- After a lot of work, I'm excited to share my new Apex Legends EQ settings. I'm doing something that's never been done before, leveraging measurements of your headset, headphone, or IEM, and am creating an ideal sound target for Apex Legends. It helps with footsteps awareness while also reducing loud spikes of volume that cause us to turn the volume down. This benefits everyone, even people with much less expensive equipment that are trying to get a competitive edge. @GadgetryTech very welcome my friend, we appreciate you! I have a question about the Roccat Syn Max Air. You said this isn't the best footstep headset, is this due the way the housing is designed? Or tuning? I did use the tune for equalizer apo, while it does make the headset over all sound awesome, it seems to make footsteps not as loud? What frequency should I alter in peace? 400-700?
For siege, would be really nice if you could figure out a way to boost the kapkan trap sound without ruining the audio for anything else

Impresive Mr. Joe, honestly, not only the time spent to pin point where the actual footsteps are heard on Apex but the ability to relay/ teach in rapid fire so we can feel comfortable in trying it ourselves, cudos. I dub thee Professor J. Man I wish this video would had been out sooner it would had saved me from buying gear that is limited in the console world. This also show that gaming consoles still have a bit to go giving the consumer that true customation freedom. Professor J, thank you for your hard work, looking forward to more in depth videos likes these where we can learn not just copy the eq.

BadSeedTech's recent video brought me here! I'm super duper impressed by how you invested the time into building your target curve, and you explained everything really well. I haven't had much success with EQ because whenever I try other's EQ of my Focal Clear OGs to Harman or their own target (oratory, for example), it leaves the headphones sounding "thin" and a bit sibilant. But your tool seems amazingly user friendly and is definitely inspiring me to give EQ another try!

Did this today for my h6pro in combination with the g6 dac and wow...night and day, sounds like a completely different headset...seriously i didn't realize how dark this headset is until you make these adjustments. Now its refined and crunchy/crisp, music and movies sound great too! Thanks again Joe!
So glad to hear it! The biggest difference I've heard were on headsets like the Razer Blackshark and Corsair products. Those models usually struggle with footsteps but this was a night and day improvement on them. So glad to hear it's helping you out

Super impressive what you have done. My headset is not in the tool currently, i own a Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless SE. I did try the auto eq for virtuoso XT in case it would work but what it produced sounded like i was listening through a tin can, was really bad. @@nikithchengappa8405 kinda, for me it is louder just not by much, actually just the right amount, maybe it's your source, I've try this on my fiio newk3 and fiio k11, there is a difference, small tho and not in that way

This is soo much insightful; the thing about how much Q is needed for the 10band eq, Learning about Eqing from gamers is the worst thing is what i would say i have looked into it for years and everytime i get some reddit post that doesn't explain all the things or some forums on brand sites.
This video is soo much better than anything else at guiding everyone in the right way than all the things I've gone to so far.

I think a "fun" game target would be super cool -- something that is geared towards increasing soundstage and immersion.
No idea how reasonable it is, but it would be great to be able to easily eq something I use for music into something that's excellent for immersive single-player gaming.

Hey Gadget! Just started EQing. I EQ’d my SuperMix 4s to several sets of IEMs so far as well as the Apex Legends one you had listed.
Should I be adjusting the DBs on top at all or leave everything as is?
Please do a Guide for The Finals. Season 3 is dropping soon and it would be nice to get optimized audio EQ settings.
If you add some bands on the Squig equalizer, the AutoEQ will fill in more corrections.

Could you please do one for PUBG. That game has the most deafening audio of any game around and needs the most fixing out of any I have ever seen! Would be a great example of what can be done. Lots of people use voicemeter bannana to compress it as its insanely dynamic.

