I can definitely vouch for Solid Signal knowing their business. Their equipment is top notch, I've been using an antenna from them for over 10 years now.

I mounted one antenna on a satellite mount and I had no issues. The second one is mounted on a regular pole. It isn't hard to figure out. I maintain our 32 unit condo which the builder wired for OTA. I use a Pico Macom TA-52 as an amplifier and we all enjoy every OTA channel in NYC.

I don’t think so. Tyler needs to be taken down a notch.

I have 7 years experience in installing TV antennas and satellite dishes. In Europe most people use both antennas and satellite dishes (KU Band) beacuse there are lots of Free To Air channels on satellite.
First of all the satellite dish is designed either for KU Band (from 60 up to 180 cm) or C Band (180 cm or larger). To use a satellite dish to receive VHF UHF channels is like using a Wi-Fi antenna to receive TV or Radio channels it will perform very poor. Maybe you will have some luck receiving UHF channels but if don't live near the broadcast tower it's usless, a loop antenna will do a better job. For OTA I would rather use a Yagi or Log antenna for VHF UHF reception. The satellite dish I will use it to receive Free satellite channels as for OTA I use a 7 elements VHF High antenna, 19 elements UHF antennas and for FM a simple FM vertical stick antenna and I get all radio stations in stereo. An FM/VHF/UHF combiner two diplexeres and
DIPLEXERS it's important to mount 2 diplers one outdoor and one indoor splitter they work both ways can also be used to combine antenna and satellite signals on one cable at the end it's mandatory to separate the signalls, The diplexer has 3 ports, one for satellite (950 - 2150 or 2400 MHz) one for antenna ( 47 - 862 MHz) and the other is IN/OUT. The LNB needs a 13/18 Volts power, 13 Volts is for Vertical Polarization and 18 Volts is for Horizontal and you don't want that voltage to go in your antenna and TV/STB that voltage is only for LNB and satellite receiver. But the diplexers protect your antenna and your TV/STB. You can have both signals on one cable no need to run a second cable for satellite or antenna.
About splitters you're right I installed a two way output splitter and I had both FM/VHF/UHF and satellite signals with no problems but I had 8 Db attenuation on VHF/UHF so I had to mount an amplififer to boost the signal strength, MER, CBER, LBER and signal quality were not affected only the signal strength. We use DVB-T2 broadcast sytem.
The second problem with TV/SAT splitters is that if you connect to satellite receivers you can't watch all satellite channels if both satellite receivers are turned on, one receiver must be turned off. Unless the satellite operator is broadcasting all TV channels on one polarity either Vertical or Horizontal if TV channels broadcast.
Satellite TV is more complex than Cable TV or Antenna, The KU Band it broadcasts on 4 Bands in Europe, Middle East or 2 Bands in North America and rest of the world. Those satellite bands are Vertical Low Band, Vertical High Band, Horizontal Low Band, Horizontal High Band. In North America you have Vertical High Band and Horizontal High Band
The KU Band is broadcasting on 10.75 - 12.75 GHz, The Low Band is 10.75 - 11,75 GHz and The High Band is 11,75 - 12,75 GHz, The LNB downconverts to 950 - 2150 MHz and it has a built in 0 to 22 KHz to switch the band. And the voltage changes the polarity
    The C Band is broadcasting on 3.7 - 4.2 GHz you don't need a 0 to 22 KHz switch.
This is why a splitter is not recommended in most cases unless the all the TV channels broadcast on a single band or you want to test the signal strength and quality you also have an H-H motor to your dish one cable is outside for testing and the second is inside for home use.
For OTA TV i recommend an amplified splitter not a regular splitter like the cable ones.
The solution is to install a MULTIPLEXER. A multiplexer has 2 satellite inputs and one antenna input and two ouputs where both signlas are combined or it has 4 satellite inputs , one antenna input and 4 outputs but at the end you must install diplexers to separate satellite signal from TV signal. And then you can watch all your favorite stations. For OTA reception you must install an antenna amplifier between the antenna and multiplexer otherwise you will have great signal losses.
I wouldn't recommend splitters because the antenna signal strenght drops and some UHF channels can't be received and you can't watch all satellite channels only some of them.
Final thoughts, you explained very good and Tyler is wrong. As for TV either you use the satellite dish for Free TV channels or mounth a Yagi or Log antenna for OTA channels or use both satellite and OTA antenna to have more channels.

Do the splitters in the link work the other way around (2 antennas to 1 tv)?

Can you go into further detail as to why a Dtv splitter wont work well. Like what are some specific design differences between it and your skywalker? (that is also labeled for satellite use)

    • @SolidSignalNovi
      @SolidSignalNovi  Рік тому +3

The Skywalker splitter is rated for satellite frequencies but does not have the frequency crossover across the output ports. That’s what makes it safe for antenna use. I recommended it because it’s well built, passes power, and has high port isolation.

The thing is, ALL TV antenna reception is line of sight only. there is no such thing as a 50 or 100 mile antenna --- unless eithor you or the antenna (or both) are on a high mountain. In urban areas, 25 miles is about the most you are going to get with a high rooftop antenna. In the South Bay San Diego area, the local TV broadcast antennas are fairly high up, so I get the three local nearby stations with about 8 channels ... now the content is abysmal, but its still free :)>

That’s only true in a vacuum. In Earth’s atmosphere full of gases and dust, signals do refract to an extent over the horizon.

How about NO splitters @ all as most antennas that would mount on the J mount are way too small to be splitting

Splitter is the wrong term to describe these devices and will lead folks astray, The correct term is power divider.

I stopped subscribing and removed his channel from suggested videos probably about a year ago. Although I don’t think it was his intent, it became a vanity project with sycophants annoyingly praising him in the video comments and competing to get their names mentioned/listed for donating to him. It also became about making money with him recommending products that weren’t worthy and avoiding any efforts that didn’t. He specifically told me of something I recommended that he wasn’t going to present because it wouldn’t make money. Also, after a pattern of sending him money to make personal recommendations, he rudely snapped at me saying I accused him of removing a comment, which wasn’t true. After I told him that wasn’t the case, I never received an apology. It think this guy’s on the spectrum. His videos all have the same annoying rhythm to them. He’s not a very good presenter; the information used to be good, but now it isn’t reliable.

Hello Noone and was intrigued by your comment because I had some questions on his content as well. I use to really enjoy his videos and the antennas he would review. I also admire his knowledge of over the air broadcasts and the different indoor/outdoor antennas out there. However, I started to become confused by some of his videos which he would say about why pay for tv when you don't have to do so. He would be passionate about this as well. But then he started to tell people about pay streaming services such as Frndly or Philo which they can subscribe to if they did not get a certain over the air channel which may be offered on the Philo or Frndly pay service. My trouble with his statement on this is some people have really no choice but to pay for tv due to the area they are living in and the content they watch. Then again, doesn't this contradict his whole philosophy of using an antenna in the first place? Lately it has been the MeTv Toon video that just did it for me. This channel seems like a great channel especially for people growing up watching the older cartoons. However, this channel is only available in 45 out of the 210 tv markets. Which is not even a quarter of the tv markets. So, not much to be excited about for this. Although I like older cartoons, I am not going to pay to watch them as most of these cartoons at this time are offered on other free streaming channels. Not to mention, I am sure metv will show the same cartoons in the same time slots for many years in a row which just gets tiresome. Referring to regular Metv now. I applaud him for getting the word out there, but as of late think his direction of how to get free channels over the air started to go off track. I could go on and on, but don't want to bash him as he has great intentions and always has been ok with me. I just am confused on his actual direction as of late.
