Thanks for the shout-out about the tape on the springs hack. 😁👍
I used duct tape at the time you sent the email because it’s all I had. Bought proper gaffer tape and have yet to replace it. Great tip thanks for sharing it Rodney!
@@Podcastage if you cram a set of sponges between the arm and the springs it will do the trick aswell!
A headphones segment would be really good next time, just a mini suggestion :)
Beyerdynamic Dt 770 pro that’s the best thing
Sony’s mdr 7506’s. I’ve purchased about 7 or 8 pairs over 25 years. The best! For mixing and monitoring and just overall great sound. Every time I see someone on tv wearing headphones in a professional setting, 90% of the time, it’s the Sony mdr 7506’s. Hope that helps. In ANY SETTING, I prefer these.
DT990 pro is the best if you can do open back
@@ilusions4 sennheiser hd6xx is better then 990s purely because they have detachable cables, ripped out the cable on my 990s and failed to repair it
@@jonathantom8425 lol
Love the non audio gifts! Gonna use that flashlight to help me find the money from my bank account. Darn gear purchases !😁
That’s the stuff I think is most interesting honestly because everything else seems pretty predictable if someone watches me for 2 videos. Haha.
@@Podcastage truth! And we value your opinion on many things
Im gonna watch the whole thing despite being to broke to buy myself anything
Your videos just hit different, i love it

Other cheap gift ideas include:
* Sharpie
* Electrical tape for securing and labeling things
* Velcro cable ties
I learned a lot from your videos in terms of audio equipment and now I'm a big fan of yours I just love how you can deliver so much knowledge on each microphone.
Glad to see so much of the stuff I have has been influenced by channels such as yours. I have the Motu m2 interface, mogami gold cables, dm1 mic activator, rode procaster and the hakkan pop filter for my se 4400a mic. Thanks for all the work you've done man :). I tend to make allot of mistakes when buying pretty much anything so over the years your channel has helped me so much with getting better audio :).
I 2nd the recommendation for the XM8500. I have one and love it. Btw, loving the year-end wrap up. It's a great way to collect one's thoughts and get after that holiday shopping without spending a ton of time and effort going through reviews.
Bought the Motu-M2 and the Worker Bee off your recommendations and I LOVE them both. For streaming and voiceover work they have been excellent. I've had a little bit of crackling when audio clips start on the Motu, so I need to reach out to them about that but I'm still loving it.
I totally dig the list! I’m just forwarding this to friends and family who don’t know how to shop for me.
Stumbled on your channel the other day and loving the in-depth reviews and general content. This video alone is going to cost me an arm and a leg...love it! Easiest subscribe in months.
Even two years later this is still excellent information. Merry Christmas, Bandrew!
I thought it was great since there is something for everyone's needs and budget. Happy holidays!
Great content as always. Zoom F6... it's an interface, it's a stand alone mixer, it's a field recorder, it records in 32-bit float - oh, and bluetooth control via iPad if you're podcasting! I kept my Motu M4 because it's cute, but all my other interfaces went bye bye once i got my hands on this thing. Keep up the great work.
Rocking Rode Procaster + MOTU M2 audio interface and its awesome.
A year on with the Procaster/Fethead/PSA1, and I have this channel to thank for it.
I am so glad I bought the Neat King Bee almost immediately after seeing your review. Because of that, I managed to buy it for €90 and I love it so much.
Really nice and helpful video thank you.
Could you do a review of the m-audio air 192 | 6? Would love to see what you think about it.
Great video, thanks!
Are there any plans to review the Aston Microphones Element?
I don't watch every episode but wanted to say well done on a great show. I bought my setup for a podcast with upto 7K downloads a week based on this show.
I have an AKG C214 & Audio-Technica AT4050. They are very professional quality. Nice choices you presented, learned some new brands!
Lovin the ability to Jump around! Jump around! Jump around!
Jump up, jump up and get down! Well done
What an amazing video brother! Kudos to your hard work on this one! The categories, the choices, the advise was just perfect, very well done! Love Ya!
Thank you very. Kindly.
Great video as always! any recommendation on choosing between EVO4 and SOLO 3rd gen? Happy holidays!
