As I'm as old as the sands of Sahara desert I haven't been in England in a long time but the last time I was there I love the people and I love the place and I think I would still love it today if I could ever get there!
I don't just like this music, I absolutely love it! Born in 1935 one would think a person would identify with music during teen years and I like that too. But I identify with 1930s. It speaks to me. Thank you so much for putting together this wonderful collection.
@@PHANTOM_EDITS- It's changed, but who can say whether for better or worse. May depend on what country you live in and/or which minority you are, i.e. black or gay for example. Getting the most serious operation now is a piece of cake compared to when they put you under with ether. There are just as many bullies and serial killers. I used to walk the streets of Manhattan all night long when I was homeless (or until I could pick up someone to sleep with), but perhaps I wasn't afraid because I was young, not because they were any safer. Porn was around, but almost impossible to find before you were fully grown up. But was that good or bad; you tell me. I don't think anything quite compares to Hitler's death camps and the mostly innocent victims that were thrown into them, but atrocities on a smaller scale continue to go on all over the world. I think it's all a matter of blind luck whether your life is heaven or hell, and always has been. I've always been poor (not starving poor, but we never had fresh fruits of vegetables poor), but I've been incredibly lucky in that I've never been beaten at home or on the street, never fought in a war (because they didn't want a queer . . . thank God), took great risks (took a one-way trip to Paris with $100 no connections and not speaking the language), but always found someone to help me out, which I've always paid forward. Sorry this is so long and probably doesn't help you at all. Take care. If we ever get into a nuclear war with Russia and/or China, I think we'll finally find out how bad things can really be.

Absolutely loved that. Many thanks, whoever you are. I'd leave you something in my will, but all I have left are debts... Music from when my parents were children, I came across it playing their old 78s over and over in the late 50s and through into the mud to latr 60s, and I return to it very, very often. An age of innocence? Hardly. Fascism kicking off in Italy, National Socialism in Germany, Franco in Spain... But there was an innocence and optimism in the music. Many thanks. 🇬🇧👍
Fantastic it was a awesome time to listen to dance music when Singers could sing and read music and a time when musicians could play several different instruments
These songs are from the era when America finished the Civil War the Spanish American was World war 1 and was dealing with a Flu epidemic that had people dying like fles and bodies were shipped off on box cars and it made covid look like a child's party birthday party complete with pony ride and a world depression that would not end until the 50's but we have songs to get people on with their lives. As a child I would go to relatives houses that were mausoleums from that era but they would put on this music to cheer up thier souls.
I'm surprised how many songs in here I actually recognized, even though I was born in 1989. I listen to a lot of 60's/70's rock. Cool, fascinating stuff here!
@marymrcomcastnet Actually, I meant more that these 1930's recordings *literally* are songs that classic rock and roll bands covered in the 60's. I just didn't realize they were, in fact, cover versions. Had nothing to do with reincarnation, lol.
For anybody with a heart for lots of music, I'm glad I found this today on youtube and that it plays practically non-stop one tune after another. Enjoying this now as I work from home and also do some house chores...it's been upping my mood and I've been sliding the floor with dance moves too...
The women of the 30's were elegant yet brash. They were smashing many old-fashioned values of their day. Cole Porter's song "Everything Goes" circa 1934 underlines that point quite nicely.
This is an absolute delight! Thank you so much for bringing back the music one could really enjoy listening to and which had understandable lyrics! When I heard Jessie Matthews singing "Dancing on the Ceiling", I was overjoyed, because you can watch her doing a very brief but excellent solo excerpt rom the film clip. She moves with class and wonderful elasticity, simply a joy to behold! Thank you again for sharing this with us. Glad to see young folks enjoying it, too!
