It's impressive how few people have disliked this in 20 months. It's rare that people can universally agree that something is awesome.

Thank you and thank you for subscribing
Your videos are helping me raise money for saint judes children hospital.
Just thought youd like to know all of the tips im learning from you, will hopefully help fight cancer in our little babies. Thank you for sharing your knowledge !
Ill email you pictures of the completed projects when my supplies arrive!
I glad that I can help.
So good, i dont even cosplay or anything i just watch the videos because theyre so in depth and well made lol
I love how succinct these videos are. Instructions are concise and bullet pointed so I don't find myself searching for the next step. Ted's enthusiasm for the medium is also endearing and I love the designs of the pieces. It's very creative and inspiring. I'm really hyped for trying this myself!
Thank you. I do like showing how it's done so that you can build your own cool stuff.
Hey Ted, I just wanted to say thankyou, not only because of how much effort you've made in these tutorials but the time you've put into helping us cosplayers/prop makers. You're truly a hero for us all my dude.
Thank you for your kind words and support.
Thank you for talking abut Creaturecast. I had never heard of it but think it's going to make my life so much easier.
evil ted smith the bob ross of foam craft. love what you do, thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Thank you for watching.
And I'm still stuck on transferring my pattern to paper
YES! Every day there's an Evil Ted video in my subs is an excellent day. I follow a lot of maker channels and yours is my favorite. Your tutorials are the absolute best, you show so much of the actual process rather than just an overview + voiceover. I learn so much with every video!
Regarding your store, for some reason the neck armor pattern and the helmet/elbow/shoulder patterns have buttons underneath them that take you to the checkout page, rather than "add to cart" buttons. I was still able to add the neck pattern via the actual page for it, but it took me a moment to realize that was an option. At first I thought it was because I'd bought it before, since I *have* gotten the helmet/elbow/shoulder patterns, but I have no record of having bought the neck one.
Just thought you might want to know so people don't end up confused and can do a quick add from the main store page. :)
Wow that creature cast looks like a phenomenal substitute for latex. :D
Just wanted to say thanks for all your tutorials Ted. They really help
Glad to help!
Evil Ted, you are the Bob Ross of foam! You make anything seem possible. Thanks for sharing these videos!
You're welcome and thanks for subscribing.
Extremely helpful. I was debating about using foam or worbla for my next armor set, but the awesome battle damage effect you've achieved has convinced me that foam is the way to go.
Great. You'll find that foam is easier and cheaper to work with.
OMG....!!!!!!! Thank you for being you and thank for showing us these wonderful tips and tricks.
Yeaaaaa, Evil Ted getting an upgrade in the production value! Big ups to you, man! I hope this channel gets even bigger, because this is great, great content! :D
Thanks. More to come.
Another great tutorial Ted! I think this was a great lesson on how to ‘move material’. There is an ugly stage like any other piece of art, but it’s about moving around material from large bits to small and after many steps you’ll get your desired effect.
Yes, it takes some time to get what you really want. Thank you for subscribing.
As usual, your videos are the best. You are a living treasure for the prop fans out there!
Thank you for subscribing.
It looks so great! Thank you so much for making these!
Thank you for subscribing.
TED! Just watched your Tested appearance. Great job! Hope you gain some new fans from that.
Thank you and yes it did.

Gosh, you make this look so easy! It's absolutely delightful to watch. I've been wanting to start making my own cosplays for cons, and really have no idea where to start, but your videos have definitely been a huge help, even with planning on how to go about making the armour. Thank you so much for making these videos!
Thank you for subscribing.
Such a great and informative video. Keep it up! Always a treat when I see a new video. Also that Creature Cast looks like a wonderful product. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching.
You're a god send to the foam users. I refuse to use worbla, Ive been a fan of the foam since 2007. Thank you so much, you have eliminated some stressful situations regarding the taming of craft foam.
Thank you. I choose foam over most over most materials when it comes to building armor.
I can't believe that's actually foam. such an amazing work!
Thank you for subscribing.
Great video ted! thank you very much for always sharing your amazing tips

Yes finish so I can see it.

Really helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
THis rocks man! Subbed
Thanks!
Hey Ted, great video! I noticed that Creature Cast comes in different rigidity, what is your preferred rigidness for sealing foam?
