It's not that original and the deepest movie ever (basically "Notting Hill" with an age gap twist), but I love that they made an effort to flesh out these characters and make us care and root for their relationship, which is the bare minimum for a successful romance regardless of the source material. Just a feel-good, wholesome date movie. Edit: Anne Hathaway is CARRYING this movie on her back ughh she's just such a great actress.
She really was HAHA that’s our academy award winner!!!
There are references to “Notting Hill” in the movie. 😉
Both Anne and Nicholas have played royals in previous projects, funnily enough, her in The Princess Diaries, and him in Red, White and Royal Blue, and Girlboss Cinderella.
We don't talk about that Cinderella movie 😬😂
@@BeeKee404 The better one is Ella Enchanted
When she’s telling the story of finding out her husband was having an affair and everyone at the table went silent cause they knew about it… girl if that was me I would’ve stood up and thrown drinks in everyone’s faces idc
that man was so tremendously down bad and for a good reason!!! and the yearniiiiing Nicholas Galitzine is so good at playing down bad men lol
The tattoos are so funny, I remember my best friend and me clowning Harry’s “random” tattoos when we were younger bc he got so many weird ones!
Right after I said that, I remembered that Harry’s tattoos were also pretty random 😂 but at least a lot of his had **some** thought for the placements
THANK YOU for pointing out the difference that Daniel is a cheaterrrr and Solene is not! I kept getting so annoyed when people were comparing Solene to her ex just because they both date younger people. Like why are we not focusing on the fact that cheating is a big issue.
While I understand that it's a romantic drama, and the leads would eventually find a way back to each other, the novel's ending was more realistic. Solene and Hayes break up permanently, though it's implied that she never really gets over him. Author Robinne Lee was reportedly displeased with the changed ending.
Yeah I read up on all the changes they made, and I think the book ending makes more sense with the book (Hayes is even younger, Izzy is like 12, etc.). Tbh I wasn’t invested enough to care if they stayed together or not hahaha
I saw so many people angry over the novel's ending because it's marketed as a love story. I agree in thinking that that ending is more realistic. Especially as I believe in the book the age gap between them is even bigger.
@@Jennilynne It's 20 years in the book. He's 20, she's 40. So if they cast the movie accurately to that, someone like actor Louis Partridge (who is 20) would have played Hayes.
I liked the movie, but it definitely has a very different feel to the book. In the book, he's the one who makes a point to follow her to art events, rather than her going on tour with the band. He tries to learn more about art. It's a really important part of her story that her ex-husband never showed an interest in her work, whereas Hayes tries to understand and appreciate her passion. That’s how she moves from seeing their relationship as just a fling, to falling in love with him. He also fucks things up several times by doing things like hauling her out of an important art show, and that highlights their different levels of emotional maturity.
I liked the film too, but I think it would be better if they hadn't sacrificed this part of the story. Now we just get "two beautiful people fall in love because reasons". It would've been so easy to just include a little scene where he walks past a piece of art and correctly identifies the artist, to show us (and her) how much effort he's putting in.
It's a fun movie, but it's just missing a bit of the depth that would've made it a great movie.
Another interesting dynamic is that artists can be attracted to a muse. And that can get crazy complicated because for some artists, having a muse that inspires their artistic creativity will trump all other dynamics. They kind of explored that a little bit, and you touched on it with your witty speculation about him going solo with her as his support. These kinds of relationships (or situationships), good or bad, are amazing to explore in film and literature because they can defy all logic and reason. And that's so very human :)
The fact he is actually turning 30 this year, makes it seem way better for me 😅😂😂 I loved him since Cinerdella 2021 🤣🤣
The movie was way better than the book. In the book Hayes was SA'd by his bandmates older sister but it was completely overlooked. Solene didn't think to tell him to get therapy and not be in a relationship. And then later on in the book when his rapist came to visit Solene didn't call her out but was instead jealous and saw her as "the blueprint" for Hayes infatuation for older women. It's just another example of male SA'd victims not being taking seriously.
The book is so messed up and the characters are awful. Honestly wish I could delete it from my brain!
That’s si messed up of Selene to be jealous of the rapist being the “blueprint” of Hayes’s type that’s just selfish wtfff
@@fatoumatacisse3796 The fact that Anne Hathaway read this book and thought it was good is just messed up IMO
23:25 Ngl that's where this movie kinda lost me. Like I was fully on board with Anne’s character living her best life being flown around Europe and hooking up with a younger guy u know something cute and fun for the summer but suddenly this movie wants me to think their relationship is so deep that they tell family and close friends about each other??? Like I thought this was a hot woman summer??
RIGHT? Like if they’re gonna have a deep connection, include more scenes with them connecting!!! Otherwise it’s a summer fling 😂
@@SophiaPhannn Literally sounds like most of the movie was just sex scenes and concert scenes (like the book) - no deep conversations or character/relationship development
10:28 this level of down bad is actually insane lol, like Don Massimo had more tact, and he straight up kidnapped a girl.