Watched to the end see you in another 2 years.
Thanks. Happy Holiday and Happy New Year.
What do you think about Samson Satellite usb/ios microphone
Haven't even watched this yet (waiting through an ad), but that thumbnail looks freaking awesome man.
Also: I've watched quite a few of your videos today, and I just wanted to thank you for being such an awesome resource for audio information! I am now a subscriber.
I have some ideas for mics now and a few other things that sound important down the road perhaps, thanks, the video was very helpful!
3:07 Nobody:
Pop filter: aight, imma head out
sE V7 is my go-to streaming mic actually, a brilliant mic for sure, and thanks to its nice wide frequency response I got it sounding basically indistinguishable from my $500 sE X1T tube mic that I use for narration (to the average person) with a little bit of EQ matching, a truly epic mic imo.
Loved the new way you organized the vid. Thanku very much for work, regards from Uruguay
recently got the nt1 (for voiceover) because of one of your old vids haha best decision ever
with scarlett solo and mogami cable and that ammoon stand you already know
I also recommend the USM for broadcast dynamics that accept shock mounts
Thank you for your time and effort.
Got myself some gear based on your reviews. Good job!
Great list, Bandrew. I added a few items to my Amazon wish list so I hope my wife will see them. Thanks for making her Christmas shopping easier :).
Very happy with my Shure MV7. At least right now as new owner. With a metal screen pop filter, I have get zero plosives and It's tone fits my voice (I have a deeper voice than most, so this won't apply to everyone). It is also much easier to use than others I've used in the past- especially as a UA-cam mic. With it's app, idk what else I would really need. It makes the process super simple. Love that its USB and XLR and I don't HAVE to use an interface. I can't imagine a better buy actually for a versatility for the money and use case perspective, even though I have used some of the ones on your list here and they are also good picks.
What do you suggest as a headworn microphone? Both economical and more professional. Thanks for the completeness of the advice and suggestions of your video ^^
I promise to watch this again next year :D
i don't care about the gadgets I'm here cause you have a character i seek to posses . love you man.
Great list, Bandrew! The mics in the musician list, interfaces, and accessories would also be great for the Voice Over Talent in your life!
Question: What size monitors would you recommend to go with the ISO-Acoustics stands? They seem made for 3.5", but I've seen pics of people using 5" as well. (Trying to decide Between Presonus Eris e3.5 and e5. Thank you much!)
The neat Microphone Worker Bee is by far my favorite for Tom drums.. The side profile is dope! Try it it out guys.
Great list! Thank you for putting this together.
Merry Xmas! Had you tried OPR and Warm Audio 87s? What do you think of them?
I bought a behringer xm8500 and a worker bee because of you!
I have had the Motu M2 since a month after launch (got lucky at Sweetwater preorder) and love everything about it. I've "heard" of some issues but I can't say I have experienced any of them.
Great video! I am looking for a comparison for my current mic with behringer xm8500/umc22 to maybe upgrading(or downgrading) to the beyerdynamic headset mmx 300 2nd gen.
You're the only one that makes great comparisons and are super thorough. I just can't find anything to compare to the headset that is close to my current setup.
Edit: English not 100% Corrections were made.
Thank you for the great video as always. Can u tell please, does the mute button has any negative effect on the signal?
You forgot the headphones for monitoring, mixing and mastering?
Out of college and finally got a real job!! Gonna get this stuff:) thx man!!
I got the UMC 404HD as a gift for my birthday and I really like it, I personally think it is a competitor on this list since it has 4 ins and 4 outs and a reasonable price.
I can believe I just watched a near 35 minute long UA-cam video. Fantastic! I just sent a letter to Santa asking for new XLR cords, a Hakan P110 pop filter and the cool space pen! Well done!
Awesome list and great video!!! Thanks for sharing it!
At 23:13 I still need to try the fish filter idea for a pop filter, I kind of wish I could fell that foam to see if it has the same texture or not.
Hey, can you please do a full review on the Tascam 102i?
I can't find any decent reviews about this audio interface and would like to hear your opinion.
Santa is bringing me two 70hz tuned diaphragmatic absorbers for my studio.
