- AEV Dualsport Lift Kit - Overland Jeep Suspension that Really Performs !!
My friends up at Lolo Overland in Portland, OR just recently installed the AEV 2.5 inch Dualsport lift kit in my Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Recon. At the time of doing this video I had put several hundred off-road miles and a good amount of pavement miles.
In this video I show you some of the installation, take you for a walk around the Lolo Overland Outfitters shop and showroom, and give you my hones review of how the lift performs for my style of use.
Hope you all enjoy!
Cheers,
Casey

As a Brit I can say hand on heart you do more for american tourism than all the brouchers ever printed....and a bloody good watch as per usual.
7 in the morning start of Lock-down and Im enthralled watching 4 springs being fitted to a Jeep?...thats how good your videos are Casey..... to you and all other subscribers Stay Safe
As a Brit fortunate to live not to far from Casey I can tell you I’m truly blessed to have all of the federal lands to go roaming about during the lockdown. Literally millions of acres to explore. There are times when I’m out there that I don’t see another person for 3-5 weeks at a time. I’ve found a few spots so remote that it takes all day to get there after leaving the pavement and yet still have a cell (mobile) signal strong enough to use the Internet. Last year I “disappeared” for 5 weeks in the late fall and enjoyed every second of it lol. Cheers mate
It looks great on your Jeep.
Stay safe and God Bless America! 🇺🇸
Its nice to see someone actually using their Jeep for its intended purpose. Here in SoCal I see tons of Jeeps with lift kits that look like they never seen dirt before. Its just sad.
Same here in Texas. Bunch of Middle aged Moms driving Lifted Rubicon’s that’s never seen dirt.
Sounds like a little lift kit is exactly what you needed, not to extreme but just enough to get you through the train and everything you're going through. I think I can speak for a lot of people out here especially in some of these States, like mine Florida, we wish we were in your shoes out in the wilderness enjoying life, and living in nature. Great video!
You have about 200,000 acres to explore at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. Get to exploring.
I give my AEV dual sport 2.5” lift an A+
Idk how you don’t have more subscribers. Your channel is awesome, video quality is impressive, and the content is always extremely entertaining and inspirational to me. Please keep up the great work, I always enjoy seeing where the road, or lack there of takes you.
NICE SETUP ! HOPEFULLY DOES WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR IN YOUR RIDE ! BE SAFE ! HAVE FUN ! GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS ON YOUR JOURNEYS ! ENJOYED !
So far its working great! Cheers!
I’ve been running my duel sport lift for several years and can attest to everything you say. It’s an awesome lift
Did you change your front driveshaft
@@TheGspot1014 you don’t need to change either drive shaft with 2.5” lift. Handling is superior to stock and I’m running 35” tires inside Bushwhacker flat fenders. I did install G2 front axles inside my Dana 30 front axle but that’s because I found the stock ones to be of poor quality (too soft of material) You have to pay attention to front drive shaft clearance with the 3.5” lift . You can’t go wrong with the AEV DualSport
We have a 2016 Rubicon with the AEV JK350 kit. It is an awesome vehicle. Can't wait to get out there.
Nice! Enjoy your adventures out there!
Man the lift looks good ! That will help out here in this country. Happy Trails out here. STAY WELL, TAKE CARE..
The Jeep looks great! I love how clearly excited you were when you arrived at Lolo. Understandably so. As always, thanks for sharing!!
Those guys are like family up there. So besides being excited to get some gear upgrades I’m always excited to see those guys and catch up. Cheers!
Probably a good thing you had that lift on our trip... Thanks for the update, George.
Agree. Those extra couple inches probably were just what i needed to keep my intake out of the water!
Casey, that lift setup sounds like it fits your bill perfect. Not extreme, not wimpy. Looks great too!
I think it’s about perfect. I’ll go up one size on tires and then call it good. Cheers!
Super helpful review! Thanks for sharing!
Hi Casey, Congrats on the new lift kit! Can't wait to watch your new and undiscovered explorations... Take Care, Ben.
