I mean you just say huhhhh and then press keys. If it’s the first note that’s the root Note so it’s the key. Then listen if it’s happy or sad. Major or minor.
Yeah I've seen that one (great job on it too BTW) I would just also love to see something that explains even more music theory for example, in your chord vid, your chord progression was C, Am, Dm, and G, and when you explained passing chords, you explained that you could jump between C and Am with an Em to spice up the progression. This probably makes sense to a lot of people, but I don't know enough theory to understand why this specific chord fits. Would you be able to explain this, or show me where you learned theory, so that I can have a better understanding of your musical choices? I don't mean to be troublesome, but I am only giving this constructive criticism because you are currently one of the best beatmaking youtubers out there and I want you to be able to master the art of teaching Much love Simon!
@@shadowpumpboi8851 I haven't seen Simon's vid on chords but when speaking diatonically, meaning all chords made from the scale, you're going to run into this pattern (I'll use M for Major and m for minor) M m m M m dim (also a minor) This is also read as I ii iii IV V vi vii* CEG DFA EGB FACE GBD ACE BDF Notice that the 1 chord C and the iii chord Em share 2 notes (E and G). Likewise Chord IV and ii share 2 notes (FA). While you can substitute any chord you like, subbing the 1 and iii or ii and IV are going to be easier because that have a bit in common. I'll let you look at the V and vii* chord your self :) chords 1, 3 and 6 are known as tonic chords chords 2 and 4 = Sub Dominant Theory can be a rabbit hole but fun to learn and comes in handy when analyzing and breaking down music.
For me, the easiest way to memorise scales is to just use them a lot. I have d minor memorised because most of my songs are in it (and also it’s pretty easy)
I know I'm late but, stable chord means when you go to it you can stop and it will feel fine. if you stop at a nonstable chord it feels incomplete. the stable chord in C major is well, C major. in A minor its A minor, In G major its G major, etc.
Seriously bro, you break down everything that most channels don't and always responding to your fans with dope advice. Its producers like you, Ave Mcree, Paul Allen, Nick mira who gives inspiration to many. Much respect
I learned piano and saxophone completely by ear and still in this video you were able to teach me more effective methods of detecting pitch. Simon you’re truly amazing

You are truly one of the top music theory educated producers on the internet, I actually started learning music theory a few days ago inspired by your level of knowledge! Keep it up! 👌
I don't hand out compliments often...Simon, you are absolutely the best. Cliffs notes for producer's. I've been through everyone's tutorials including BWB, internet money etc. (super time consuming). Save yourself the time and subscribe...or don't.
You’re videos are explaining the technical thing I’ve been doing all along. That’s sooo cool. But it’s a refresher for me at the same time. This also shows your growth with production AND the growth of your space. Thank you for all of your videos.
Man, you rock. I expected the usual UA-cam crap but you really took the stress out of this overwhelming "listening by ear" and "music theory" bulk. Thanks a ton for making this video, youhave a new subscriber!
Your content is so quick, informative and most importantly so fluent, and your attitude lights up my day to make beats over youtubers with monotone voices that drag out videos. God sent!!!
Servida Music Yo i have a question my g, I can always throw together a saucy chorus, but I can never seem to connect a verse into it, I just get lost. Do you have a video about that? I saw your “Interesting structuring” one but that was kinda step 3 I’m missin step 2 ya feel 😂😂😂 if you haven’t made one about that I feel like that’s something where a lot of beginners don’t feel confident at, would be very appreciated
Totally agree with your point of view. It takes time to get accustomed to figuring out key etc. of samples and then adding your own melodies on top of it. And it takes practice. I personally do a small melody everyday on FL just to train progression and schooling my ears :D top video as always
Hey Simon, here's a new and different challenge for you: try to make "Brazilian Funk Music" some MCS: Mc Theuzyn, Mc Livinho, Mc Pedrinho and Jerry Smith. Woow that'd be great to see you trying make it 😂😂😂