Very excited 😜
I've never heard of those, can you drop a link to what you are going to get or some reading material? Id be interested in learning more
hey thank you for your videos
i know how much time it takes to makes something like this
i enjoy watching your videos and i like how you compare the microphones!
its also very helpfull for alot of people
hope to see alot more of you :) big thanks
and greetings from Germany
do you still recommend the scarlet 2i2 3rd gen?
also i think you also should have included the Samson MBA28/38 mic arm too! it's so much cheaper than the PSA1 and works almost the same!
much love
Have been using the Procaster for a year or so now, and could not be more satisfied. There are many microphones that are super fancy and nice that I want to try, cause I like gear, but for the sound quality, I would never need to upgrade, if I am being sensible.
I’m excited for the 2021 gift guide
I have some hopes that the U67 review will come out on the 25th 😊😁🤞🤞
Super nice video by the way.., I've been wondering that pop filter you use a lot, thanks for having it on this vid. I don't care how it looks, it sounds amazing, and for voice over work should be a wonder, cause when you use it, I can't hear any difference on your voice, and some of the others, even though are good, they can change the sound a little bit. But that P1 does a wonder.
I ordered the motu m2 from your link. They finally have them back in stock.
I've been looking into the Neat Worker Bee for a while as I'm looking for a good XLR condenser at a reasonable price point. However I'll mostly be using it for spoken word and voiceover rather than vocals/music production. Was interested to see that you put it in the music category and was wondering if you would still recommend the worker bee for spoken word or would I be better off getting something like the RØDE Procaster?
Thanks! Appreciate your content : )
This is incredible! Thank you!
Funtertaining - think you! I’m surprised the Cloudlifter didn’t make the list?
Got the q2u . Wonderful mic!!
Hoping to snatch the q2u this Christmas!
11:32 OMG i knew it, mine has been shutting off or freezing for months, but i couldn't always reproduce the issue. Then when it began to shut off every time i would power cycle a floor fan, I emailed support. It has stopped shutting off with the fan but it still freezes up randomly, I actually stopped using it and switched to my onboard sound card again if i'm not recording audio from a mic. This is my first ever interface and i just didn't know what to do. I was going to sell it and get something else (maybe the SSL) once the human malware subsides. Thanks for the info!!!
I have a gift suggestion for anyone who wants a shockmount for a handheld dynamic vocal mic. The Shure A55M is relatively cheap ($22), low-profile, and more effective than almost anything else out there at keeping boom arm bumps from getting picked up. One caveat is I'm not sure it will work with something like a Q2U that has a wider diameter due to also being a USB interface. But it should work with the vast majority of XLR-only dynamic vocal mics.
Bandrew you’re a real Santa :D and where is Scarlett solo / 2i2? I would add some headphones with noise canceling like Bose or Sony 1000 series as a great daily accessory for a good half of audio editing humanity, though it’s not a studio thing, it keeps nerves safe as much as the analog note book. Wonderful video, have a great Christmas and make/get greater gifts, dear friend!!
Please tell when do we need to start purchasing analogue gear other than digital plugins? And which gear should we start? Especially for recording live instruments ,vocals and mixing& mastering.
I've been using custom-made Audioblast HQ-4 starquad cables with Neutrik XLR connectors, they provide astounding quality for the price :) Also, external standalone headphone amplifiers are a blessing for those who mainly work using headphones, especially the ones which have higher voltage/current requirements due to higher impedance/lower sensitivity, or those whose interface's head amp section falls short of the necessary criteria required to drive those headphones properly. Not only does it grant extra flexibility, but a decent one paired with quality interfaces like the Motu M2 is almost guaranteed to elevate the quality of the audio playback as well
Hi, what Bout all of those mixing desks? They allow to add a lot of cool features to your microphone recordings such as Yamaha MG10XU USB Mixing Desk... Wouldn't they be a great competition to some standard audio interfaces?
Thanks for the info and for making the clickable links to different parts of your video!! Good job man!
This video is a gift in and of itself.
Thanks Bandrew, will definitely come back to this in a few months for the rest of my audio setup. I purchased a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (due to your review last year) as a first step a few weeks ago, as my 7 years old ATH M50-X needed replacing and decided to go with the Bayerdynamics DT 770 Pro (80 Ohm due to the interface).