Yo the one direction-isms are KILLING ME. First the concert had me thinking because it’s almost identical to one i used to watch on here. BUT THE MUSIC VIDEO! I’m convinced it’s the Best Song Ever (or something) MV.
I needed to get that off my chest because I’m lowkey fan girling inside
As I turned 40 last year watching this was... Interesting lol. Frankly I'm not sure how I'd feel if someone that young was coming on to me so strong like that. Like sir... Are you lost?
I remember when One Direction started being famous around 2012/2013, Harry Styles started having random tattoos on his body. That’s why that actor that played Harry got all those tattoos 😂
fun fact: hayes was actually izzy's favorite in the book which makes the stakes even higher when she found out her mom was basically dating her crush. i'm not sure why they changed that in the movie
Nicholas Galitzine was taken by surprise in his casting of “The Idea of You” when after only one audition with star and producer Anne Hathaway, he landed the role of boy band frontman Hayes Campbell, the audition is after '''Purple Hearts'' come out and while Nick was filming "Red White and Royal Blue " According to Anne ,Nick just got everything she want for Hayes, even more ,he definitely nailed it in chemistry read, after filming tioy they become a really good friends too
His Last Name goes like (Magazine) Nicholas Galitzine
having watched the movie before reading the book I definitely prefer the movie, i think Solene & Hayes' relationship in the book was too toxic and volatile and was driven more by lust than love, it's no wonder they could not make their relationship work in the book. But I feel in the movie their relationship is less toxic and more healthy and wholesome and genuine & organic, and more convincing, I can believe that they truly do love each other and be able to make their relationship work in the movie. It's obvious they love each other so much & were so miserable without each other, after everything they've been through they deserve their happy ending and I'm glad they reunited 5 years later. The fact that Hayes is older in the movie also helps, it makes their age gap less awkward and more acceptable. I also prefer all the characters in the movie more, they made Solene, Hayes and Izzy more likable and I like that Izzy is not a brat and was alot more supportive of their relationship than in the book. And of course the chemistry between Anne and Nick is great, I think they really made this movie watchable & enjoyable for most people. I like all the changes they made in the movie, IMO the movie is an improvement from the book.
The book is SO bad. I just don’t understand anyone who could read the book and think - ‘what an amazing romance story, it would be such a good movie’. Like what?
Solene was very pathetic at various points, the way she judged younger women so much (including her own daughter). Such a pathetic character, and we're suppose to root for these selfish people and their cringey "romance"? It's not a romance, it's an FWB relationship.
And Hayes... couldn't like him at all. Especially the way he dismissed the creepy behaviour of his band mates: “I cannot have that girl’s DNA in my hotel room. I don’t know what happened with Simon and Liam, and I love them like brothers, but I cannot get involved.” He doesn't care about all the women they mess around with. I at least hope he got some STDs as karma. (And I feel bad for Harry Styles being represented in this way.)
I watched this because I am an Anne Hathaway simp. And I simped hard.
4:32 I guess I can see it. They're both attractive so I'll take it 😂
Honestly I'll watch anything Anne Hathaway is in. To me, she can make any good or bad movie a fun time which is why I didn't hate the 2020 The Witches movie. It was a bad movie but I had fun watching Anne as the Grand High Witch. I also did enjoy her in this movie.
33:39 The only thing interesting about "Anyone but you", was how they showed the relationship, between how a man would feel taken advantage of he shares his emotional vulnerability too early, and how a woman would feel taken advantage of when she shares her physical vulnerability too early. Other than that, it was a mid movie. The movie got carried because of how attractive Sydney Sweeney is.
Still haven't found a rom com that can challenge Crazy Stupid Love, as my number one comfort movie.
I feel like it really should have ended with them both moving on to something else after both learning something about what they needed in life. Also maybe spending a week or two at some luxury resort just banging it out.
Good movie! I enjoyed! ❤
Crazy chemistry and amazing soundtrack 👏His vocals are so good
The Idea of You is so cliche but in the best possible way!!
There has been a shortage of good romance movies lately and this is a solid entry.
This Nicholas Galitzine lad is really hot and gorgeous 🥵He does have impeccable charisma
Just finished the movie minutes ago! The coincidence 😂 Love your vids and commentary ❤
HAHA we’re on the same wavelength 🧠⚡️🧠
Anne does not age, I’m jealous 😂
She ages so gracefully 😍
@@SophiaPhannnI was recently watching her in one day because of the Netflix adaptation and I swears she looks younger now. I don’t get it lol
I was literally just fangirling over how stunning Anne looked during this entire movie. THIS WOMAN DOES NOT AGE. Also, why is Nicholas acc so mf fine-
I feel related to Sophia when she can't remember/pronounce Nicholas last name. I'm not alone, because I always read "Gasoline" instead "Galitzine", probably because English is my second language and I have a lisp in both of the languages that I speak (Portuguese & English), however saying his last name is still embarrassing 💀💀💀💀
Sophia must have felt my need for a fix. I'm a addict of her channel and it's the only addiction my parents want me to have 💯 👍🏿👍🏿
The healthiest addiction you could have!
love the clubchalemet slander
Every tweet I see from that account is so funny to me HAHA it’s serious for her 😂
@@SophiaPhannn IT REALLY IS it’s so funny. she even invested stocks in multiple movie companies because he had movies under them
Same move dropping at the same time with Rebecca Rose. Twinsies haha. I've had the movie on my watchlist, so I'll come back after giving it a watch first.