Been waiting for u to show this bcuz I saw it on lolo UA-cam site. Nice looks rig.
Thanks my friend! Cheers!
Eastern Oregon tested, Coyote approved! Good to know it rides well. I'll put this on the "future upgrades " list.
You won’t regret it.
Looks like a nice addition to your beautiful Jeep.
It’s definitely an improvement to the ride. Cheers!
Glad you like it. Your review sounded like you read marketing material, not your own words. Please do not sell out to sponsorships or free stuff.
I would say after owning a AEV 3.5" dual sport lift kit with 35" tires - I wish I had done the 2.5" kit and 33" tires. With 33" tires no need to change gear ratio, easier to get in and out of the Jeep, no need for geometry correction brackets.
The kit certainly meets your needs to a “T”. I’m looking forward to your video on the Alvord trip.
Nice job Casey... I never realized a lift kit like this could make that much difference. So thanks my friend- because of you, I learned something new yet again.
Good evening Casey. I really like how you have built you rig. The look like you say looks really good after the lift. I can't wait to do the same on mine so I can really start to travel. Be safe Casey and take care.
Thank you my friend. The Jeeps are plenty capable bone stock but it’s nice to throw a few upgrades in there too! Cheers l0(
The best thing about doing things like the lift and a few others makes it your own. Others may have the same lift but each one is different. The last overland you did esp through the pretty deep water looked really good.
I'm sold on AEV and there couldn't be a better time to buy. The sales are insane, and I'm going with the full package of goods for my Ram.
I have a AEV setup on my jeep also...
Its been great. Highly recommend it.
You'll have good luck with it Casey.
Great video.
Nice shop. I'd be going crazy with all those offroad bits.
Thank you
👍🇺🇸
Imposter
I have the AEV 3 1/2 . Love it. And I agree the ride is better than stock.
Will look at this when I get my gladiator, thx for the vid.
I wonder if that’s another jeep burning up in the background @7:12 ??
😂
We have that Kovea Mini stove and absolutely love it! It seems tiny, but I can cook 9 eggs at a time. Also that grate you can grill right on it. We grill hotdogs on it all the time.
Another awesome product/company class act on both sides!!!! Keep up the content @Coyote Works
Looks good Casey glad it works well for ya
Thank you my friend. So far it’s working out great!
Wow those look so awesome it's cool that they make a kit specifically designed for the Overland crowd and not just the rock crawler. I wish they would make one like that for the 80 series Land Cruisers
Awesome cool video Casey 👌 now you're going to take the backcountry apart 👌👍✌🔥⛺🐾
Casey, thanks for the upload. Just bought a 2020 JLUR a few months back. Have always wanted one and inspired by you I finally did it. This AEV lift looks like exactly what I need. Looking forward to more over landing videos!!
Just added the gobi rack and the free spirt tent yesterday. And with the extra weight this looks like what I'm looking for to help with the squat.
Gobi racks are fire! Look so good.
Casey, I know you're excited about the new jeep and lift, but I'm hoping you will test out the new bronco with factory 35s and lockers! I wish ford would loan you one because it's supposed to be built for dessert terrain..
I always appreciate yor videos Casey...... thanks!
Oh yea, you need to relocate your diff breathers if you haven't already with all that water in this video
Yup 👍
We have a 4 1/2 inch lift with the HD trailer springs and it is even more amazing off road. We have the 2018 Recon also, love it!!!!!!
If I decide to ever lift my XJ information like will really help make a good decision. Thanks.
Jeep looks awesome! I'm sure performance is a huge improvement too. Enjoy!
Cherokee Chief,a real Jeep, miss mine, wish I never let it go
You are so lucky to live in an area where you have hundreds of miles of open country to be able to explore.
You can always tell a well laid out candy store when someone buys a few hundred dollars worth of stuff!
Look'n good! Pretty deep stream crossing there!
At one time Kovea was part of Hanook, I have a Kovea butane lantern that is stamped Hanook on the top cover. Its good kit!
