Don't worry,in Yakuza 9 we will probably learn that Kiryu survived and he lived peacefully at the orphanage or somewhere else. We are talking about a game where everything is possible and if Richardson and Lau Ka Long survived then Kiryu can survive too
That's an accurate portrayal of someone with cancer. Reminds me of my aunt, once cheerful and full of life become skin and bones, jaundiced but thankfully still has some sass left in her.
Watch the guy regain his health in 2028 and start busting heads again. Hell, we might even get Dragon Bar in Osaka

Take it this way. He finally start to have a will to live again with chemo and linac therapy. Yes, he looks so bad, but he is fighting for a chance to live a longer life and a chance to see his family and friends.
The torch has now been passed on to Ichiban, but damn, it truly has been a journey with Kiryu though.

FUCK. I almost cried seeing kiryu like this. ABSOLUTE pain…I knew he would retire from being the mc…but I didn’t want this- please let bro be happy in his (potentially) last days
Basically Old Snake, he is dying in a few months, but he is getting treatment because he wants to enjoy what little time he has left (just like Old Snake quits smoking at the end of MGS4), however, this is all we got regarding his reunion with Haruka and Haruto??? Its nice to see him reclaiming his name, or Haruto calling him "grampa", but not showing them interacting with each other feels almost sadistic, like they want us to see Kiryu only suffering.
I just hope RGG finally just let him rest in peace, everybody loves Ichiban, and this has been the fourth time we saw Kiryu "for the last time", to the point its starting to feel ike a freaking meme.
No "Gaiden 2", no guest appareance in Yakuza 9, just give the man a freaking break already...they can make Kiwami 3 or another remake of 1 (the franchise turns 20 next year) if they want to keep milking Kiryu, but when it comes to the story moving forward, just...leave him rest in peace. He earned it, and Ichiban already proved (twice) he can carry the franchise by himself.
If they wanted Kiryu to suffer they could've killed him off with no payoff, they only made him take the cancer treatment and live the rest of his life in peace. He'll probably appear in 9 while he's properly retired, and let him stay that way till he dies. Also, this wasn't the 4th time, this was the 2nd, they already said before Garden's release that IW will be Kiryu's last game as a playable character. I just wish they weren't so adamant about Ichiban carrying the series, he already captured our hearts in 7 with his kindness, why would they be so worried about him carrying the series forward on his own? Is it the old fans that weren't satisfied with 6's ending?
Kinda doubt they're gonna kill Kiryu. If they were going to do that I think now was the time to do it. I think he's probably going to be a supporting character in the next game, beat the cancer, and get a happy ending.
They could always go for the eastern medicine cures cancer route by having the hermit from judgment interact with kiryu

Although Kiryu is thin and look sickly due to chemotherapy, but his eyes exudes even more life than when he confessed that he had cancer with Ichiban and Eric. Much much more life, like his will to live returned and he want to fight to the end.
Imagine the real reason why Kiryu isn't in that room because he used another room knowing Majima could come crashing anytime. Haruka and Haruto were just in the wrong room.

It was stated in the Man who Erased his Name that the one thing Kiryu wants the most is to reunite with his kids. Not to mention that emotional scene he had about them in the end.

Theres no reason they couldnt give us a scene of Haruka and Kiryu reuniting. It couldve been a super emotional moment and one of the highlights of the game.

Seeing kiryu like that reminds me of solid snake. At mgs1 he was full of energy and then at mgs4 he is old af and at the bring of suicide. At least kiryu has sth that can be treated.
Imo I think Kiryu deserves a more happy ending considering this was the end of his story.

You know what is crazy? In a few years there is a chance of us seeing a grown up Haruto as a protagonist or as a companion for ichiban.
Of course i don't think that it will be something as Kiryu past affecting Haruto directly but it could be something else like Haruto as a young man going to Kamurocho and trying to become like his grandfather in the histories he heard about his youth from haruka and the others.
Trying to become a legendary fighter and through out the journey he goes through he starts to understand that his grandfather didn't do it for fame or glory but to protect the ones he loves.
Knowing learning it Haruto slowly becomes more mature and changes from a reckless delinquent to the image of a wise guy that only fights to protect himself or others.

