    My mom used part yard soil and then added soil and dead leaves from the woods close by. Always added barn yard manure also. She had a green thumb!

    Thank you for sharing this good information. Would you use potting soil for extra large pots also?

      Thank you for watching it for your comment and question. Yes, you can use party soil for extra large pots. There is a trick that pros use where are you don’t fill the entire pot with Soil, rather you fill the bottom with packing peanuts or other lightweight material, cover it with gardening fabric and then fill in with Soil.
      Here’s a video of mine that shows the technique

      Haha always funny!
      Yes you can add red wigglers to the soil they will help to aerate the soil. They also function in the biological circle by consuming organic matter and excreting nutrients into the soil!

    Why can you use dirt and amend it, adding fertilizer, peat moss or coir and perlite or vermiculite?🌷💚🙃

    • @EdenMakers
      @EdenMakers  2 роки тому

      Hi Judy, This is not a simple answer. Are you asking if you can use native soil from the ground and add specific amendments or fertilizers to it and use it as a potting soil?

    • @judymckerrow6720
      @judymckerrow6720 2 роки тому +1

      @@EdenMakers basically yes 🌷💚🙃

    • @EdenMakers
      @EdenMakers  2 роки тому

      Hi Judy, Thank you for clarifying.
      I don’t recommend it for a few reasons.
      1. Native soil from the ground tends to be heavy and not provide adequate drainage even when you add perlite or vermiculite.
      2. Unknown soil pH. The pH value of soil is important as it helps a plant root take up nutrients.
      3. Native soil can work for certain plants (for instance plants that need heavy soil and are placed in a pond).