+Evil Ted Smith I Love your channel Ted. I'd like to see you do an Adam Jensen from "DEUS EX" armor and arms build.
Hi Ted thank you so much for making these they are going to help me take my cosplay game from mediocre to... well slightly less mediocre
Ohh thanks a lot! Got some new ideas for future projects *u*
i gotta get me some of that creature cast lol
awesome
You're awesome!!
You're awesome for subscribing.
Ted, great video! Thanks!
I've got a quick question for you if you have the time. A friend gave me two eva yoga mats, but the have a bumpy texture on both sides. Any suggestions on how to still use them? Should I cover them with a thinner sheet of eva?
Looks like a couple of haters gave him a thumbs down. This is great work Ted!
Haters are always going to hate. Thanks for subscribing.
It also could've just been people who thought it wasn't a good video.
thank you very much
Thank you for subscribing,
Hi , great job , does the yoga mats work? Thanks
Evil Ted Smith can you do some painting?
I love it! so is the creature cast a good alternative to loads of plasti dip or latex sprays?
thank you for such a helpful video. Quick question, if you dont mind, how many layers of the casting did you painted on? It looks very useful.
Two thin coats.
I was wondering how you go about making the spikes flush with the armor? I watched you other video on seams and still can figure out how to properly apply that to spikes. My thought is to make an indentation cut for the spike to rest in then fill around it with kwik seal, would that work or is there an easier way?
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You're awesome for subscribing.
@@EvilTedSmith I am trying my hardest to learn your technics, I am making a Gene Simmons costume and it's very difficult but I am learning so much from your video's. I have bought all the tools that you recommend, I have everything I need so I'm determined to do this, this is my first time doing anything like this...my hat is off to you, you're the best.
@@EvilTedSmith please watch my short video called EVA Foam Skull, it's my first attempt and I learned only from your video's. I hope you like it!
Hi Ted, Thanks for the great videos. Have you heard of "Worbla" for making costumes? have you used it and what do you think of it. Could it be a possible future video?
I prefer foam over Worbla.
I'm trying to make the M'baku Amor from black panther can you do some like that?
Evil Ted, how do you cut the interior curves at 10:45 in your video?! I keep getting unsightly jerky lines in my cuts...
thanks you're awesome
Your awesome for subscribing.
Hey ted, I want to make a stormtrooper costume and for the chest piece, it sort slants down half way, do you think it would be necessary for me to make the main part of the chest piece then use another piece of foam for the higher part of the chest piece that slants down since I don't have a rotary tool?
Great. As per usual. ;)
Can you do the same details on Worbla?
What would you say are the major pros & cons of using the propane torch vs a heat gun for heat sealing?
The only real difference is the torch is faster. The heat gun is just as good. Stick with the heat gun.
sanding sticks, that's brilliant! why didn't I think of that? Thanks Ted!
hi glad seeing you I'm subscribed to your channel
Thank you.
You're welcome.
Evil Ted Smith I really love your foam work. I want to make my own cosplay costume for my first time cosplaying, but there are tools I don't have access to. For example, the sanding drum. Is there an alternate tool to use that would do similar work as the sanding drum?
Check out this video. ua-cam.com/video/bzeTS6PLedc/v-deo.html
Evil Ted Smith Thank you for the link^^ And might end up investing on some tools. The heat gun is handy in my view for other usage
How did you make the piece that's next to the shoulder piece, closer to your neck?
Hi there! Wondering if the seams that I do not want to come apart will also open if I cut fine lines across them and then heat. I'm trying to cut detail lines across the entire female chest armor so some will intersect at the cup seams. Any suggestion? Btw the tutorials are very easy to follow. Thank you. Making a Wonder Woman costume for my daughter.
Not if you let the glue dry before heating it. I'm glad that my video is helping your build costumes for your daughter.
is there a way i can send you pictures and ask for advice?
are EVA and closed-cell-foam the same thing? can both be manipulated with tools/technique like in this video?
thank you very much!
best regards from Bucharest, Romania! ;-)
Foams in different countries are almost the same thing. Use what you can get you hands on. Ask local Cosplayers what they use to make their costumes.
Hi Ted! Have you abandoned your box cutter for an exacto knife? I saw that you were using one on your Tested shoot as well. Thoughts on exacto vs 'extendo'?
Love the box-cutter. When they asked me to make a helmet I didn't have my tools with me...
