Whizzer front seat on-ride 5K POV @60fps Six Flags Great America

- Опубліковано 5 жов 2024
- This Schwarzkopf Speed Racer/Extended Jumbo Jet opened in 1976 and features the trademark Jet Star electric spiral lift. It is one of only two still in operation, the other being Broca at Parque Nacional Del Café in Colombia. An identical coaster opened at California's Great America a couple months earlier, but it closed in 1988.
Six Flags Great America is located north of Chicago in Gurnee, Illinois.

I'm glad coasters like this still exist
a classic coaster you have to experience in person
It's weak. Good for kids & newbies.
@@majorDT who cares about it being weak its a classic coaster that everyone loves
First roller coaster I ever went on, almost 30 years ago 😅😅
Same man
Same, but 40!! 😮 Madness
same
Damn you’re old
Same but 2
They said “Save the Whizzer” so Sockwave became chopped liver.
So simple but still my favorite ride at Great America.
Probably would have been mine too if it was still here at the California park
If I remember correctly Shockwave was removed before "save the whizzer" ever had to be by fans. I remember from going there a lot growing up. I remember when they were taking down Shockwave, as well as most of the changes to the park
My mother worked there when the park first opened, so I know it's history well
Shockwave was removed due to it causing bodily distress which led to minor injuries and complaints, usually being how it'd give you a whiplash.
Due to this the ride was removed
Whizzer was considered for removal because it was old. Fans en mass said no, so they stopped
I know what you meant, but Sockwave sounds kicka**
This coaster sucks though
@@Joel38672 no it doesn't it's definitely one-of-a-kind and you got to love the Landscaping it's a good family coaster
This coaster is a gem and a historic icon. it also has way more kick than you're expecting around that first turn. So glad this ride was preserved.
Yeah that first turn gets ya but then it's soooooooo much fun!!
Such a great classic. First ride with my kids as well 🤙❤
The coaster layout is horrible
We had one at Six Flags Over Texas, called Big Bend. Fun back in the day.
That's the one I grew up riding.
Wish Over Texas still had Big Bend so that it would've had a good line up coasters!
@@JohnFleming-sw7hn One thing i didn't like about the Big Bend... those bunny hops in the middle of the ride did NOT belong there. For that type of track, sweeping curves or hills would have been better.
My first roller coaster. Waiting in line felt l was on death row. I was terrified.
This ride is a lot more fun than the video makes it appear.
I'll take your word for it, the video makes it look like a snoozer
@@markgrizI’ve been on it, the layout is horrible, it has decent speed, nothing too crazy but they could’ve added some decent airtime. But instead there is absolutely no forces during the ride. They didn’t even add any scenery or whippy turns, such a horrible coaster, the commentor is biased or blinded by nostalgia, the coaster is shit.
You are either biased or blinded by nostalgia, the layout has absolutely nothing good, there isn’t even good scenery, theming or anything.
@@Joel38672 Not biased -- hardly my favorite coaster in the park. But it's great as a family-friendly coaster with some nice downward Gs along the way.
@@PooDollar100this pulls no G’s at all, and this has a boring layout even for a family coaster.
I rode this two days ago and let me just say it's still a great classic. This coaster was a big part of my childhood, too, and its also nice to see that its an official Ace Coaster Landmark now.
Still 1 of my all-time favorite coasters! It has to ridden with a full train of people to truly experience it.
This layout is horrible, one of the worst made roller coasters ever, absolutely no thought put into it, your either blinded by nostalgia or you’ve ridden barley any coasters
@Joel38672 while I don't claim to be a coaster expert, I've ridden on coasters in New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, California and New Mexico. Myself and many other folks enjoy riding on the Whizzer; isn't that the whole point of a coaster? Who cares if it has enough lift time or how steep the drop is? If people still enjoy riding it, it's doing its job.
@@Heritage367this coaster sucks though, yes it’s fun, but so is every ride at theme parks. Compared to other roller coasters this is shit tier. I’m not saying it needs to make me gray out or go 80kph but they should add some more quick turns maybe or some airtime or head choppers to make it interesting, and make the pacing better.
@@Joel38672 You literally said in your comment that it is fun. If it's fun then why is it "shit"? We're coaster enthusiasts so we like intensity but really all a coaster is for is fun, so if it is why should they change it?
Will we be getting an American Eagle POV too? There isnt really any great POVs of it anywhere online so ive always wanted CF to film a mounted POV on it
East Coaster just posted a pov for the American Eagle today.
I hear the public begged this not to be torn down, and they tore down shockwave instead
Yep, and we're all the better for it. Shockwave was a big deal when it first opened, but it didn't stand the test of time as well as Whizzer has.
They should tear it down, there’s nothing good about the coaster, it has decent speed, but they chose to not add any good elements, it’s so boring
@@Mr._Kagle Shockwave was the first ever "high thrills" roller coaster i ever had the guts to go on, but honestly I remember barely anything from it so i don't consider it a huge loss. Plus Superman is a great coaster to have in its place
@@Joel38672 Whizzer is a family coaster; it's not supposed to have huge elements. And while I totally dismissed it as a kid for not having a big first drop, it's a lot of fun for what it is.
@@Joel38672bro it's an awesome family coaster it's not meant to be the most intense ride
We went on this coaster today i don't usually like roller coasters but i couldn't believe how fun this was!! Can't wait to go back one day and go on it again!
A classic Schwarzkopf!
I remember this at the California G.A., which was Paramount's or Marriott's (forgot when they did the name change) this was by far my favorite coaster, wasn't too intense, had some good speed (at least it felt like it at the time), no frills seating/restraints (cushy seat with a seat belt), the cork screw lift hill was quite unique, no inversions necessary, just a fun ride. Was quite sad when it left. They still have the Demon and all it's brain rattling power though!