Awesome video again man! Finding your channel was the deciding factor for me to start dabbling with IEMs. I’m having an issue though, when trying to upload an FR for an IEM that you don’t have on your database from another Squiglink, and then choose either the Warzone or Apex targets, when I click on “Auto EQ”, it doesn’t generate a new “Average EQ” line and also doesn’t generate a full data number set on the left to copy into Sonar. Am I suppose to copy your “Target” and upload onto someone else’s Squiglink or am I missing a step?
Technically you can export my target if you look towards the bottom of the page. Then on another squig site, you can import the target in the equalizer settings. It will be pretty close overall.
Can you do a how to video for EQ’ing analog headphones for console gamers, I recently purchased a pair of iems and would love to be able to EQ them but have no idea how to. Love the channel and keep up the good work.
So it's technically a two parter. If you watch the console section towards the beginning, that will give you the first bit of info. Then depending on which device you have, the EQ section will give you two ways to do it for console

Just to make sure that I understand this correctly. I have the astro A50 Gen 4, i am using the SteelSeries sonar method. I should keep the astro command center eq flat? and what about Dolby Atmos, should I turn it on for spatial sound, or should I use the Spatial Sound in Sonar?
@GadgetryTech Awesome video. What if my headset Logitech G PRO X Wireless are not no your list? May I use the set up for the next gen G PRO X 2? I have tried it and imported in PEACE. Must admit that i heare footsteps from a mile away. But there is also sounds for example when im shooting a gun that makes my ears to melt, its very disorienting. and although foostesps are very clear, the game sounds very poorly in general like on a very budget earbuds. Also i have lost my 7.1 sound after activating the APO EQ. Is there a way to enable it and still use the EQ? Thank you in advance, appreciate your work!

What would be the correct Q values for the 15 band equalizer built into Voice Meter Banana? (It has 25, 40, 63, 100, 160, 250, 400, 630, 1k, 1.6k, 2.5k, 4k, 6.3k, 10k, 16k and those can not be changed as far as I read) Also great work, I tested it as far as I could and already noticed a major difference!

Joe, I need help. I have JBL Quantum one. I’ve been searching for a good equalizer settings in the JBL app on the pc. I’ve tried for weeks trying to look for good hz and kHz settings. I’ve been trying to make myself quieter and enemy footsteps/parachutes for warzone. Anything will help. Thanks Joe!

How do you get the targets?
I play a game called gray zone warfare and Sonar have a custom eq for it but I have no clue if it's any good.
I used the warzone eq but also not sure if I can use that for gray zone warfare 😅
When using the Steel Series GG Sonar software with Audeze Maxwell (WC freeze) headset, do I use the Audeze pre-set or pre-set 1-4 with the all the eq values at zero?

For the 10 band EQ, do I have to change the frequencies to (32, 64, 125, 250, ......., 16000) and the Q to 1.5 and then adjust the graph to get a close match to your Apex Legends desired graph. And then take the numbers to Steelseries engine (not sonar) and/or Dolby Atmos?
Hey @GadgetryTech I have a question. How many bands should be used during autoEQ? Also the default Freq range only goes to 9000 as default. Like if u using Peace, shouldnt u add more bands? For example If I make it 12 using Hartman 2018 I get freq 19000 at -12.

So far CS2 is leading the Google form survey which was surprising to me! That one will come sooner than expected. If you have particular audio cues you care about in addition to footsteps, please let me know
Thank you! For CS2, the footsteps are the more important thing + being able to pinpoint the enemy who is shooting, at close range as at long distance.
With the Steelseries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless, I personally use the Apex Legends preset to play CS2 (not with Sonar, the one integrated in the DAC), in game audio on Crisp, L/R isolation at 10%, perspective correction Off, push to talk enabled to avoid shutters when pressing the mic button.

