I remember like it was yesterday being at the opening of 420 West Broadway when Gilbert & George performed this at the Sonnabend Gallery - 50 years ago, unbelievable.
I know it’s easy to think of this as Gilbert & George but at the time it was filmed (with G&G as unknowns) it would have been mesmerising, as it is now. To capture the living sculptures in this way and to give so much to mull over is a very clever act, and testament to two people (but one artist) who are amongst the best known of all British modern artists, excellent characters and a great insight into different thinking
Posso dire con certezza che in quel Tempo non c'ero. E possiamo dire dunque Grazie a chi ha registrato e conservato tutto ciò e ci ha dato la possibilità di vedere tutto questo bel spettacolo.
Yep. KRAFTWERK definitely copied these guys' elegant deadpan mannerisms and added some BEATS. "Living Sculptures" = "Showroom Dummies" and "The ROBOTS".
@@ROBOTkw1 There's also the fact that choosing this music-hall song appeals to a very British tradition, just like Kraftwerk use traditional German imagery and mannerisms. Definitely an inspiration. Love Gilbert &. George and Kraftwerk.

This reminds me of something you see at a tourist trap. Someplace like SF pier or Vegas.
Was at Sonnabend Gallery in NY in 1991
They even sing quite ok. :-D

I'd say developed rather than copied, but OK.
@@rodrigoolavarria Yeah, I'd say they were "inspired" by these guys' mannerisms . Different style of MusiK, of course- with similar "charm".

Perfect example of being DECADES ahead of your time
My mother took me to see this at Melbourne in 1974 (when I was 14 years old).
It changed my life.
