Call Keystone You might get to submit the invoice to them for reimbursements. Keystone was a big help for us during our first 2 years of ownership. Glad you got it fixed. Safe travels.
Thanks! It is used a bunch, about 7 to 8 months out of the year. That one of the reasons we bought the Montana since it’s supposed to be a designed as a full time 5th wheel. Just a little bad luck this year.
Hi Jerry. That was unfortunate that you had to have the bedroom slide replaced . I'm glad the guys you had come and do it did a great job. Happy camping and safe travel to you and Joan.
Hi Jerry. Hope you & Joan had a Merry ChristmaYear. a Happy New year.. glad to see you posting again. Post a reminder about the cherry blossom festival in Macon. Maybe we can catch it this year. Safe travels!
Thanks. Hearing Macon’s Cherry Blossom Festival will be big this year extending into downtown taking overtaking 3rd street park. Peak time will be 3/24-30. Hope you get a chance to visit.
Wow, how unfortunate to have the complete system fail. So glad a replacement was available, trust that no further issues with this will happen Best wishes
Wow, Yes, I think that mechanism is on the 👎👎👎👎 side. Yes we have that in our Bedroom. And that is a professionals job. Vroom mechanism will be my go to replacement ( maybe) GOOD LUCK. And yes I did knock on wood.
I wanted to go the Vroom route, but it was a $4,000 repair. We’ve had a streak of bad luck this year with the Montana, replacing bedroom AC in March, main awing motor in July, then the Schwintek slideout decided to eat itself. Vroom just wasn’t in the budget. These Schwintek slideout can behave for years with no issues, but when they go, it’s pricey. Hoping this is it for a while. Just one of those things with RV travel.
Our local Camping World charged us $4k for replacing our living room Schwintek mechanism. Took nearly 3 months. They're now closed. We're in Texas right now, and our kitchen slide was acting up. Looked closely--a pepper mill found its way behind the trim to prevent it going out. Our rig is 10 years old, so all repairs are on us. Hubby is very handy and he'd never attempt this, either.
At $4k that’s a tough pill to take. Wish I had good experiences to share about my interactions with Camping World, but unfortunately that isn’t the case. My mobile guys charged half that rate including parts and labor. The big issue was getting in line to get parts which I understood go to the RV manufacturers first and for repairs last.
Congrats on the fix, Jerry! I bet you’re itching to get back out there and this probably seemed to take forever to get fixed. Now that you wrote that big check it’s time to go have some fun and forget about it until next tax season. Hahaha. Stay safe and congrats again. I know it has to be a load off. God bless!
Hey Jerry, this is Lou. What kind of maintenance do you have to do from now on. Do you have to do anything particular to keep that syntax rolling pretty good? Thanks.
I wish there were steps to prevent this from happening again. The only thing offered by both the repair guys and documentation is to hold the slideout button 3 additional seconds at the end of retracting or extending to keep the motors timed. This is reported to keep the slides from cantering. It’s just a poor design. It’s temperamental. Easy to get out of sync and if not caught just right to retime, then substantial damage occurs. It’s a poorly designed system and unfortunately, thousands more will installed this year in RVs.
Should be Vroom. Now that's a slide system. That isn't a large slide. We HAD a 15' two level whole wall slide. No appliances on it. But a 30" Stroke. AND only two rails at each end! Being novices we weren't aware of the schwintek curse. It became obvious this was the Achilles heel of that rig. We realized if it failed to retract we were dead in the water. Very expensive to repair. So, we bailed out of it. We recommend buying from smaller independent outfits.
Agree it should be Vroom. Wanted to replace with Vroom, but couldn’t make it fit the budget. I know…..this is a bit of a gamble. Over all, it’s ridiculous that Schwintek is used in these higher end RVs or any RV for that matter, but that’s the way the RV industry treats its consumers.
Agree. The Vroom for our rig was somewhere north of 4k. Our slide groaned and creeked. It popped trim off the slide box. Tore the vinyl floor. It was just a matter of time. It was too bad, I used to say it was like a condo on four wheels. Well good luck to you and happy, healthy new year.

The RV industry sure loves its junk. Glad you're fixed up.