I LOVE this ride, probably always will. I used to really love how this ride was like cruisin/zipping through the woods, but every year it seems like they take out more and more of the trees surrounding it. Same like with Iron Dragon at Cedar Point.. Look up the original POV of that vs now and Whizzer was the same way in the 70s-early 90s.
We had a coaster at Six Flags Over Texas called the Big Bend. It was very similar to this, but it had two spiral lift hills and the course was a lot different. It was removed because the
throughput was too low.
Yes, that was my first roller coaster. I LOVED the cars - rocket-shaped hood, single-file seating, handlebars on the OUTSIDE, and bright red seats. ❤
So they removed it cause of maintenance wise?
I first played roller coaster tycoon 2 back around 2002ish when it came out that my grandma and grandpa bought played together!
I experienced the spiral coaster built quite a few and found out about this Great America Whizzer!
my home ride!! SO much fun to operate.
One great thing about this one is the height requirement is only 36”. My 3-year-old loved it.
Love this coaster!
That’s cause you haven’t ridden any other good coasters, the layout is extremely boring, and the coaster is.
@@Joel38672 LOL, I can assure you I've ridden some of the best coasters in the world and I still love Whizzer.
@@mattman237that’s because you love every roller coaster, which makes sense cause roller coasters are fun, but compared to other coasters, this is really boring
@@Joel38672 It is really boring to you. It is not boring to me.
@@mattman237compared to other roller coasters it’s boring
I first rode that coaster in 1989, it was my first coaster ride age 14.
This was the very first roller coaster I went on at Six flags got on
Crazy to think this is the only one still operating in the US
My favorite roller coaster
All this and the demon needs are some renovations to make them smoother rides, they are both fantastic coasters that everyone deserves to enjoy, but right now they are both really painful experiences
Very original layout.
Love when the undercarriage lift motors turn on and off.
Seriously i was here at 1130am i got on it before max force and i was actually surprised for a starter coaster
This is my home park and I still haven’t rode this ride
Makes me miss the OG Zambezi Zinger at Worlds of Fun in KC.
Gorgeous
Classic❤
FUN WHIZZER ROLLER COASTER SEAT ON RIDE AT SIX FLAGS GREAT AMERICA !!!!
I've always wondered how these coasters get up the spiral. It defiantly sounds like there's some sort of motor (on the car maybe? IDK)
It is. I believe all the undercarriages of the trains has motors on it to power through the lift hill.
Not scary at all but its really fun and gives a great view
I can't believe they tried to get rid of it.
why is it whenever I visit that it’s almost always out of order
Why did they take out all those trees ?! 😣
OMG do we got SFGAm POV's on the way?
Only Whizzer for now. Scott is in Europe, but will be returning to film at SFGAmerica.
@@coasterforce I'll take what I can get lol, thanks for the great work, looking forward to the rest!
I went on whizzer it is so funnnn
craaaaazy
someone didn't check the slang definition of "whiz" before naming this ride.... lmao
Would love to see the theming BonBon-Land would do to a coaster with this name. Of course, being in 'murica, it would never happen.
W
Looks a bit rusty
it's ancient and could definitely use some TLC. it's been at the park since Opening Day back in 1976. I think only the Sky Trek Tower and Demon are still around from that too
@@skippythealien9627what does tlc mean?
@@ILOVEAMERICANEAGLE tender loving care
it's basically just slang for it needs a lot of maintenance and repainting lmao
@@skippythealien9627uhm, since when was 1976 ancient? My mom was alive at that time!
Boring out dated.
I concur
I bet you are the type who thinks Pantheon is the best coaster ever made or a Freefly like The Joker is a good ride.
It's a family coaster
@@nathanlopez5667they should at least add some airtime or better turns. Family coasters are still fun, this coaster is so boring it could be considered a kiddy coaster.
@@Sakura_Matouthose rides are way better, was that supposed to be an insult, those are amazing coasters. You’re the type of person who gets scared of a ride like hagrids. The coaster in the video is horrible, nothing good about it.
Tare it down and replace it with a new coaster.
That will never happen. And i'm glad
@@nathanlopez5667why? Because you’re blinded by nostalgia, the coaster is so boring
You're boring get out of here
This has possibly the worst layout I have ever seen on a roller coaster, it’s like they tried to make it as boring as possible, with the speed they could’ve added some good elements but they chose to make the layout horrible. Such a shit coaster.
I’m not asking for it to be intense but they have added more airtime or quicker transitions
I like whizzer
idk it's the most beloved coaster at the park, shows a ride doesn't have to be intense to be fun. I think the thing that makes this ride is the bobsled style trains and the fact there's no restraints at all. Sure the drops are shallow and stuff, but it's a very fun and classic ride that can't be replaced. In fact, it's so beloved that when Six Flags Great America wanted to replace it with a new flying coaster, Superman Ultimate Flight, there were protests against it so they tore down Shockwave, a 7 looping rollercoaster instead
Looks boring
To be honest, it is. But it is also pretty unique.
The bobsled style seating, low to the ground turns and scenery make this quite the enjoyable experience with a classic feel. Even if it's lacking any noticeable forces 🤙❤
I concur
@@spankyspork5808unique does not equal good
@@StoneheartCoastersthe seats don’t make it any more fun, the turns are so boring, there is nothing redeeming about this ride, you think it’s fun but if you rode ANY other coaster of the same speed you would enjoy it more. This roller coaster is horrible.
