I bought a 2008 in summer 2023 ($5,000). Everything works. At least 6k miles without issue. So happy I took the plunge! I'm guessing if I did recommended maintenance, I would have spent 10k too. But I'm just going to stick with oil changes until she blows!
I started a similar adventure about 2 years ago with a 2012 Supercharged. Immediately had the timing chains, guides, all the "while you're at it" items done, lots of cleaning and cosmetic restoration type stuff, and just routine maintenance. It's been amazing and there's honestly no other SUV I'd rather daily drive at any price. L322 has been a bucket list car since I was a kid and it's everything I imagined it would be.
L322 owner here. I too have put about $10,000 in my L322 (2007 - bought for $23,500 off BAT - probably the one you were referencing) bought mine at 50,500 miles, have 89,000 miles on it now. Do I feel bad, not really. You have to look at L322’s are being super stylish, luxurious and you’re still in a car that was $90,000 17 years ago. They’re far better than anything new made south of $45,000, and they’re iconic. I too have needed a new Air strut, air compressor (valve block as well) AC compressor too (gravely noise) serpentine belt etc. but now I believe I have a fully healthy L322. They are a pain sometimes, but they do cast a spell on us!
I had the same issue with the cracks in the dash, my last one was same year and color but since it was a Florida one like mine, the heat gets to them. If you buy a dash from the northern states at a salvage yard. I got the whole dash for about 400 bucks. I'll tell you, it's a challenge gets them out and replaced but I was able to do it myself in one day. The color is called "Sand" Hope that helps!
The Sound system is quite easy to diagnose and fix! You already have the right idea by looking in the back! You need to remove each unit clean the board with electrical contact cleaner, and also leave them in sun or on the radiator for a few hours. Most of the time they just play up because they get damp, putting them on the radiator can also fix them like I have done in the past! 😊
I spent $35000 on my TD5 Defender. Purchase price in 2005, high strength head & remap & big intercooler upgrade, suspension upgrade, ripped out the factory aircon and replaced with a different unit made for mini busses, altered high range gears, and maintenance over 20 years. Now going on to 450000km….
I have a 2012 L322 and am only about $3k in 3yrs and 20k miles with mine. Done a fair bit of the work it has needed myself. These need such a vigilant eye.
Repair / maintenance costs are a matter of perspective I guess. This car started like as an expensive luxury car and just because it's used doesn't change anything. $10K maintaining a Pinto is extreme but there's many luxury cars out there where a single service is $10K.
It’s 2006-2009 for the best Range Rover. They only had BMW engines in America for 2003-2005. I own a 06 full size Range Rover Supercharged. And 06 is the only year that didn’t have terrain response system of the 06-09. You’re right about the supercharged engine being the one to go for to get the power needed. There is an Achilles heel with the supercharged engine and that’s the coolant hose that runs under the supercharger and when it goes it can be expensive in labor because you have to remove so much to get to it. Mines haven’t went yet at 197,000 miles but I plan to get it replaced as preventative maintenance. The problematic 2010-2012 is the best riding and 5.0 liter is very powerful . These just need timing chain guides replaced etc to drive without worry. There’s nothing like the L322.
Land rover has always been my favorite. For me, the LR4, then the new defender 110. So I got the poor man's version, hyundai Santa Fe hybrid calligraphy 😅 I think you should definitely fix the dash and maybe upgrade the infotainment, but not the old version.
I had a 2012 L322 and aside from basic stuff like brake rebuild and a washer pump it was perfectly reliable. Ate a BMS due a bodge from previous owner. My L405 has been more maintenance heavy
@ Absolutely. Much better car, I bought the wrong one at the wrong time (just before values plummeted!) but had to due to local emissions rules/location. L322’s are wonderful and I still like them, somethings in them are “better” than an L405 - but the 405 is much better all round
I would get a Android based Headunit like Xtrons or similar. Then you can have native Google Maps and all the nice Android Apps in a good screen completely integrated with stearing wheel Buttons and the dash.
Great video! But you really need to learn to do these jobs yourself! Parts used and new are cheap for these but dealer and garage fees make them expensive! 😊
Have an 04 HSE. Have put 30k into it since last January. Guess what, my check engine light just came back on last week. Went 60 days with no Christmas tree lights on the dash. 60 days was the record. Great car though.
These require someone who’s familiar with cars from a mechanical standpoint, to keep these going trouble tree. If you’re mechanically handy, these are fairly cheap to keep going.
I am sorry but don't understand what you and many find in any Land Rover's. They are very costly and have a really bad gas hog. None of them are reliable.
You're getting swindled by these workshops it really irks me that you're spending so much money for them to just touch your vehicle. In reality these L322 ,L319 and L320 (LR3/LR4 and Range Rover sport) are actually very straight forward vehicles to service and repair, it uses Ford Engines also so they're not very picky on oil and filter (full synthetic oil and at least a fram filter at walmart) and theres plenty of forums out there that can assist you with repairs. My biggest irck on your repair bill is at 12:51 $1,100 for labor to replace the front air shocks is absurd, it takes 1h on both sides, basic tools and they probally didn't even calibrate the new struts to EAS, with you're suppose to do after any air strut replacement and before an alignment.
@ AJ V8 has zero in common with Ford V8 modular. It’s an all Jaguar design. Always has been! They are fairly good engines within reason, the timing system was always a weakness and cooling system(especially on S/C engines.
@@simplygregsterev I looked it up, I guess it's a common misconception due to Ford owning JLR during that period. It looks like Ford did find it reliable enough to use in some of their platforms.

Use OEM coils and plugs torque to factory spec! Aston used a 4.3/4.7 variant with a dry sump oil system. I work on quite a bit of these and they are pretty reliable/ simple to fix. Land Rover quoted me $9000 to fix the diff lock actuator on my LR3. I fixed it myself for free by spraying the shit out of it with silicone spray.

Range Rover described as "mechanically sorted" just doesn't sound right! ;-)
Amazing to hear someone talk about rust in a vehicle in 2025?
I thought Tommy at TFL told me that Land Rover was reliable? Jk:) I think he said to avoid these and it takes a special person to want to own one.
the air suspension will go bad so I would change out with a coil setup
