For all those asking for gameplay footage, I will work on a quick comparison video asap! I admit it was very foolish not to include gameplay footage but in my defense I'm a moron sometimes.
I'm liking the video before I even start watching because you labeled the arrow pointing at the HDMI cable. Love it! Also, I've watched a couple of your videos for the nes30 8bitdo controller repairs and will be attempting to repair my right shoulder button that recently crapped out. It's still securely connected, just doesn't click so it's stuck in a pressed state.
Excellent video! 👍✨ I'll be attempting this mod on my PS2 slim in the future. _"Greetings from the future !"_ 👨🚀 *"The mod went well, careful not to melt the PlayStation's case with the soldering iron next time."* 🎮🔥😅

love the video, thinking of doing this to mine but the PS2 slims I've got the motherboard extend through the case and run below the drive mechanism, hopefully I won't have space issues.
Great video dude! I just recently had the idea of something more clean that just having a big dungle sticking behind my ps2, I will have to try to replicate this with mine soon, although idk how the space will be since I have a fat ps2 and not a slim
Ey my dude this is awesome and I see it does tap into the av port on the ps2 but is there a way to tap into the better output of the ps2? Like a digital signal sort of because well for like the only ONE game that has 1080i lol is gran turismo 4 or is 480i the best it can do?
Hey, what would the wiring between the av port and a component cable be? Im trying to turn an old composite cable into a component with the spare materials i have lying around. I need to know what pins on the av plug turn into what component cables
I'm surprised it works with PSOne games because I have one of those PS2-to-HDMI adapters as well, and my Avermedia LiveGamer 2 refuses to acknowledge the signal from PSOne resolution games.
With Very Limited Knowledge I Have Would It Be Possible Just To Have The Hdmi Replace The Av Port In The Machine? If So Would It Be Possible To "modify" The Dongle To Have The Hdmi Port In Some Kind Of 3d Printed Bracket Just Live In The Av Port Itself? Again Very Limited Knowledge On The Ps2 Running Aspect Much Less With A Dongle Use
Hey my guy I've got a rock candy Xbox one controller and for some reason both my triggers are permanently activated so right and left trigger are constantly being pressed down, I've opened up the controller but I can't seem to find the problem any help would be greatly appreciated thanks
That is really weird for them because if I'm not mistaken they use potentiometers. You might have to measure the resistance of the pot to ensure it's not the problem.
Thanks! :) I used this dongle www.ebay.com/itm/For-Sony-Playstation-2-PS2-to-HDMI-Converter-Adapter-Adaptor-Cable-HD-USB-US/233391354804?hash=item36573573b4:g:MJUAAOSw7dNdwS~G
Hi. I done the mod myself, the only problem is i get black/white screen.. I desoldered all the wires and did it again but it is still black & white. If i use the original port with another adapter then everything is ok. Thank you for the video.
Do you teach basic circuitry and soldering? I'd like to restore an old receiver and repair the HD I on my plasma TV. I know I can do with the right education
I guess this is cool but I mean the dongle it converts it from analog to digital the newer HDMI cards that actually get soldered in are digital to digital a true clean source not to say that analog isn't clean
I'm afraid to do this, you see, PS2 in 2021 is just extremely rare or impossible to find a brand new console since it's production has stopped years ago. I would love to try this but I really wanna have a back up. I love my PS2 and I have a hdmi adapter though. But the problem is it uses some sort of pink filter. Any ideas to help get rid of it is highly appreciated.
I have some questions, first off this is a amazing mod! Great job! 1. Does this tap into the video signal directly? 2. Does the visuals look sharper? 3. Will you be doing this on the fat ?
looks like it does and looks pretty clear to me as I use gsm on my ps2 fat to play most gams in 1080i and I always ca tell straight away by the ps2 boot logo aswell as any text ...use gsm on the fat bro fmbc save yourself some time cant do 1080p tho threw gsm atm
I didn't do the mod but let me explain you anyway how I think this works. This dongle takes the component video output (analog) and takes it back to digital. So the answer to 1 would be no. There is Digital to analog within the original PS2 circuit and back to digital with the mod. These dongles exist for people that own new TVs without component, composite or SCART inputs. They upscale the image and convert it to digital, but the circuit is cheap and typically messes with the darker colors. I don't know if there are different qualities but I'd bet they all come from the same Chinese manufacturer. So the answer to 2. would be again no, but it's the only way to play sometimes. Actually, my TV has component input but it doesn't work with the lowest definitions, so I can't play my old PS1 games in it because the component channel shows "wrong input". On the fat it's the same (same cables to the same places) but easier since there is way more space inside. Regards!
@James Models with the EE+GS chip (PS2 CPU+GPU in one) are compatible with practically all PS2 games (same as later slim PS2s), while later models that only have the GS are less compatible because the EE is emulated in software. The EE+GS models were never released in Europe, unfortunately. Still, all BC consoles tend to break easily after a while.
Excellent work man but if these companies gave any fucks about preserving gaming history and made all their legacy games available digitally we wouldn't have to go to these lengths.
@@Solder_king LOL! Enjoy, man. :) ...and before anyone relates this to ReviewTechUSA's crappy HDMI Genesis: This is way better. First, PS2 is primarily 480i so it doesn't have the same 240p concerns as the adapter RTUS used. Second, these dongles are typically the superior kind of scaler used in stuff like Wii2HDMI (Hyperkin, LevelHike, Pound, X-treme, etc all use the same chip that goes into a generic RGB2HDMI box). I believe the RetroTink 2X was also based on the chipset from Wii2HDMI.
@@emmettturner9452 it's a huge improvement over standard av out. If I had a decent CRT tv I don't think I would have even bought the dongle lol. This specific dongle was highly rated where I bought it and its one of the cleanest upgrades I've seen so far. I'll definitely enjoy it :)
YEP just as the video said Giant Clickbait, i thought it would be proper HDMI output but nay its still converts RCA/Component to HDMI plug, no different then the external HDMI dongle, fucking LAME! I though in 2020 some one would actually make a PCB that gave you a proper upscaled HDMI output for PS2 without overscan and scanlines just like your favorite emulator. This is awesome man. Absolutely love the PS2.
An excellent idea, and one that can be easily followed. My only issue is finding a dongle that doesn't add interference as everyone i've tried does.

Component for sure

Amazing Work, have the FAT Mainboard the same Layout for Soldering?
Do you have video of gameplay? Would be interested to see whether it's stretched or scaled using this method.
Nicely done even if the Cut out is a little crude but other then that nicely done
Why don't PS1 games work with the HDMI dongle?
Everything works fine for me, but after a few minutes i get these horrible, flickering blue lines across the tv. I don't know what i have to to 😢
and some upscaler module?
Its a great project! Thank you for sharing. What dongle did you used? thanks. :)
edit: the sound still goest through hdmi, right? :)
There must be a way to tap the signal directly off of the GPU for better quality.
It starts out digital and the PS2 converts it to analog so it should be possible.

you are going to put an HDMI cable on the PS2 turn with the HDMI cable on the PS2 or rather the PS2 input I live in Brazil I am Brazilian
