These 2 expansion teams got down to business really fast. In the 96 playoffs the Panthers knock off the defending SB champion Cowboys, and the Jaguars knocked off the #1 seed in the AFC Broncos.
These the first expansion teams that free agents was available. Both teams still did it right for both to be in the conference championships the next year.
I remember watching this game. I live just east of Charlotte. I was 23 at the time and about to get married. My future wife and I went to the Panthers/Falcons game later in 1995 down at Clemson. That game was a thriller. Panthers won after trailing initially and it made for a great trip back home. Wish I could find that game on UA-cam but all I've found is highlights. Have to say RIP to Sam Mills. ✝️
The thing I will never forget about this game was not only was this the VERY first game that the Jags and Panthers played, but in the HOF induction, you had Lee Roy Selmon and Steve Largent enshrined, who were the first enshrinees of the Buccaneers and Seahawks, who were the PREVIOUS two expansion teams in 1976. It was almost like it was meant to be
“Jacksonville is coached by Tom Coughlin who could’ve had the Giants’ job two years ago…” Little did we know that once he went to NYG, he would beat Brady in the Super Bowl twice.
I was 16 and this game was on Saturday where I was usually out with my friends but being from Carolina I wasn't missing this one. I'm a die hard RAIDER but I was happy for this area to have a football team here.
2023 week 17,Bryce Young and the Carolina Panthers face Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars. Congratulations to the Carolina Panthers for the 20-14 victory in the 1995 NFL Hall Of Fame game. KEEP POUNDING!!!
My proposed NFL realignment would send the Steelers to the AFC East, Colts and Chiefs to the AFC North, Panthers and Dolphins to the AFC South, Texans to the AFC West, Ravens to the NFC East, and Cowboys to the NFC South. This would make both 1995 expansion teams division rivals as the Jaguars are also in the AFC South.
I'd much rather put the Ravens in the NFC East. The Colts as a Baltimore team never had division rivalries with the Giants, Eagles, or as they are called now, the Commanders because prior to the AFL-NFL merger, they were in the Western Conference while the other three were in the Eastern Conference. I want the Ravens to be able to have these rivalries, especially now that all Sunday afternoon games will be free agents TV wise starting 2023 and can keep the Ravens and Commanders on separate networks every week except when playing each other or if one is on a bye week.

What if, instead of Green Bay and New England, Carolina and Jacksonville played in Super Bowl XXXI? 🤔
I was at this game. Tickets were like 25 dollars.
Felt like 100 degrees out. 27 years ago. Crazy.
Sat in the grassy field in the corner end zone and I remember it was extremely humid as well...the stadium also ran out of water.

I was 16 and a die hard RAIDER but being from Carolina I was super excited to see this. I put off hanging out with my friends to see it.
Do you have the Jags/Panthers reg. season game from 1996?
Although it's a preseason game, it was cool to see 2 new expansion teams pit against each other in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game.
And to think they came close to playing against one another in the Super Bowl a season later!!
