Teens charged in Charlotte shooting spree that targeted random people

- Two teenagers are facing charges in connection with a shooting spree that killed one person and injured at least two others early Tuesday in north Charlotte.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings announced Thursday that multiple divisions worked together to quickly identify the suspects and arrest them.
Deputy Chief Tonya Arrington said forensic analysis has linked three of the incidents, including a homicide along Statesville Avenue near Interstate 85.
"These were brazen crimes," Jennings said. "These were crimes that put our community at risk and created a safety hazard for our community. CMPD personnel took this personally. They took this as a threat to the safety of the citizens of Charlotte and they acted appropriately."
Arrington said CMPD officers spotted a suspicious car Thursday morning. One of the suspects, a 16-year-old, was inside the car. Officers also found a stolen gun in the car, Arrington announced. The teen, who hasn't been identified, is charged with first-degree murder. Additional charges are expected against the suspect.
The second suspect, 18-year-old Carlos Roberto Diaz, was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, five counts of attempted murder, two counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle, two counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury.

Charlotte needs to invest in these teens and have something for them to do. When you have parents that don’t care or are working like slaves because the cost of living in Charlotte is ridiculously high you need to make sure they have productive events to keep them busy. It sad to look at Mecklenburg County jail and see how many kids are in there for murder, stolen vehicles, assault 😢😢😢 Mecklenburg County has failed.

Don't get all excited just yet. This is North Carolina, where human life has very little value in the court system. The first thing prosecutors will do is offer the always present plea bargain. In exchange for a guilty plea, the state will charge the lowest level offense that applies to these incidents and drop everything else. Then, they'll be sentenced to the least time as mandated by the sentencing guidelines. Just wait and see.
