  • Sellenger's Round performed by Atlanta Historic Dance
Sellenger's Round is considered to be a traditional English country dance, but it may have begun in Ireland. It originated in the 16th century, and was very popular throughout the 17h century, and continued to be danced to this day.
Atlanta Historic Dance always ends each rehearsal and performance (when time period permits) with this dance.
This video is from a performance of Atlanta Historic Dance and Lauda Musicam of Atlanta. In this collaborative concert Lauda Musicam performed early dance music as Atlanta Historic Dane performed.

It's easy to see how English Country dances evolved into American Square Dancing.

Absolutely! When I'm teaching it/talking about it I call it the ancestor of square dancing.

Sellinger's Round was not traditional, it was composed by William Byrd.