@@GadgetryTech done, would be amazing 💪🏻 cs2 got so many new settings that GO didnt have from l/r isolation to perspective correction where everyone recommends something else and it's a huge mess. knowing what to pick there would already be sick and then a perfect EQ for footsteps and other key sounds would be fantastic. Got the TB Stealth Pro myself, so hopefully there's a way to just import a good audio hub eq, but anything would be greatly appreciated. your expertise is unmatched

I’m using an senheiser 650 hd and an soundblaster x4 on my ps5. I have an astro to withe mixamp but I don’t like the headset. I need some apex legends presets to be honest and I can’t still figure out how to do them on the x4. Can you help me out withe that ?
tried listening to the eq with an apex legneds yt video. definitely cuts the sub bass of the shotguns. the treble of hits/headshots sounded about the same to me.
footsteps were still hard to hear. maybe need to turn up headphones idk

Pull the left two sliders all the way down, bring 125hz down by about a third, bring the 4k slider up about a third way between the center and max increase. Give that a shot and you should get close for footstep tracking. It's not perfect, and you lose all the bass, but it helps with footsteps

Me either haha. FINALLY finished. I tried perfecting it too much but I'm really happy with the end result. I played Apex with dozens of audio products at every price range, then fine tuned the target EQ until I found something I liked on everything.
Can we use this tool for headsets like TB gen 2 Max and add the eq via the app?
I called out the 700 g2 Max towards the end of the video. In addition to that, you're better off using the Dolby Access app if on PC or Xbox. If on PS5, you are somewhat limited. Just enable superhuman hearing at like 20-30% and it will help a lit
One thing I notice about Apex is that the game has no "headphone mode" or headphone panning rule for stereo headphones like 99% of games out there which is really bizarre to me, this makes the sound really fatiguing when things really loud happens like explosions on the left or right from where you're facing in the game, there's not enough crosstalk (cuz the game uses stereo speakers panning rule with 2 speakers placing in front of you) making such explosion sounds really piercing on one ear.
Just followed this video for my Maxwells with WC Freeze pads. Two quick questions if anyone can help:
1) Guessing I use Audeze preset in Audeze HQ as a starting point and then use the Maxwell (WC Freeze) EQ? I noticed a separate EQ for Audeze preset but guessing that's stock pads
2) I have no option within my Apex audio settings to change the "Output Configuration" when my Maxwells are on. Any ideas?

That sucks!!! So sorry to hear that. If you need wireless, under $200 I like Nova 5, Nova 7, and HyperX Cloud 3 (which lacks in features but has a good sound). If you are okay with wired, EPOS H6 Pro Open Acoustic, Drop PC38X, or VZR Model One if you want stuff that will last forever. If you don't need a mic, HD 560S or HD 490 Pro.

You can make a secondary profile that's flat, or tuned to harman, some other option, then just toggle between both. Click Save if using EAPO and label the profile whatever you like
Using A50x GHub to EQ which shows range going 20 to 20K, should I be setting Auto EQ Range on Squiglink 20 to 20K or leaving it 20 to 9K (default)? I experimented it with 20 to 20K but it gives me DBs above and below 6 which is the max for G-HUB as well as Q Factors that are above the max.
Great question! Keep the auto-eq as it is. Even 9k isn't ideal to adjust manually, but sometimes it helps reduce awful peaks. If you set it that high, it will try to fix the wrong parts of the headset

If you follow the 10 band section and use the guide I made there, I have the Barracuda measurements on my squiglink database. Otherwise, you are using it on PC, set it to Flat in Synapse, then use one of the Parametric EQ options provided in the prior chapter

I haven't yet! Honestly I can barely keep up as it is. One target EQ takes me about 40 hours of work to make. Maybe once I release a few more targets I'll start reaching out.
Could you please tell me how to add a headphone when there is a L and R? when I upload the FR on the EQ page it automatically goes to L and doesn't let me change so I just end up with 2 x L.

I've found that if I just download your target then take it and upload it to the page that already has my headphones I think I get the intended EQ results? so I'll just go with that.
@@wyn2208 yup that will work! If it’s for a headphone or headset, the measurements could be slightly off but it will be close for the most part. For IEMs it’s usually a closer match. Which model was it?
