      agreed....the blue is harder to see once they are out of the water, but they have this crazy blue tint to them in the water. you can kind of see it in the release of the big one.

    Time of year? What part of Columbia or river system? Would you be able to recommend a reputable guide service?

    • @TyPigPatrol
      @TyPigPatrol  5 років тому

      This was mid January, arguably the best time of year for peacocks, as it is the dry season and less change of high water, which makes them harder to target as they go into the flooded jungle. Check out FishColombia on facebook and IG, great guide service.

    How would you compare the peacock fight to a big bull Red?

    • @TyPigPatrol
      @TyPigPatrol  5 років тому +1

      I saw this comment when you wrote it, and have been pondering this question all day. Peacocks don't have a ton of endurance, they are normally at the boat within a minute or two of the fight. Then they push again and pull drag, then you bring them back 3 or 4 times. The initial hit and initial run are terrifying. A bull red has a ton more endurance, and you never really see the fish until the end of the fight. So overall I would say peacocks are more fun and intense, but the endurance and longer power of the bull red is impressive.

    • @CowboyCarCrushing
      @CowboyCarCrushing 5 років тому +1

      @@TyPigPatrol well said. Absolutely explained perfect. I've caught big reds in San Antonio. Really hard fighting fish. I'm always more afraid of getting the rod pulled out of my hands than losing the fish. I dream of a peacock fishing trip someday. I'm sure it's out of my budget currently. You did really great work on these videos. Tons of action and awesome video. All your videos rock to be honest. Thanks for explaining the bite.👍👊

    Congratulations on the humane treatment of the caught fish! May I ask what type of spinning reel did you use and the test and type of line? In Shakespeare Sigma Series 2200 parlance could your reel be an 050 for line test from 8# to 30# or an 040 for test line from 8# to 15#? And out of curiosity how stable was the “piragüa” (the boat)?
    I would like to bring these fish to Costa Rica where I live. They are cichlids such as the indigenous species. The US Corps of engineers brought the Tucunaré to Panama to populate the Gatun lagoon, perhaps there were fisherman among the soldiers! There was a study concluding that it was so voracious, that it decimated the populations of snook and other species of cichlids that spread,to the man made lagoon. I proposed the idea in a local angling formula and it was furiously preyed upon and decimated like those fish to your lures and tackle! However, our indigenous Parachromis Dovii, locally known as the Guapote and commercially known as the rainbow bass and now as the wolf bass is from Nicaragua as the jaguar Guapote Parachromis Managuensis as well!
    In separate fishing channels I’ve seen that it has even been introduced to the waters of Florida to control the spread of tilapia, but it lives with largemouth bass as well. The latter giving credit to the quality of the water that your fellow Americans take pride on protecting! So who knows!