Did you install the AEV geometry correction brackets? I just installed the AEV 2.5 Dualsport on my 2008 JKUR and love it, too. I have the brackets and have not yet installed them but I think the ride/handling is fine without them. They are said to lessen nose dive on braking, but I feel there is less of that with this suspension than my stock Rubicon suspension. Great video!
Wonderful video! Just found your channel and really love it! What size tires are you running in this video? Thanks again for sharing!
Looking at this for the next upgrade for my JL with some 35’s
Can't go wrong with bilstein shocks. I have the Boss Toytec add a leaf spring set up on my Taco and they aren't bad.
I was so close to getting that lift. Ended up with Teraflex.
Really a nice build, and I completely agree with john doe: nice to see you using Jeep for actual overlanding.
A few questions:
I missed some of the parts list, did you add the geometry correction brackets for the front lower control arms? I know they're not part of the 2.5" DualSport kit but I've read some folks add them anyway.
Are you running 285's or 315's? Nice proportion to the amount of lift. Guessing 285's and they look good...not too much, not too little.
I notice you're running the stock rims. AEV recommends their rims for the specific offset and backspace, so do you have any issues with the front tires rubbing when turning if the axle's articulating? ...and are those rims 7.5" width?
If you were to do this build again, would you opt for the 3.5" dual sport?
Again, really nice job on the Jeep, it looks fantastic, especially covered in dirt and dust, and I enjoy the heck out of your videos. It's good to get different perspectives, so much to learn.
Great job and thanks! Happy trails, eh?
Looks good! Did you get before and after measurements? I am wondering if it is a true 2.5 " lift or did you get more or less out of it.
Can't go wrong with #bilstein IMO.
Rigs looking more capable and enjoyable each time we see it 👍🏻👍🏻
Jeep looking good
Great job Casey, can you tell me what size tires were on that vehicle, what size tires you have on there now , what size tires can go on there with the Lyft
I would be interested in the tire issue also.
What size tires was he running 35s?
Great upgrade!
Hey Casey! Nice review of the lift kit and I hope it serves you well for a very long time. I just bought a 2020 Jeep Wrangler Willys and need time to see how it handles my off-roading/camping style before deciding to lift it, or not. When the 32" Firestone MT's wear out I might just put 33's on it and add a front locker. We'll see... Take care! Pete - KI7LIL
I’m interested to know how much it cost to purchase the kit and have it installed. Also, more footage of what you found in their showroom would be nice.
Cheers mate and happy trails
Thanks my friend. Maybe Josh can jump on here and share the current cost... Otherwise you can check at lolo4wd.com. Cheers!
What size tires are you running with that suspension?
Thank you again
Looks great!! Thx for the review COYOTE WORKS
Good video , thanks for sharing !
What did you do about the front track bar? Kept stock or installed an adjustable?
What size tires are you running with that lift? Also, does the OEM electronic sway bar disconnect still work with the relocation brackets or did you have to go to standard disconnects?
Jeep looks great! May have to check out the Kovea gear too. Thanks!
Noticed a coffee cup was apparently one of the lift kit's components on the table. Trust that coffee cup performed, as well as, the rest of the lift. (hehe)
Apologies if this has been answered, I did a quick scan. This is the lighter spring kit. Did you consider the 3" high capacity springs from AEV? I am running a regular kit on my overland JLUR and feel like it is under sprung. AEV says the high capacity kit is for overlanding, roof rack, roof tents etc... Thanks.
I have the standard springs but it does seem just slightly under sprung. I may end up getting their high capacity springs. But then again I may end up getting a JLU too. ;-)
I have the same JKUR Recon even in the same color. I put on the factory 2 in lift to clear 35's. The Fox shocks work great. I was wondering how the rear tire carrier is holding up with the extra weight of the Rotopax.
I would like to know this as well.
Me too! A tire carrier is the first thing I’ve always added to my Jeeps to avoid the tailgate dent.
This is prob off topic of this vid. But can you do a vid and explain the gates and cattle crossing you cross. I see sometimes you open gates. And sometimes see cattle rails next to like a house and you drive thru. Is this private property? Are we allowed to open a gate? Are we going to get shot? lol. Like the channel. Keep posting.