For the creature cast, will you want to paint before or after you apply it to your foam?
After!
Hey Ted, how do you keep your armor in place on your body? I mean like shoulder pads, how do you strap them?
I will strap them when I'm done.
Do you have video on making the spikes ?
Yes, this one.
Yeah making Halloween costumes for my kids when they were younger was a lot of fun, but now I’m a 51 year old man and apparently I’ve been living under a rock because I have absolutely no idea what cosplay is??? So if anyone would like to educate me on that, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks in advance to anyone who fills me in on this matter.
I just saw the Tested vid on the For Honor costume and saw the work you did on the helmets. Any chance you might upload those patterns to you website?
I believe that Frank was going to post photos of them on the tested site...
Ok, thanks
Ted, can I ask you how you decided to do the recess cutting on the already rounded armor piece rather than doing it before on the flat piece?
If you do the recess cut before you heat shape. You'll find once you start bending it all your recess seams will pop open.
Thats why I like to do it after it has been heat shaped.
is there a video where you do an entire piece using plastidip instead of latex or that creature liquid? only because plastidip is cheaper for me, but am i giving up quality?
Do we have to use a brand new blade with the X-acto blade, or could we just sharpen it?
You can sharpen the big blades, but when doing detail work I like using a new exto blade.
Hey Ted,
Curious how to attach a pauldron without a chest plate. I saw you have it set up like that at the end of this video. I've got a costume that calls for simple shoulder guards and a brigandine, so I can't attach the guards to a solid plate like your male body armor tutorial.
I ended up putting a strap on that ran across my chest around to the back with a faster.
Evil Ted Smith thank you! That's pretty much what I had before, but with elestic webbing instead of a strap and fastner. I've bought a pint of Creature Cast on your recommendation, and can't wait to try it on the helm I'm making.
fantastic video :D i have a question, im trying to build a helmet. its a bit like a roman style helmet without the fuzzy thing that sticks out the top but it still has the channel looking part that holds the brush thing. (im full of all the technnical terms :P) but i cant seem to figure out how to get the channel to follow the curve of the helmet without having weird creases in the foam where it bends round the curve or gaping holes where the channels curve is larger than the helmets (i so hope ur able to figure out what im meaning) help me PLEASE :) ty in advance
+Evil Ted Smith That would be a good question to answer, as learning to do that would be very helpful in a number of situations.
Cut out the design like @4:50 in the video. push it through, and that will allow it to retain the shape without bulges. I hope that makes sense. x.x'
Hey, Ted! How goes it? Hope you're well. Love your videos. I don't even have a project to work, on, I just love watching your videos and you're a great instructor. Question: do you prefer Creature Cast to Plasti-Dip? And can you use Creature Cast in stone molds? 😊❤
Hello Eric Yes I like it way better. It's cheaper and it's non toxic. Yes you can use Creature cast in stone molds. Go to his site for details. creaturecastrubber.com
@@EvilTedSmith cool, thanks, man! I'll check it out.❤❤❤
Hey Ted! Love your work, but I was wondering. Have you ever covered some of your armor with a thin layer of fiberglass or even just the resin to make a harder she'll?
I figure it may need to be pretty reinforced to keep from cracking.
No! I am not a fan about putting hard resin on soft foam. My question is…Why?
+Evil Ted Smith I have been trying to figure out a way to make armor that has a hard exterior but is still light weight and still has the dimensions that foam gives you. Any ideas?
Hi Ted, I'd like to know the exact name of this material (mat foam) because afaik, there are many types. Is it EVA?
I have my supply list just below the video.
What is the best type of EVA foam to use? Can you use interlocking exercise floor mats?
Yes you can.
+Evil Ted Smith thank you so much for replying. I will be starting a cosplay armor in a few weeks to get ready for
Comicon next year and it's my first time ever making armor. Loved your videos on the female armor, it was easy to follow and understand how the process worked. I can't wait to make mine.
How hot is the foam once you've hit it with the heat gun?
It was cool to see you on DIY Prop Shop btw
I like hot when heating to foam. The key is to keep moving the heat gun.
Evil Ted Smith
Never too hot to handle though?
Thanks
hi ted! i'm italian and i don't understand if the name of your tools are the same here... i'm wondering, at 2:23 are just piece of wood or..?
It a sanding stick I had to sand foam with. Check out Tools of the Trade 2.0 video.
