passive aggressive, that was not my intention what so ever. I actually subscribed right before the hag hut video came out after watching the entirety of your back log of builds and just assumed your channel was mostly build content because of that. I have enjoyed the miniature content as well but that is a smaller portion of the channel overall and so i was also just kinda excited to see more of that cause I like the way you narrate you content compared to other mini painters. I really didn’t realize my comment would spark such a reaction and wouldn’t have posted it if I had known you would find it annoying.
THAT LOOKS AMAZING!! I've never painted or had minis for my game before and it's a huge goal of mine to one day have a set up like yours in my shed to learn the craft, it looks very satisfying! love the idea for the lighting effect, super ominous and really makes it look cool and unique from both the back and front views. the coral is lovely!!
I'd love to see you work your way through that box of shame, perfect for trying out new things on because even if they don't always work out, it's better than them going totally unused and rejected haha
Every time you do lighting effects I'm initially like "Ah, no, come on, that looks terrible" and then by the end of it it looks fucking amazing and I end up loving the effect. Really teaches patience with a project.
Exhibit A: Jeremy
Guy starts a UA-cam channel explicitly stating that he's only going to be working on terrain because working on mini's is hard and he's not that great of a painter.
Exhibit B: This Shipwreck Revenant
Jesus christ dude, this is incredible.
Personal growth is important 😊
ja34namsf09 think of it as walking terrain” ;D
@@Xenothios lol, makes sense
When you set the mini on the shelf, the lighting effect really became evident and looked like it was actually glowing.
I'm feeling that seaweed effect. Just wist I could think of a good nautical build to use it on.
dude. I love the paint, but that base was off the chain. Well done my guy.
I forgot to mention one detail in the voice over. The coral went from vibrant to "grimy" without explanation. At some point during painting I thought it looked too bright and fun and applied a sepia wash over all the coral. why this thing looking tovart woter? is it fighting sharks or something
Awesome video🎥...fantastic paint job🎨...can't w🎱 to 👀 what is next.👍
The seaweed effect is astounding and would also work great as moss hanging from trees. :)
I loved the sea weed effect. I used this on my shambling mound and it turned out great.
As an old timey wargamer seeing reaper get a second lease on life in the rpg community makes me really happy.
it's awesome how relatively simple paintjob with a little extra attention to small details can make a amazing looking piece. Great job, great inspiration
That lighting effect is so convincing.
Super dope. Don’t apologize for painting minis. You can basically do whatever you want and I’ll still watch it and learn something. I think most of the viewership is probably engaged with that part of the hobby too.
Anyway, this thing looks phenomenal!
I wasn’t sure how I felt about the OSL until I saw it on the black background at the end, that thing straight up glows. Awesome work
I'm gobsmacked.
Your two part dark light primer is analogous to the grisaille underpainting method in oil painting used by the likes of Titian during the Renaissance
I'm so happy to have found a cheap and easy to acquire resin. I've been using this exact one for small repairs, now it's going into base work!
Just got into mini painting, finished up a bugbear a few days ago using a lot of techniques you've shown. This Shipwreck Revenant will be perfect as my players are getting ready to sail the high seas, and I need something good to terrify them with. The source lighting in this is amazing
lol "Why are you painting a mini" ? I say paint more Mini's !
You could airbrush some paint that glows in the dark to the lamp and the areas where the lamplight reaches! It'd look really spooky and cool. Awesome job on the assembling and painting, too. You absolutely nailed it.
Started watching your channel and now I'm spamming it in the car every day thanks for the inspiration, ideas and the hard work you put in bro
Amazing how you brought this piece to life. Very impressive! I'm nowhere near this good yet, but I hope to be some day!
I loved the scrap built witch hit. Have you ever built or considered building Baba Yagas Hut?
The final result is AMAZING! Great job!
This is definitely my favorite one of your miniatures yet.
Nice to see a clear example of turning something that it was already good to something even better! Congrats, love the vids, Hi from México!
That's incredible!!!! I'm seriously blown away!!!
This is inspirational and brought me out of my painting rut. Thanks, mate. Your post-model bit at the end of the video meant a lot
I gotta say. I love all the projects you do.
when that shame box has one of jeremys top ten builds it ahahah
Dude, I can say for damn sure... that mini would at least terrify players the first time their characters encountered one. It looks like a boss monster at least on its own. Like... straight up end of a dungeon final fight-type monster. the painted lighting on the mini really sets the tone for a good horror game too. Love it! Great results, and neat step by step on the process!
I'm watching and waiting for the star-fish to be painted in some exotic colours. I like the seaweed, it's easy to make such things look bad - yours look great.
Wow, that turned out FANTASTIC!
What a great video! This is the first time I've come across one of your videos. Your voice over and instructions kept me interested all the way through.

