      +Bruce A. Ulrich Thanks Bruce! We were impressed how well the colors went together that the app identified. It would have been much harder if we had to hand pick which colors to use for the space mural.

    We did this project and it turned out amazing.
    We used an entire quart of the black for one 13' x 8' wall and let that dry. The sample sized paints (I guess them to be quarts) were $10 each from the Shermin Williams store so we opted to get sample sized containers (maybe pint sized) of the same paint from Lowes that had them 3 for $12.
    The 6 inch roller handle we bought came with a foam roller. I used this on the Honorable Blue and dark purple. It looked great until I started with the light blue which when applied, was very blocky and would not blend. We had also purchased a six pack of "WHIZZ Ceilings and Walls 6-Pack 6-in x 3/8-in Nap Mini Woven Synthetic Blend Paint Roller Cover" which I switched to when the foam roller failed. That made all the difference in the world as far as blending the colors.
    I poured about 2 - 3 quarter sized pools of paint on a piece of cardboard, run the roller through it which would seriously drink this paint up, then roll it on the cardboard almost until it was dry, then apply it to the wall. We had plenty of paint to do our project, but I could see where you might want to get 1 more pint of the Honorable Blue as we almost ran out of this one color.
    Thanks for posting this video. Your results are incredible.

    Thanks a basic fundamentl foundation for me . I will change how I blend colors though. I will use a big and small Woolie for blending. Also maybe mix some faux glaze into the paint. And after I paint the stars go over them again with semi-clear glow paint. I have an attic ceiling where the center part is 3 feet by 30 feet. just gonna vary the colors from end to end .

    • @GrayHouseStudio
      @GrayHouseStudio  3 роки тому

      That sounds epic! I would do one wall at a time to ensure paint you are trying to blend on the wall doesn’t dry. Maybe split the process into sections and work your way around the room. Like do the background color blending one wall at a time all the way around the room, then move to the stars on each wall and move around the room.

      Try using light pressure and make sure most of the paint it rolled off the roller of a scrap piece of cardboard. I find the results are best blending when the base color is still wet on the wall and you do the dry roll on top. You can switch back in forth between colors on the same roller and the paint will also mix on the roller to help create a smooth gradient.

    @rsnate2930 4 роки тому +1

    Around 1:49 in the video, what were you doing here? It looks like it changed a lot from this point until you started adding the stars... was this simply from the paint drying? Did you do anything to get the light blue middle to pop so well and look so much like "nebula"? It seemed to really pop at the end..

    • @GrayHouseStudio
      @GrayHouseStudio  4 роки тому +2

      Prior to that time stamp I added the lightest blue color to the center and tried to fan the paint out with the roller. Then, in the next bit I added the darker color around the light blue to define the nebula shape and blend the edges. Alot of it is trial and error. Don't be afraid to add the extreme light and dark colors to give a nice contrast.

    • @GrayHouseStudio

      I usually roll it out on a scrap piece of cardboard to remove most of the excess paint. The slightly wet roller with a little residual paint helps the colors blend.

    How do you think this would turn out on a larger cinder block wall already painted black?

    • @GrayHouseStudio
      @GrayHouseStudio  4 роки тому

      I think it would be difficult to use the roller technique on a cinder block wall since the spaces between the brick wouldn't pickup the paint. If you used a brush instead of a roller and use the correct colors I bet it would turn out great. Thankfully, the space image is pretty forgiving.