Rebecca’s and my minds 🤝🏼
ngl.. the movie idea is so dumb BUT the actors rly carried the show like ... if anyone else was in this movie, it just wouldn't slap
I love watching your reactions because sometimes I just pause the video and actually respond to you lol this is my comfort zone ❤
Omg I love that 🥹🫶🏼
Just seeing his earring all I’m thinking is if dylanisintrouble watches this movie he’s going to complain 😭😭
hi troublemaker 😭❤️
Lol, exactly. I love his Cinderella 2021 reaction
Just when I was looking for a video to work on an art project to-- Sophia to the rescue!!! (Sorry, I haven't started watching the vid yet, I just had to comment because I never catch your uploads this soon lol you rock and I'm always happy to see a notif for your channel! thanks for being you ^^)
Hehehe thanks for supporting me 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼
I liked the movie. It’s pretty good to include social media in a different type of way in a movie
Proud to be the first to comment >:)
Currently my fav UA-cam channel
Omg ME?? 🥹🫶🏼 thank you I’m honored 💕💕
Actually it was filmed in Atlanta and they made it look like Coachella pretty amazing how they did that.
I actually DIED at the Scunthorpe mention! My partner is from there. He is right 😂😂😂
I really enjoyed this film. The songs are so good, plus the acting is good.
Great movie ❤amazing chemistry and actors , solid soundtrack , this man can sing👏Nicholas u r a real gem, can’t wait for his future project 😊
As someone that...let's say...recently, turned 40, 9:08 is like 90% true.
🥲🥲🥲 nooooo
@@SophiaPhannn This physically hurts me to say but, you'll understand when you're my age.
i love how all the commentary I have watched are like it's ANNE HATHAWAY! like....
Hi Sophia love your vids! And because I love your channel I would like to recommend some movies! Eurovision the story of fire saga, the roommate, suicide squad, dark shadows and the 5th wave! These are some awesome movies and you'll love em!!! ❤❤❤
I love your videos so much sophia
Thank you 🥹🫶🏼
17:18 the self awareness check 😂😂
Please do a cindella story
9:50 depends on what kind of friends? some are just waiting in the wings to get with you
I agree. Was it necessary for AH to have top billing?
I dislike that everyone has comparisons. I think it's best to see things fresh, new. See the actors and the plot as a "new" happening. Too many comparisons dilutes the originality of the movie.
I really enjoyed your review. You are fun, real life and aware. I shall watch you again.
I love your follow-up on the content. Bravo....
I agree with you about romance chemistry here. They did their best but i feel that Nick was more sincere in the acting "real" department. He looked very young in the early part of the video for obvious delivery and very mature (5) years later. As an actor he is very serious in his roles. I will be following him for sure.
PS: people need to focus on the "love" and not on the gender, age, timing....
Would love to see you react to Young Sherlock Holmes
No one has ever reacted to it before
All hail the movie watching Queen
Who wouldn't love those bracelets
You should be watching the migration movie
10:48 as an artist some people have flirted with me by saying they really liked my work and wanted to buy it... and that's genuinely worked on me😅😵💫
Love you and your comments 🥰
I really think you would like 'My Policeman' because you liked 'Red White & Royal Blue' and I would love to see your reaction 😍
Just wanna say that this is not based off of a real fanfiction-turned-book! It was always a published book, loosely inspired by Harry Styles or just marketed that way
Watch the good son pls
26:24 never understood this narrative, like Leonardo DiCaprio gets called out basically every other day, I'm pretty sure Demi moore and Sam Taylor-Johnson didnt get as much flak as DiCaprio does.
Nah ppl HATE Sam Taylor-Johnson, but it’s warranted because she knew Aaron Taylor-Johnson since he was a kid 😬
Wait he does look like Hook lol
He doesn't pronounce his name Timothy? TIL. Agreed, Anne looks tremendous in the clips you showed.
And if he becomes a bigger star in the 5 years (a) they'll have "fuck you" money, and (b) her daughter won't be a high schooler and be quite as subject to attack? I dunno. I don't think "wait for me" is a valid strategy in anything though.
i felt uncomfortable ngl
Is this another one loosely based on Harry Styles? That man must be getting so tired lol
First Cindy and then you dropping reactions to this? Stopp
No wonder it didn’t have the talent of turning red Billie eilish and fineas don’t make the music
