My only question is how are those tires going to hold up if they have to drive over razor sharp coral attempting a landing? That was the reason the LVT was created to begin with, because the tracks were needed to get through the coral reefs of the pacific islands.
The boat lane that the acvs maneuver while in the ocean are lanes that are clear from any under water obstruction so the tires would never meet with corals
In perfect weather conditions on the perfect beach in daylight... In bad weather and muddy conditions at night these things are just big bright targets stuck in the mud.
Hope we get to use this more often because last week’s training, the AAV (Amphibious Assault Vehicle similar to this but a downgrade) impaired my hearing and it’s a pain to ride.
I imagine the Italians will also replace their aging AAVs with the SuperAV ACV, considering that its their excellent design: wouldn't be surprised if the Spanish followed suite as well. Meanwhile, the Japanese have decided to procure the Patria AMV to replace the AAV -- another wonderful design. They'll be doubling their defence budget in the very near future: they've always been a sleeper in the defence community, its about time they bore their fangs and got their shit together. Here's hoping they'll procure the Queen Elizabeth's; perhaps they'll also convince the Brits, Italians, and Swedes to develop a maritime variant of the Tempest considering they've merged their fighter programme with theirs. The carriers in Royal Naval service need a 6th generation replacement for the F-35B anyway. The Royal Navy has been discussing adoption of electromagnetic catapults on their carriers once the technology matures enough, which should enable relatively easy adoption of the Tempest to the maritime. That aside, I do wonder what will replace the Strykers in US Army service: whether it will be the SuperAV ACV for commonality, a domestic design, co-operative design a-la the Griffin III, or most likely a European design such as the Boxer. Us Aussies are replacing our ASLAVs with the Boxer, though it isn't amphibious and is much heavier compared to other Asian/European wheeled IFV/APCs which may be a dealbreaker for the US.

Do I now understand correctly that this vehicle is now the successor of the AAV7A1 Assault Amphibious Vehicle is??? Greetings from Berlin/ Germany. Sven
All my US Army time was way before all these amazing technologies. Starting in 1977. The dependability of these vehicles is awesome. To get an idea of my perspective. Imagine working on pieces of crap like the M-561 Gama Goat. Used to move a ground mounted M-30, 107mm heavy mortar. An absolute nightmare of a cargo truck. Something broke on this piece of crap everyday. Wrenches were in contact with that pile of rolling junk 24/7. When I heard most of them are now in the middle of artillery impact areas. I couldn't celebrate enough.
Me too. I'd like an armor comparison with this one and the "AAVs." Also, does this have only one gun? How many Marines per ACV? What about emergency exits while in the water? Would they be WWII sinking coffins?
I actually like this. It seems quite fast on land, be able to traverse terrain quite well but can the remote gun turret be equipped with 40mm AGL or ATGM like the Stryker? Also, what of its passenger capacity? Also diesel, good choice. Quieter than turbine.
I imagine anything that will fit on a CROWS (and other RWS since this is marketed elsewhere) will work fine. Marine Corps just awarded a contract for "Production Representative Test Vehicles" in August of this year for the ACV-30 which is equipped with a 30mm autocannon. If they stick with the Italian Hitfist it mounts a 25mm Oerlikon or 30/40mm ATK autocannon, and a coax GPMG with the option of mounting ATGM's such as TOW's. I imagine OTO and BAE are going to base something off of that to meet USMC requirements and go from there. But it's well within the realm of possibility since the original vehicle the ACV is based on is configurable with the larger turret.
As someone who spend eight years working on and operating the AAVs and understanding their capabilities, and their draw backs, I am not impressed with the new vehicles. You notice had there is no videos of them going through or over obstacles. There is a reason to have tracks on the AAV vehicles. This new will save on maintenance cost but will not serve well in rough combat terrain. YATYAS
I was wondering myself. While there are plenty of areas that are similar to the testing areas, there are plenty that are not. What if a jungle starts 10 feet from the beach? Someone else here mentioned "what about sharp coral?" with those tires. I would expect operational security to remain in effect until sometime after these are deployed.
The old ASV would be carried on an LCAC where it could be launched 50 miles out over the horizon and land anywhere 100 miles wide. The concept of launching slow individual vehicles up close is suicide. Anti-vehicle missiles, and drone's have proven that pretty convincingly in Ukraine.
