I'm glad he didn't totally abandon the Gimp 🎉
Nice.
I am finally to the point where I need a photo editor, and have started using GIMP.
Got a lot to learn! But I will learn that which I need.
Hello Chris,
I have been watching your tutorials with growing enthusiasm for a week now. I switched from Windows to Linux and so came to Gimp and Darktable. My first experiences in image editing I gained in Photoshop CS5, CS6 and Lightroom. What I like most about your videos is that you explain the tools of the programs in detail, and don't skip over them. I think you deserve more clicks and comments under your videos! I am already looking forward to more videos from you.
With best regards from Germany
Mic 🙂
PS: Do you happen to know if a tool like the repair brush in Photoshop is planned in Gimp 3.0?
Excellent teaching. I also use GIMP and have written the best-selling book on it. So far, your channel is my fav GIMP learning channel.
So excited to see GIMP improve alongside Inkscape and Scribus.
Subscribed! Thank you!
I get so excited when a new version's coming down the pike. 🎈🍾🎆🤘
I really love you videos. You can see the effort you put into creating a concise and easy to understand video in which you describe and demonstrate the operations and tools of Gimp. Great Job.
Great! Thank you, man.
Multiple layer selection is what I've been hoping for, I can't wait
Thank you for continuing your tutorials on gimp!!!
It is a reupload and quite old.
Right yesterday I've wondered if Gimp would have adjustment layers, how cool it would be. And today in your video I see they have it in mind to implement once in the future. Good news, thank you.
Indeed, adjustment layers look cool !
I don't use gimp that often, but all this is really good news !
Awesome update! I just started using Affinity photo, but I've always been curious about gimp does it has a pen tool?
Yes
I can't wait for 3.0!
Great news for adj. layers. Finally.
But I hope sometimes to see "quick selection tool", like we have it in Photoshop
Thanks ☺️

This affirmed by decision to bail on GIMP and switch to Affinity Photo 2, since it was only $40, already has all the important features, and is actively being developed.
OH YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FINALLY!!!!! ! ! ! !YES YES YES!
'Non-destructive' should primarily make it possible to work with a kind of smart objects, e.g. allowing upsizing of a downsized pixel area without any quality loss - i.e. without being dependent of history.
It's September 2024, and Gimp 3.0 has still not been released. So, apparently a real non-destructive system is years out in the future.
Gimp waves goodbye while Affinity Photo 2 says hello ;O)
layer adjustment in current version of GIMP is like gambling. Total pain in the ass tbh. But i wish in GIMP 3, they bring one truly feature i really want, which is smart guide. Using percentage to aligning ruler is insanity.
great news that adjustment layers comes to live ... stay tuned
The Resynthesizer tool needs to be included as well. This third party plugin that one has to go find and install is really annoying.
thanke you
Welcome 😊
Would be nice if gimp added the add on that krita has.
Gimp 3.0 is almost here..... LOL!
1 year on, and we'll be lucky if it gets released at it's intended April date, and if it will move on from 2004 to 2011 technology with a 2012 UI.
I don't see you contributing anything to the project to have any say on what goes on there. *Sips straw* You are free to go pay adobe if you like?
I just wish FFT and IFFT were core functions, so I wouldn't have to rely on flaky plug-ins (for Mac).
d ui needs to be darker .. with darker shades of grey 👍
Ehh... I tried GIMP. I gave up after I couldn't figure out how to move a layer with the move tool, it kept grabbing another layer that was on top of the that. I assume there is a way to do it buried deep within a menu, but it makes me think that no graphic designers worked on the UI design.
You first select the layer you want to operate on, then perform the operation with the tool.
For some tools you select the layer by first selecting the tool, then clicking on the layer within the image. For others you do it by selecting the later from the layer widget/list.
Feature n. 6 is only a surprise or a long time desire for Windows users.
Try Linux instead.
....... and I thought you were going to say "Smart Layers" after the drum roll.
Uh, that was 6 new features coming to GIMP 3.0. #7 was only for 3.2.
7 years I wait this ....
Yeah, and? Did you contribute anything to the project? If no then stfu. If yes then... Stfu.
loquillo
0:13 2020 :!
It's 2023 now.. And still we do not have ver 3.0.. :(
@@kenrock2 the fact that maybe even 3.0 won't be that great is what concerns me more....
One feature I would like to have in Gimp would be a built-in image background remover.
Where gimp automatically removes the background by itself.
Even by doing it completely manually it's not always clear what is background and what is not; for example a chair where a person is sitting on, or a crowd of multiple persons.
Maybe someone is willing to make a half-smart extension for it instead.
Nah im still checking out.
So basically the only usefull update is to select multiple layers. In 2024 impressive really..
No proper text tool, quick selection, adjustment layer..
Why would anyone donate to them?
I'm kind of feeling the same way. The most amazing thing about GIMP is that it's survived this long. Hopefully 3.0 will bring some new users who will be more open to donating. I still have not donated but only because I find the current version unusable. GIMP needs a revolution.
That's the problem. People like you whine and complain but never contribute to the project. Maybe if people started contributing they would be able to get more help to add said features. Until then continue to stfu.
So 7 years to 3.0 and another 10 years to 3.2 (adj-layers) wtf....
I've never seen a slower dev cycle, Is it just 1 guy ?!?
Have you contributed? I am willing to bet you haven't. So your say is invalid.
@@Derpingtonshere No Moron, I've contributed to Blender, for creating a usable toolset and not lying about it for a Decade !!!
