@@axe2grind244GREAT owner; but poor GM. If he could just admit he’s over his head and hire a football guy to run things, he would go down as one of the greatest owners of all time. He got a lot of this from Al Davis; the difference being that Davis was a good football guy, but the game past him by. Jerry, though once a college player, never was.

I worked side by side with my parents for 30 years in our family business: I was beside of my parents bedside when they passed away. Both times, they each said how proud they were to work with me. We worked 6 days a week and Sunday was our only day off. Each Sunday morning, I would come over to my parents house and have breakfast, lunch, and help my parents with their yard work. I still miss it : Therefore,: I will always know that I am still the luckiest guy ever, and I am positively moving on in my life. OH YEA ! From this Marine.

I have worked jobs with both of my parents, education and then sales and then eventually back to education. They both helped me get my foot in the door, and I had to work to keep myself in it. I thought it would be a drag, but now I am eternally grateful for it. You eventually realize that your parents are your biggest fans and supporters and being around them brings you the warmth and reassurance that you need. I will forever be grateful for the lunches I was able to have with them, to go from rarely seeing them to being around them everyday.

Sure, Jones can speak earnestly about his own story, but the detail of doubling down on “sitting here sometime in the futu- *laying* here sometime in the future…” was great. Then I got interested and I just went on Wikipedia and it says that Sheridan wrote the whole of Landman himself. Sheridan writes pretty much all of his episodes. Which sounds absurd, but the most time consuming part of the writing process is the re-writes and accommodating the budget, and since Viacom has given him a blank check to do whatever he wants, I’d assume he takes very little notes from them as well. I assume he doesn’t get much sleep.

His kids are in one way or the other part of running the team in the background. Always had at least one grand kid at the owner suite during the games and his grandson is at Arkansas football team and yes Jerry did win the national championship with Arkansas in 1964 as a center and Jimmy Johnson as defensive tackle. My parents always wanted my brother and I to be doctors. Instead I became a lawyer, my brother got his doctorate but not in medicine. Our two parents had been practicing medicine for a combined total of 90 years when they retired. While we never followed in their footsteps it was only because they cast such a big shadow we could never surpass their achievements. In the end they knew it. We miss them both. My son misses his grandpa and grandma too. They were larger then life.

Since this aired last Sunday, I have watched this scene every day. I am trying to figure out a way to get what he said done. How did he tell us his story like that, with the emotions that he did, infront of really amazing actors. I wonder how that room felt once they yelled cut. That was a lot to take in as viewers, I'm sure Billy Bob and Jon were not expecting that. Amazing.

Jerry Jones failed to sling pizza's as a young man- borrowing over a million dollars in the 1970's to open up restaurants that failed. He failed at multiple business ventures in his 20's and 30's, going over 2.5 million into debt and primarily paid off by his father's insurance company. The plots of land purchased for 'homes' was really a smoke screen for starting a gas exploration company, his real intent and always was- and that is what landed him the capital to expand his business. The point I'm making is: You need to fail, again and again, before you and life come to terms and realize how best to prosper.

I like how he said "I figured if I was spending so much time out there I should get something going". That's what successful businessmen do. They don't just go somewhere and goof off, they are always looking for a business angle wherever they are or the current situation they find themselves in.

Who knows how many takes and how much prep had to go into this, but they stuck to it till it was perfect. I sure as sh*t don't want to chase my kids all over the country, I want them to have their own thing and let them be their own people. But I can't fathom the void I'll feel once they take off on their own. This is a solid message that thumps me square in the chest.

    Words of wisdom
You could hear his voice when he got choked up about it
Love like him or hate him, but you can’t disagree with them
And you have to respect the perspective
The guys a billionaire owns a sports franchise
And according to him in the hospital, he’ll be surrounded by his children who happen to run his organization
You couldn’t ask for a better thing
