- What a fantastic roller coaster ride this weekend at Escort Rally Special 2023.
This event touches the heart of everyone who loves motorsport and especially rear wheel drive Escorts.
An atmosphere you could cut with a knife and stages to turn boys into men.
And that’s what happened this weekend Christopher O Callaghan has always been fast but it was a joy to see him put in such a mature performance with J.J. Cremin by his side. A boy becoming a man in front of our very eyes and I mean that in the best possible way.
The rally itself was a tough test on man and machine.
Super special on Saturday night was a bit of a disaster for us as being car no 1 we started last. Numerous delays meant we started in the dark with severe dust so it was pure survival.
16 overall and 34 seconds off the lead was tough to take but shit happens.
Angry Frank went at it the next morning for the rally proper on a wing and a prayer and we caught everyone napping on the first stage and started to claw back time.
By mid day we found ourselves in the lead and tried to maintain that but Chris and JJ who had lead after the super special had other ideas.
They struggled early on with a misfire but once cured they came at us with all guns blazing.
It was as good a battle as I’ve been in for many a year and one I will remember for a long time. Lauren and I pushed baby blue who was back in top form as hard as we could but inevitably Frank did what Frank does and I over shot a junction, dropped 10 seconds and that was the turning point.
We kept the pressure on but the lads had the measure of us and took the win by 9 seconds.
Hugely deserved victory for the whole O’Callaghan family with Ed and Kaine taking 8th O/A after a puncture and Hazel and Keith taking 10th O/A.
Has to be one for the record books right there.
I must say a huge heartfelt thank you for the support we received all weekend.
Pure happiness is all we could see as people filled the service area all day.
It amazes me that a rally that only allows one make of car can pull this off and deservedly receives such support.

Another great video, thanks for taking us along. Lauren is my favorite co-driver to listen to, ever. I swear if she posts videos reading the phone book I'll watch every one! You should make the "Frank Doing Frank Things" shirt as a collage of pics of bent Baby Blue and broken parts. I'll buy the first one. All the World of Outlaws sprint car drivers have awesome shirts, started in the '80s. One guy about '90 had a run of bad luck and was in a bunch of wrecks. He had his shirts made with the car bent to shit and upside down, hanging from the catch fence. Probably the best selling sprint car shirt of all time.

These are excellent vlogs, I'm having a blast following these. Truly appreciate the commentaries in between the some stages and also the mix of onboard footage with the footage from other channels showing the view from the spectator side. I gotta be honest, RWD was never my thing as I prefer AWD, but you guys handle that Ford beautifully and such a close perspective on driving with your RWD Ford gives me a great viewing experience with it. You guys make it look easy and smooth, but in really I know you're pushing and a minor mistake can mean a crash! In fact just the slight incident with a few marker poles left some damage on the car as was clearly visible by the end of the stage #ouch! and #FrankDoingFrankThings :)
The celebration at the end is awesome, you can feel the values of the community there. And, btw, is that two women co-pilots I see?, AWESOME!
Also, it's so cool to see father and daughter on all of this, and participating very competitively as well. #SuperStar . Cheers and I hope to see you guys on many more videos! Good luck!

Lauren. Do you think a GPS in front of you would help you guys also? You could about Mark it to your pages also. Like a backup. Maybe yellow screen in slippery areas, a red screen at a 90 or something, so your dads eye can notice the color change. You could almost hook it up to a go pro, as fast as you guys are, and just replay your track test, and then speed it up. Just an idea. Just trying to help. Frank. Pirelli's seem good. Good roost to.
Few problems with that Tom.
Firstly Frank has one brain cell and it’s overloaded at the best of times. Hence the many repeated Pacenotes 😂.
2nd, you’ll find GPS lags a fair bit and struggles to keep up at speed.
3rd, a lot of the roads we rally on are very narrow country roads and aren’t accurately shown on GPS.
