The car still looks good even for today's time. Well, that's if you can find one that was well taken care of. Cause most people don't take care of their Mercedes and they just run them down into the ground, especially the S-class. Which is probably one of the reasons why they lose value so quickly.
Wow. I love these semi acceleration shots. Gives such a good perspective of the cars' power and a good comparison standard between the other cars he tests. And I thought the Murcielago and the GT3 he recently tested were fast. But this thing just catapulted forward like nothing!

@bconshred Your comment caused me to consider what can really be done within the limits of a 4 door sedan. Mercedes traditionally is pretty conservative with its body design. The only 4 door sedans that really look a bit radical right now to me are the Porsche Panamera (but less luxury that MB) or the Rolls Royce line...to me the Ghost looks a bit too "gangsta'", and the Rolls Phantom, SO magnificant, but the price is beyond idiocy at a million bucks. As a real car, Mercedes S still wins.
The S class is a very accomplished car, even when you buy the entry level diesel/petrol models such as the S350 CDI/S350. 7 series is definately more sporty/better handling, but for serious on road presence (and intimidation), the S stands out by MILES. It's also good/refined to drive (for its sheer size) and rides like a magic carpet with cathedral-like quietness (BMW/AUDI/Jaguar need to learn alot). It is a timeless classic, really no other car like it. Best of the best!
Great choice Chris, the AMG S-Class is a hell of a sleeper! You guys are in Chicago, you should look into Eurocharged/LET Tuning, they tune the 5.4SC and V12 Bi Turbo Engines, the S65 you tested is underated a bit, hp is more like 660 and torque closer to 800ft-lbs. Eurocharged can also get your S55 in low to mid 11s with boltons, 500rwhp and over 550rwtq is common with their aftermarket boltons. I always appreciate your reviews, keep up the amazing work. -Andy

your right about the headroom in the CLS, but the Panamera has definitly less space in the back than the S65, which only comes as L version, see the "interieur data" on the manufacturers pages. And as many car magazines wrote, the ride in the Panamera isnt as comfortable as in the S-class.

@damidamon definitly the s65 its a lot more exclusive and its top of the range much better than the s350 and i think you can do a full facelift conversion for the s class to make it look like the 2010 model.

Matte black rims would look AWESOME too!!! Just another style! I think the matte black option would be more "muscular", more serious, while the chrome option is more classy... They would both look awesome.
That is one of the most BEAUTIFUL S65's I have seen. I have always been a huge fan of black cars, but as I've gotten older and realized how bad black turns over time even with proper care, white is a pretty cool color. The chrome 20's look so amazing. I don't even think you said how SMOOTH the ride is. In my E class it is SO smooth, and I figure newer S is smoother.This car is FLAWLESS Great review 10/10. Best 4 door sedan in the WORLD :). How long did it take to learn all the inside specs? lol
Yea i must say the feeling when you drive these v12's is just huge amounts of power and torque the car feels so solid when turning driving every luxury option you could want i mean its tough to describe..
The funny thing is, that "50 piston" huge caliper is actually TWO SINGLE piston floating calipers on one bracket. Pretty weird choice at the time, and even weirder now.

I love hiw mb is still making these insanely awesome twin turbo v12s! The 2014 sl550 has one of the best interiors of any car including bentlys Astons etc. if I were in the market I would definitely wait a year when the new 65 comes out. If I was weakthy and looking, I might still get the Aston rapide