That’s a great idea. I think a lot of people have a lot of the same questions. I’ll put it on my list of videos to do. Thanks for the suggestion. Cheers!
Saludos desde Chile
Great video thank you!
I have that norco jumper it starts my work semi lol
Did you consider Mopar? I'm narrowed my choices to AEV and Mopar. Brad at TrailRecon noted that AEV is a rough ride on washboard roads. I'm like you, I don't do much extreme rock crawling.
Casey, what size tires are on your Jeep? Lift looks great!
You certainly gave that gear a test on our last trip! I was pretty close to begging you to let me ride shotgun for a while...
The Lolo Overland guys seem incredibly cool. Does this mean that the Coyote Works Jeep 2.0 is now a 2.5?
I’ve been running the AEV Dual Sport for about 8 years and can’t say enough good things about it
Gotta add the geometry brackets and do a new front trackbar!
What size tire did you go with the lift ?
I also have the AEV 2.5" lift and live in Montana doing the same type of overloading. I am wondering what size of tire you are using ?
I have the 18 JKU Recon. Did you measure how much actual lift you got out of the AEV 2.5" over the stock recon suspension?
Casey, I have a 2015 Rubicon Hard Rock Edition, and I have been considering this kit. did you have to have an alignment after installing it? I have access to a lift and was planning on doing the install myself, but I don't have access to alignment rack to check the alignment when finished. so I was wondering if you needed a wheel alignment after install. also did it change your steering wheel center? and lastly, what size tires are you running, I am currently running the same BFG AT KO2 285/70R17(which is just under 33") like the new JL Rubicon and they seem to fit fine with out a lift, but I want a little more clearance and a better ride, the factory Rubicon springs and shock seem to wallow from side to side over uneven terrain so I definitely want to change that.
I didn't need a alignment for my 2014 Unlimited.
Killer !!!
Can u recommend a roof rack and the brand tent that u run? Thk u
Are you having the big group ride/camp this fall?
I hope so but it’s a little up in the air. Currently we are still restricted from having gatherings due to COVID... Hopefully that will change. Cheers!
Can I run 35" tires with this 2.5" lift?
Are u heavy? I have 2104 4 door wrangwlr and I have the xl smitybuilt tent and who rack. Have a lot of sag in the back (rubjcon express 2.5 lift on now) im trying to get the ass up. Hows ur experience with this kit?
Torqued to spec prior to being on the ground? 🤔
What app or program are you using on your tablet for navigation if I may ask I've been using avenza
Is there a change in the payload on the JKU?
How well does this lift carry the extra weight on your Jeep?
It does really well. Seems to be about perfect for the load I carry. It’s designed for the overland type user so my guess is they designed it based in part on knowing that most of us carry quite a bit of extra weight in gear.
Did you use wheel spacers?
How often do you run into a nother person on your adventures
What size tires are you running with this lift kit?
I’m running 285/70 17s. They are the perfect size for my type of trips.
Hey , K.C. love what u r doing, Great job, i have a old 93 5.2 Zj grand cherokee . but im trying to find something better to do a little build... Anyways u should hook up with Chad & Living the van life , he has a great utube chanel also it would b really cool to c u both in action lol Thanks Again
I’m also interested in this kit. Anyone running it with 35s? If so, any problems?
It should work great with 35’s. I’m running 33’s now and there is a lot of room around them and a lot of room for flex. My buddy is running this same lift in his Jeep and he’s running 35x12.50 s.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Yeah... you're not married, are ya? Hahaha!! Shopping at LoLo like I shop at the grocery,.. lucky man,...
I'm lovin the look of the Jeep. That is definitely a dream machine. But why do I never see any women overlanders?
Now I think you need a awesome dog for you trips to!!
There are a few of them but it’s true you don’t see many solo women overlanders. Cheers!
How much does something like this cost?
I’m not 100% sure but I think right around $900. Cheers!
Things should have been torqued while on the ground not in the air.
I’m sure it will burn down again when you are ready to get something new
