@@fanusamurai :) I'm old enough to remember when two-step took over from that sort of more intricate beat programming (I used to go to Metalheadz and other clubs regularly back in the mid 90s). At first it was great, with tracks like Warhead and all that - simple, driving. But I think Drum and Bass has been stuck in a cul-de-sac with the ancient and venerable two-step beat for too many years, whereas the _real_ Drum & Bass, the magic stuff, was when the tricksiness of the beats made your head twist inside out while the other elements kept steady and the bass was like some gigantic alien telling you a story :) Mind you, that type of beat programming fell into its own little cul-de-sac for a while, when _everything_ became chopped-up Amen. Maybe that's what made people move to the simpler beats, they just got sick of hearing Amen, glorious though it is.
@@gurugeorge Man, I fully agree with you and know what you say. I could talk about this for hours and hours (makes for a good topic when downing beers as there's so much to say, heh). The 90s stuff was great as things were groovy, clever, ORIGINAL, and sampling was great. A lot of the time I can't be arsed with the 2-step stuff (there are some great songs ofc). I think DNB - in general! - got way too homogenous and lost its clever underground music edge. A bit stale maybe. And yeah, as for Amen, I don't like the super crazy "choppage" or the really lazy stuff either. Like I said, original stuff is what I miss. Just about to put out an EP by a new artist (TRC2) on Lightless on Sep 2 that leans a lot towards 90s…style that is quite original imho.
Ahh the breaks 😮
Damn Janne, your shit has gotten sick man. It was hands down bad ass when you released Deppression Decade.
Thanks man!
The very last one 🥵
Looking for it btw !
Fanu - Firemind
Pure sickness. So dope
Thanks man!
I really like the blend of "liquid" top end and the harder, old school tricksy drum break stuff underneath.
Thanks man, I appreciate this!
