Tomorrow I'll buy a cofee, sit on my bed, look through my window and just look out of that and thinking.. the raindrops will just fall on the ground and this music will play.. I'm looking forward for tomorrow.

I play this music for people on hospice that are in a very advanced age. It is amazing. They could have very severe memory loss, but the music is still with them. Some even start to sing to the songs. It is incredible how the mind works, even when it is failing horribly. They remember playing a guitar to the music. They remember the women's baseball league during World War II. They remember building bombers. They remember putting scrap metal on their driveways for the war metal drives. But they do not remember people, places, how to do things. Music seems to be the thing that stays with all of them no matter what.

I was three years old when America got into the war. I remember when I was five we visited my dad in a VA hospital in Kentucky and they were playing Rum and Coca Cola (Andrew Sisters) on the sound system in the cafeteria. My aunt told me when a metals collector came to my grandma's front door, she handed him a metal tea kettle and told him to hit old Hitler between the eyes with it. She had five boys in the service. This kind of music is my favorite, it's delightful but sometimes it brings tears to my eyes when I think of such a mind-boggling war
that brought such suffering to the world. I am a dedicated WWII buff. With all the books and dvds and magazines I have on the war I sometimes wonder how we got through it.

I'll never forget when my great grandfather took me to the VFW for the first time, in remembrance of his father that fought in World War One. Daughters of the American Revolution benefit... Glenn Miller, Bob Crosby, all the greats, and others I'd never heard of. He was in the U.S. Navy during the war, survived Pearl Harbor aboard the Arizona. Went on to be posted to her sister ship, the Pennsylvania. He met a fellow sailor there that was on the West Virginia, and they became fast friends. Watching those two old men talk about their youth, that's where I discovered my love for the peace they, along with countless other allied men and women, fought so hard for to achieve.
I'm in the Navy now, and I can't wait to see him at the VFW again someday.

Listening to Gracie Fields singing "Wish Me Luck" it suddenly occurred to me that there were soldiers in the audience singing along who probably ran out of luck shortly thereafter. But thank God they were willing to make that sacrifice to keep the world free.

My Father was born in 1954, his parents used to sing these songs to him! When I was born, he sang the exact songs to me. I connect to these songs. Even though I'm only 11 years into my life. I've written a biography about Winston Churchill, for a school project. Since we're in quarantine, I listen to these songs whilst doing my work! 1:49:00 is the song that I remember dearly. I've never met my grandparents since that they sadly passed away before I was even born. I wish music now was like this! It's so beautiful, sometimes the lyrics just make me smile. Which I love!

I was born in England, 1961. That was sixteen years after the end of WWII. Even though many of these songs are new to me, there is a certain familiarity about them. It's as if they've been in the attic of my subconscious, only to be recently rediscovered.

fascinating! I was born in the early 80s and the older I get I get a similar sort of feeling about to the 70s. but there's a lot more media, of course, from the 70s, so I guess it would be easier for me to tap into that subconscious nostalgia, for lack of a better term.

Someone said it elsewhere but this generation, one that i consider to be the greatest of it's time in America and definitely in modern history is far deserving of more respect. For your efforts and the very strong war effort of the time there is no way for us to know what would and could've been.
I know this generation is almost to it's end but i am incredibly greatful i've atleast been able to meet one WWII veteran in my lifetime.

I'm here just because I'm just curious how the old-time music feels like and i must say these songs are fun to hear compare to what i have in my era. my music era has a lot of inappropriate words in their lyrics that makes me really don't like hearing them when i vibe. I'm 17 and here i am vibing to 1930s musics

Thank you for sharing this. I'm now 65 and have always loved music of the 20s,30,40s. Like many Londoners my parents and family lived through these times, and the music conjures up the spirit of the times. To paraphrase Dickens, it was the best of times, it was the worst of times, but without that generation we wouldn't enjoy the freedom we have today. I just wonder if they'd known how the world would turn out in 2024 they'd have been willing to make all those sacrifices? Somehow, I think they would )O(

Music during my grandparents' childhood way back during the 30s and world war II🥰 I know because they listen to this music every Sunday back then during the 90s when they were old and alive 😢😭
They have vinyl records of these songs .
They listen to this while making me a bag of popcorn and coffee with milk (my parents forbid me drinking this because I was growing kid) . It lasted until 1996 because December 1996 was when my grandmother fell into coma and died in October 1997. 😥😭
My grandfather lived longer until 2015 but it wasn't the same when grandma was still with us 😭😭😭😭
