The footage is from a Polish Documentary from 1989 called "Defilada", there is are multiple youtube videos of this documentary with slightly worse quality. Hope this helped :)

Everything here looks cleaner and better maintained, the people are noticeably better fed and healthier looking, the electricity is also more reliable. Barely a half century earlier the Korean people had lived repressed under Imperial Japan, in conditions comparative to feudal serfs. And after the Japanese occupation would come even worse times with the Korean War. Years of fighting and destruction, millions dead and essentially the entire country in ruins from warfare and constant bombings. And then, almost miraculously, a renaissance and economic boom in the 50s, 60s and early 70s. Rapid industrialisation, rising standards of living, education and health care. Outpacing their southern neighbours who were also fraught with constant instability, coups and political violence. And even though the economy slumped from the mid 70s, they general population still had a decent standard of living, not at all uncomparable to South Korea. The 1988 celebrations depicted here (the 40th anniversary) and the World Festival of Yourh and Students in 1989 were extravagant spectacles, to show the best that DPRK could offer. And in just a few years it would all have turned to ashes. The collapse of the Communist Bloc, disintegration of the Soviet Union and liberalisation of China (as well as the debts from hosting said festivals) essentially broke North Korea and its economy. Gone were the secure and stable post-war times, with the 90s came rapid economic decline, famines, rolling and constant blackouts, a crisis not seen in the country since the Korean War. Even if North Korea eventually recovered somewhat, not even today it has the same standard of living as in 1989, and any illusions or hope for a better future or dreams of being equal with the South are gone.
North Korea doesnt need to match South Koreas economy to succeed in beating them. In fact its not desirable to aspire to be like the south. Unless you are an aforementioned member of the state party, you most likely live in a rural, destitute area with constant blackouts, starving people, and infrastructure that is crumbling more and more each day. You also live under constant threat of being thrown into a labor camp for any reason, sometimes no reason other than to be cruel. Listen to the children who were able to escape. They have stories of seeing their parents get executed, getting beaten by seemingly everyone, and most importantly the lack of food. You are playing right into their desires when you go online and claim that NK is a good country to live in. Their propaganda worked on you. I understand that a lot of internet communists often feel left out of regular western society, and feel as if they do not belong in a “western” style community because of how they’ve been treated by their peers, and will look at places like NK as good because of its aggressive/militant structuring of its government/society. They believe that their life would be better living somewhere like NK, they imagine joining the state party and having some semblance of power and control that they lack in their actual lives in western countries. I’m guessing you’re pretty young, and I promise you that when you get older you will see the truth in situations like these.

You are playing right into their desires when you go online and claim that NK is a good country to live in. Their propaganda worked on you. I understand that a lot of internet communists often feel left out of regular western society, and feel as if they do not belong in a “western” style community because of how they’ve been treated by their peers, and will look at places like NK as good because of its aggressive/militant structuring of its government/society. They believe that their life would be better living somewhere like NK, they imagine joining the state party and having some semblance of power and control that they lack in their actual lives in western countries. I’m guessing you’re pretty young, and I promise you that when you get older you will see the truth in situations like these.