Love the seaweed effect! Totally doing that on ours.

From paper minis to zenithal priming... you've come a long way! Great fig and great job on it.
Amazing work, if I had to say anything, maybe a bit too heavy on the yellow lighting. The corals are just perfect.
This is maybe the best I have even seen you build. Such an amazing result with the OSL, water, corals, wood. Everything turned out so cool, and I learned a lot of new techniques!
WOW...EPIC MINI. You got me watching your videos since last month and now I probably going to get into this hobby.
Totally badass paint job, Jeremy! I blew my crafty budget already this month, but I am definitely getting this model!!
My partner bought this mini for a campaign and we haven't painted it yet. I learned so much from this video and I cannot wait to try them out.
I love that coral, it's so florescent looking
Love the new intro style. Your videos are getting so refined and well done. So incredible to get with you and be a part of this!
finally i come back to the model that i think was the first video of yours i saw and that has been floating around in the back of my mind for years
That seaweed tip sounds awesome. I like making Warmachine/Hordes minis, in particular Cryx and Everblight factions. Well, Cryx tends to make necromantic mechs that rise up from the sea. So I'll probably use this seaweed effect a lot now.

A break from building to do some miniature painting is nice! Awesome work!

Wowee! this was fantastic to watch. And such a great result. thank you for sharing your process !
Your videos are awesome. The common sense honesty is great.
Hey I love your work it has been so inspiring to me as a DM. I have been painting all my playes characters and a ton of terrain pieces. Keep up the great work!
I have a "Graveyard golem" from reapers also that's been sitting there for ages...When i finish painting my vampire,i will start painting it
Thanks for the bit with the waves. I've got a diorama idea that's been waiting a while now that this will help emensely with.
New to the channel, but love what you do. Definitely looking forward to new videos!
Man, amazing work as always. Will be looking g into this mini fridge myself. Always looking for that just because project.
That would make a badass aquarium decoration.
Woah! Thanks for the link! I am going to be painting a lot more Bones before the new kickstarter ships so seeing your process on a larger mini is very helpful.
The "Magic" is real... mindblowing man!
You're so unbelievably skilled. This was amazing. I've binged all of your videos.
Great, great, GREAT video! I like the risky improvisational part that should be in every single project as a fundamental part of the improving process! By the way, my favorite part was "shame! Shame! Shame!" lol
I really like the seaweed trick. Now I just wanna make something with seaweed on it to try it out.
Man, the painting came out really dope! And that base was on a new level!
Turned out terrific. And FWIW, I'm with you - I base coat all the colors and then shadow and highlight. ;)
Great job, Jeremy! Absolutely fantastic work!!
If you want less thick epoxy I find that heating the parts separatly in bowls of boiling water before mixing makes it more workable. as an added bonus if you're doing a bigger batch it mixes very easy.
Cool work. I am soooo using that seaweed idea. I bet that looks awesome in-game. A real crowd-pleaser. Keep up the good work.
Very cool video, Jeremy. Great work on that base, man.
It was nice to actualy see you painting.you should do more of that
You did a great job! That sea weed!! And the lighting effect is really nice too. Keep up the great work!
How is it that I've been subscribed since the basic dungeon tiles episode, I've never seen this amazing painting video?!?!
That is absolutely freaking awesome.
I am about to order this fig from Reaper, excellent work man!
This is amazing. I need to get this mini! Great work as always

This looks like a super fun miniature to paint, great stuff.
Great video, amazing techniques. I really appreciate the work you did here. Thank you
Mini looks great, and that base is killer. Amazing video

I’m pretty sure this video got me into miniature painting
This thing is SUPER COOL
That's so sick!!! Love it man great job!!
Great looking mini! Enjoyed the light effect with the air brush, it gave me the desire to try it. Also, the oatmeal stout is a great drink too... LOL
I could of sworn you said you wasnt a mini painter? Could of fooled me. Outstanding paint job and love the lighting.
Every time you do lighting effects I'm initially like "Ah, no, come on, that looks terrible" and then by the end of it it looks fucking amazing and I end up loving the effect. Really teaches patience with a project.
