A beautiful story about personal growth...
But before that, let me say I'm thankful for such a wonderful rock instrumental that backgrounds the entirety of the song.
(and this is a personal ramble, interpretation)
Let Subject = universal person that finds themself in the story the lyrics tell,
Other = anything that causes the Subject suffering, mostly psychological suffering
0:20 - 0:38
Subject realizes they are a lazy person. They stare inside themself only to see nothing. And ponders, if there is another possibility. And the hunt of the starving subconscious' need for realization begins as "A spirit longs to soar".
Solaria has to "die" figuratively and leave the laziness behind and "be born" w her childish enthusiasm and determination (but determination is always after the first step, never before). This is the first time of change for the Subject. Change to try to grow, but is it enough to face the reality?
At first, when everything is good in life, following the subconscious design is always easy. Following an initiative brings us a reward in the form of chemicals released in the brain and good memories ("light ... Unlike I've ever known", it is a really nice feeling to create something, anything really, from nothing). The Subject can physically see what they achieve (in sports, art, science, there are so many hobbies, passions, subconscious dictates to each their own).
Look at the face at 1:30, it's childish, naive.
Inevitably, the Other will come to remind the Subject they are not a lonely island. They live in a society and have their mundane responsibilities. And that is good the Subject structures their value hierarchy to benefit the society. But also pursuing its subconscious seems to fade away~
People releasing little stars are not representing tribalism. They are voices of the past. Voices of those who shaped the Subject, who taught them virtue, how to build, how to never surrender (, because it's the Subject's humanity at stake, qualities that make a human, a human). What is there to lose after all.
Now, would you, the reader, look at the face at 2:50, it's mature, it is a face of someone who differentiates, separates from Suffering, who embraces Mystery, their subconscious call dictated by their past (whence the subconscious originates). It is determination fueled not by a charm that can wither in the wake of Realization of the Other that induces Suffering but instead by an honest Initiative, personal choice.
2:50 is also a turning point for the human narrative. Solaria decides to walk out of her comfort zone, to try a little harder. She has to "die" yet again and leave the uncertainty behind and "be born" w her eyes changed, now being grown as a person. This is the second time of change for the Subject. Change to finally grow enough to fully articulate themself in the world.
Maybe in another universe there exists a version of this song about the opposite. About rejecting the subconscious and its call just like a character named "Lunaria" would reject her celestial body. Rejection makes person sick, bitter, unable to grow. And growth is natural because people are living open systems. So denying it is a violation of one's own nature. And it is an important issue to ponder upon. These thoughts fuel not just singular people in their daily lives but these people have a societal influence. Think about communism, political aggression, intolerance, all these things that feed our comfort zones, stunting us from growth.
But this story is about Solaria, a universal representation of a successful growth. A decision, and everyone has to make their own. Although Solaria was corrected by the Other she managed to successfully negotiate something of her own.
3:15 is crucial, it captured the far future. the star is huge at this point, it has gained momentum through mundane work and dedication of a person who can only so much. but as the internet once spoke "imagine if you started today... what would it be in a year?"
I would tl;dr my little cesspool of thoughts like this:
Everyone has to negotiate the details, the Little Things of the every day life w/ none other than the life itself. Just so as to let it be placated, given what it desired, but also to placate one's subconscious.
