Well done.... I hear this piece and I am reminded of the passing of mortal life and the ushering in of immortal life.... the crossing over that we all will do.... We go from this imperfect earth to heaven above where there is peace, perfection, and loved ones waiting to greet us.... That may seem macabre but who is to say or explain how one feels upon that last moment of life and crossing into eternity.... I think that the arrival into heaven is like those last massive chords followed by peace within your soul.... Doc.
Today (Nov 12th) is Remembrance Sunday and this very English music is often a cetrepiece on this day I have chosen to play it to remember and regret all those who died (ON BOTH SIDES) It is very emotional for me
Sehr schön interpretiert und improvisiert. Super gespielt. Liebliche Melodie und Klänge. ZArt und sanft. Wundervoll. Ich bin begeistert. Bitte wieder Noten senden 🌹🌹🌹❣❣❣🌹🌹🌹
What a superb piece of music , played magnificently.!! This is one of my all time favourite pieces to listen to on the organ. FUN FACT Edward Elgar who wrote this piece and he was also a supporter of my favourite football team Wolverhampton Wanderers in the English premier League. Wonderful stirring music Paul.!!
Hi Paul, WOW! What can I say, what a stunning rendition, and nice control of the vast dynamic range and beautiful acoustic! Bravo! And thank you for sharing! Take care John
Phenomenal.....the organ cry,me to. .very deep...merci for the religious emotion you do on me,but who are you?God is with you ii am sure....Bravo Philippe Dubois de Caen Normandie France i want this musique by you on the cavaille coll of Caen
One of my favorite pieces to play, you have a very keen artistic sense, beautifully done. I wonder if if there is a sample set of the Salt Lake Tabernacle organ in Salt Lake City, UT. in the USA??
Paul- been waiting for this one. It's not easy huh? You got the tempo spot on. I very much like Colin Davies' later orchestral performances for this. He completely nails the dynamics - and that is the critical bit. The p start and continued; the cresc coming much later to ff, then the outright drop to pp within a note or two at the end. The kill. There's the thing to read. Could say so much much more. To get an organ to deliver on this is a work of art. I have seen a remark that Colin Davies 'owned' Nimrod. Have a look. It inspires. What do you think......? Best. T.
Yup! As an organists we‘ve had it quite hard with this piece and the dynamics! I absolutely adore the recording of Davies - I listened to it many times beforehand, that was probably the inspiration for this recording 😀
@@PaulFey It's difficult in part pby because so often it is requested for that most intense moment ie a funeral - and we really want it as good as it can be. It's our contribution at that time. You'll know. Weddings too. Contribution factor high.Your research pays off. Inspiration etc. I will never forget a funeral at which there were no mourners - a homeless man. I was asked if I would play. As you might guess my role was 'unforgettable'. Still is. That's when we come face to face with why we are playing. We offer what we have. I guess I just say - 'I like what you offer' - not just your performance. Inspiration goes deep.
If I failed to comment on this beautiful performance, please forgive me! I could never play this in the orchestra without tears welling up; the whole piece is one of my favorite things. But I have to say that the reeds of this organ are not ideal for Elgar; it needs those dark but powerful Trombas!
@@PaulFey Yes, the Hauptwerk people need to do more work in the U.K.. I believe the Salisbury Cathedral "Father" Willis organ has been sampled, but if memory serves, it's quite expensive. (But there are Willis organs I like better.) There may be a few others. Can you imagine the fun that St. Paul's Cathedral would be, with all that reverb?!?!
@@RalphLooij I think it shines in places, but certain registrations (part. the fabled strings) sound very *synthetic* to me. Take for example Widor's Toccata in Piotr's own demonstration video and compare it to the recording of Johann Vexo playing it on the Orgues Cathédrale de Nancy channel; I suspect there are differences in the registration chosen, and the acoustic is a given, but the Hauptwerk demo just falls a bit short for me. That's not to say it's a bad sample set - on the contrary, lots of recordings released since Nancy have really impressed me; this is one of them.
Paul, you nailed this song! I have this organ sample set, and I love it. Great job, you feel the music when you play like me. Where did you get your console? Love it! I have two manual keyboards hooked up but no pedals yet.

One more comment Paul: look at the 'Edward Elgar Nimrod the hunter - funeral of Prince Philip'. At Windsor Castle. Brass and tears.

I'm still not *entirely* convinced by Nancy in all respects, but I can't argue that it shines with Nimrod. Fantastic performance as ever, Paul!
Which aspects don't convince you concerning the organ or sample set?
Thank you so much!! I‘ll post a full demo on it on Friday, maybe you this will help you deciding 😊 I can understand some aspects!
For me it would be the horrendous price and Ram-consumption I‘d say 😅

I've seen a lot of different Nimrod version arranged for organ. Which one is this/which one would you recommend?
I play the W.H. Harris arrangement. Stephen Buzard has a video on UA-cam of this arrangement and it's very good.
I‘ve used the organ version of Gouin from imslp - I‘m quite happy with it! 😊
You changed your stairway pictures. I don't recognize the little guy on the bottom.
Haha, yup! Did that some time ago I think 😀😊
Hi Paul- Q. If memory serves, the Nancy organ has 4 mainuals or is it 5? The question is on your two manual - which of the Nancy manuals did you assign to which of your two manuals?
He probably assigns them based on what the piece he is playing needs, you can switch back and forth pretty easily
I‘ve assigned the 1st and 2nd manual of Nancy to 1st on my organ and 3rd and 4th to my 2nd manual 😀 Works pretty well 😊
@@PaulFey isn’t the 3rd manual (bombarde) basically the reeds of the 2nd manual (great) ?
@@PaulFeyThanks Paul - loved the Nimrod too. - that is what I did with on my Rodgers 760 with the 4 manual Weigle organ of Nagold, Germany
@@PaulFey still not discovered the floating divisions option I suppose, far more easy to use!