Long story short, I'm very pleased with the result and have you to thank for it! :-)
Quick question, feel free to ignore it: is your day job at all related to the audio industry and/or is this "just" such a passion of yours that keeping it to yourself was just not an option? Because thank you so much for doing this, the quality of your videos has gone nowhere but up.
And a very merry holiday season to you.
Really useful video thanks
Last Christmas I picked up the silver B&H version of the Q2U for $39.99 so it's worth keeping an eye out for a deal this Christmas. 😉
I read "Last Christmas I..." and for some reason a certain song started playing within my head XD
Great video man
What about the rode podmic ??
How do you feel about the Blue Compass tube style boom arm at the $100 price point? I personally like the way it looks over the Rode one but I don't know anyone who uses the Blue arm.
I want to listen a great Neumann U87 with s good valve mic pre...
Even more magical and musical than the Mogami is Canare Star Quad cable with Neutrik XLR connectors. L-4E6S is what you want.
For pop filters, the Sterling PF2 (a.k.a. STPF2) is transparent, stays in place, and does its job for around $25.
Vincent I found Canare more road worthy then Mohami! Mogami is great cable without a doubt but Canare Quad is bullet proof used in Studio and on the road.
i got myself the sE X1A, so good
Hi Bandrew, perfection as always. Thanks! Just a quick question on the side: How come you sound perfect while the monitor meter in the background (on the apollo x8?) is constantly hitting the reds? :)
That’s the playback meter. I’m able to boost the audio by 12dB in UA Console for the monitoring, and that’s what I do. That way my mic level that’s really quiet is not dead ass quiet leading to me cranking my headphone gain, and then when I jump in discord I”m deafened by the people in chat or deafened by a UA-cam video playing.
Curious about the SE Electronics V7X for a dynamic instrument mic :p Its twin the V7 sure got many rave reviews everywhere
Hey Bandrew! could you please review the t.mix MicroMix? there are literally 0 UA-cam videos about it and in need an upgrade from my UM2 Thank you! :)
Bandrew, you need to look at the Samson Boom Arms....stiff but solid, and well priced.
Great video man!
Thank you Bandrew.
Hi, can you tell which condenser mic will be the best for for recording acoustic instrument/wind instruments like HARMONICA in untreated space/room ? Should I go for large or small diaphragm ? I thing about Rode NT1 and Rode NT2A. I will be grateful for your help. Regards
It would be interesting to see a comparison of the Austrian Audio OC818 vs. the Lewitt LCT 640.
I’m anxiously waiting for Christmas Day to open an RE20, and what a happy Christmas Day it will be. I think the only step up from that would be a $1000+ condenser like the TLM 103 or the OC818. I plan to use that RE20 to make some great UA-cam content and record some great music. Awesome video as usual Bandrew.
You’ll love that mic!
the misc segment was fun
What do you think - what is better - at2020 or shure sm57lce for podcasting?
Do you will record a video about recording guitar by audio interfaces without amplifier? I saw one on your channel, but that video has not very expanded.
is there any reason to use a vocal processor or the mixer instead of the USB audio card for streaming and podcasting?
On the musician side, mostly acoustic guitar and normal talking online, is there something in the middle of the Behringer XM8500 and the Neat Worker Bee ? Around $40-60. Thank you
I was a little surprised that you didn’t have any ribbon microphones under the instrument section, but great guide overall, Love the work you do. Hope everyone has an enjoyable holiday season
Yeah. Could have included the M160 or the KU5a.
Bandrew, I know you don't wanna recommend cheap USB audio cards anymore but could you give an update about Syba ones in a video? Last thing you said was they were decent but not ideal, are they still selling those with a decent ammount of voltage? Thank you for reading.
I just want to ask you, but glad you made this video anyway Love it !
12:57 : Focusrite 18i20 3rd Gen. "The reason you would want this is it has 5 XLR inputs"
Is it really only 5? Images I've seen suggest there are more.
Hi, I have a Behringer UMC22. For recording vocals should I upgrade to an Audient iD4? Can i hear any difference or not?