@@zechariah8802 Chemotherapy can really fuck a person up. My mom's had to go through it twice, and while she's recovered, we have to be far more mindful of risks when doing things we've long enjoyed doing together.
I'm honestly hoping we never see Kiryu again, if only to hold onto the hope that he was able to miraculously overcome his cancer like my mom did and finally get his happy ending, even if we can't be there to savor it.
You dont even see them in the same room. It really pissed me of. But i thought the whole daidoji plot, was a misstake. And the cancer thing. The writers sure want kiryu to suffer.

concept for a new LAD brawler title- Like a dragon Reborn a game where you play as a teenaged haruto or young adult haruto in which kiryus past comes to haunt his family in which he has to find the secret of his grandfather kiryu kazuma this title will return to the brawler gameplay with a few twist like zero haruto will have four combat styles his main one being a modern style based off akiyama's as i believe akiyama would teach him to defend himself with all the shit he's been through with kiryu fighting style with a modern twist with cranes speed as haruto would be the youngest RGG protagonist its shown in his styles his second style Golden dragon would be a mix of kiryu"s yakuza 0 DOD with Ryuji goda's fighting style twist counter included
his third style koi nishiki's fighting style would focus on parrying and with this style he can kick or repel projectiles and his fourth fighting style silver dragon harutos own fighting style based on stories from haruka on how his grandfather fought

Never been more disappointed in RGG. They knew everyone wanted to see the reunion between Kiryu and his kids, yet they teased it multiple times throughout the game with no payoff at the end. Will probably be my last yakuza game because of this.
There are many reasons why they had to make that decision.
First of all because of Daidoji who keeps tab around Kiryu so he won't appear to his old friends as when they decided to kidnap and torture Date, they warned Kiryu to not mess around and reminded him that he still dead to the world.
Second, the damage of rumors, due to the doxxing of Kiryu from Tatara which widespread through the country about his survival, Kiryu cannot keep himself from public which damaging the company that Daigo and Watase created as the rumors about Tojo clan revival are spreaded like wildfire.
Third, Kiryu are a little bit of a coward, he seldom to expressing himself to the others because of many things including the deaths of 2 friends that cares for him in Y1, he always work alone so nobody will be harmed and he always keeping everything on arms length and then push it away when he needs it.
As for the old acquaintances, some of them decided to keep Kiryu hidden in their hearts knowing that he "died" so they safe from harm. During events in Y6, Daidoji faction even able to manipulate the laws to kidnap Haruka under the orders from Tsuneo which proven to be the danger to everyone around Kiryu even if they able to defend themselves. If Kiryu take the money in Y6, Tojo will be on rampage because of Kiryu getting shot and Daigo won't be released from prison so nobody will take care of the rampaging Tojo.

I think they ruined his story since the ending of Y6, then on Gaiden they shove me in the face with the absolute absurdity of that decision and its horrendous consequences, only for Kiryu to still be ok with that dumbass decision. And here he keeps making the same mistake of not wanting to see his kids even though the ending of Gaiden was all about how he missed them a lot.
Just finished it today and i'm so annoyed with this post credit scene. Zero explanation as to the kiryu/daidoji standing. Did they just officially release him and they are just hoping he'll keep their secrets?
And then on top of that we don't actually get the haruka reunion??? This sucked ass...

Do you really expect that the Daidoji won't off Date after doing all those for Kiryu? Pretty obvious that the people that Kiryu comfortably revealed his identity doesn't know about his rich Yakuza history (Yuki and the PCS guy) while Akiyama is an exception since he's Akiyama.

They can met actually, Daidoji already released Kiryu from their shackles because of Kiryu is sick and he already took care of the damage caused by Ebina and Bryce. The nameplate on the bed is Kiryu Kazuma and not Taichi Suzuki which implied that Daidoji granting a "True Resurrection" of Kiryu so he can be with his beloved in his final moments before his death.

cant help but dislike most of direction this game took, yakuza 6 was his swan song and skipped almost all characters past tiny cameos like majima and daigo.... then GAIDEN actualy looked like good farewel game is around the corner and now this- 1 character per game basically and most of the times its 5 minutes max cutscene with kyriu hiding in next room... GOD they dropped the ball on this im sorry but they did

As if the story was only the Kiryu segments. This is a perfect concussion of Kiryu's arc in my opinion too, for all the games he has thought his life wasn't worth anything, in this game he finally learns how to live. You don't need a shitton of cameos just to do that. Gaiden was only a taste of that.

Story isn't as good as some of the last few entries, but it's nowhere near as bad as Yakuza 4's was
It felt like RGG is setting up another possible spin off for Kiryu with so many loose ends. I hope he gets the reunion he deserves and with a good send off when the time comes.
Man, Haruka's scenes outside Y1 suck. Also, who da fuq these Y5+ style boring drama scenes that develop nothing and have nothing to do with the whole premise of the franchise i.e. yakuza. The portrayal of other gangster organizations does not work because the storyboard writer has always been too hasty and eager to kill them off to have a fake, lame, forced happy ending. I don't think it is a good idea to kill the most interesting premise of the series like that. Yakuza 4 was the last one with believable Yakuza presence. They went as far as to kill off Tojo clan as a yakuza organization. Ichiban as a half-baked old-school yakuza is a nice idea, though he's still less of a yakuza than Kiryu was at the start of Yakuza 0. They used Shinada to explore J-Drama at the end of Y5 and now it is all that.
