This always happens with Shins tracks - you listen to it for the first time and it's pretty good....a few days pass and you find you've played on repeat several thousand times. Bravo!
know what's better? Having gone to school in England with James and relating to all of it personally. The line about the shoes always cracks me up. I'll always appreciate him turning me on to better music in theatre class.
Oh my god... At 3 and 6 years old I had to leave the states again. My dad was also stationed at that RAF base they called Mildenhall (from 93-94 & 96-98). Incredibly weird coincidence considering The Shins are one of the influential bands that collectively made me to decide to pursue music. I had no idea that James had that sort of upbringing as well. #TheShins #JamesMercer #MusicGems
Heartworms has grown on me more and more over the past year as I have listened to it again and again. Some of the songs may not be instantly catchy but give them time and you will be able to appreciate the craft at work here. Mildenhall, Fantasy Island, Heartworms, The Fear, Painting a Hole and Rubber Ballz are right amongst the band's bests.
@Mysterious Master Yoshi I shat in Mildenhall, so it's so weird to hear lyrics about a place where I left a piece of me behind. Brings a tear to the eye.
My favorite track off the new album. I am totally digging the lower toned vocals on this tune. Nice to hear different ranges from you, James! This one really works! Beautiful work, one of my favorite songs by you in years!
Wow. This is fucking brilliant. Some of the best lyrics I have ever heard by James. Moving, simple, storytelling. A really nice window into his young life, that we can all sort of relate too. At least I can. And the steel drums during the chorus are fucking brilliant, what an odd but clever choice. Bravo.
Hitesh K I think Wincing is their best, most complete work till now. It's hard to fathom why did people complaint about them getting generic when it came out. This sounds absolutely brilliant , the new album is going to be amazing.
I love this tune, this video, and The Shins. Have any of you ever been to see them live? I've seen them twice and both times people were talking through the whole show. It was infuriating. Still a good show though.
This one is my "i’ll think about it" song. Also love that he mention The Jesus & Mary chain, I discovered the band when I was his age, but in that was in 2005 ish when I was 15-16 years old. I know people always say this, but literally simpler times, in my case anyway.
If you're considering a Wes Anderson binge, don't forget "The Royal Tenenbaums" and "The Darjeeling Limited." They're both excellent and funny movies (Anderson's variety of funny). "Rushmore" is also a solid movie by him. "Bottle Rocket" is another quirky and amusing movie by Anderson (starring brothers Luke and Owen Wilson). I'm a big fan of Anderson and I like all of his movies as you might have already figured out.
I do business with the Veterinary Practice that serves the US service staff at Mildenhall RAF base. I can only imagine what is was like for a 15 year old to come to Mildenhall from the US: culture shock!!
I was listening to the song and thinking I had the same experience as him as a Canadian living there when young.. then he drops the fact that it was the same Corn Exchange venue I would go to near Cambridge. Wild.
I am in love all over again. You guys rock (the shins), too bad you can't come out with new albums every three (or a week realistically) just so that I can have sustained happiness. Or is it happyness, does it freaking matter, as long as I have it?
Has a real folk style to it. The lyrics are ripped straight out of his youth, and tell the story of how he grew to love music. He sings in a lower register, which some people aren't used to, but he is reaching his late 40s, and hitting those high notes night after night becomes a task. I notice he switches to falsetto in more spots as he ages, instead of just belting out the high ones like the beginning of the song, kissing the lipless. How I truly hate time, and how things have to age..though it brings wisdom, it also waters down some of our brightest qualities.
This is a band I freaking love….then they don’t release things for a bit. I still know I love them, but don’t think about them for a bit. Then randomly hear a song again, then are instantly reobsessed with… I know that didn’t make sense
This always happens with Shins tracks - you listen to it for the first time and it's pretty good....a few days pass and you find you've played on repeat several thousand times. Bravo!
Feel the same.. is there an explanation?

Tom Davis confirmed ⚡️

Nice song, I actually live in Mildenhall, Have done so for the past 30 years and i can confirm the cobbled streets are indeed hard to skate on,
This song is wildly underrated
Finally someone who knows what underrated means haha. People be posting on some 50 mil view track like "So underrated" haha
Excellent lyrics as usual...I love that he tells a story in every song he has, some metaphorical, and some literal like this one. Beautiful.
If I'm not mistaken this is the story of how james got into music ... loving it
And that’s how we get to where we are now
Everyone has a story of how they started to play music… I love this song
I love how autobiographical it is. Feels super nostalgic, like most Shins.
I went to that school he's singing about. :) There's something really cool about that.
TBF, there's something really cool about graduating with James as well.
Shins..always makes me feel nostalgic!
This is underrated
My favorite song of The Shins
YeaH, any other thought?

Name for you is phenomenal too imo
@@smallestcharles I actually live the entire album now. Still severely underrated.
Will never be tired of listening to this masterpiece
The new albums style seems all over the place...and I love it :)

Thank you. The wisdom in your lyrics and emotion in your music makes me feel I’m in good company here in this human existence.
I live in Mildenhall, it’s so cool and strange to hear a song sung about the place you live and recognising certain places like the school and such.
@Mysterious Master Yoshi I shat in Mildenhall, so it's so weird to hear lyrics about a place where I left a piece of me behind. Brings a tear to the eye.
I lived the first 23 years of my life in Mildenhall - represent!
My home town! The first song to ever mention it as far as I know. 😊
Mercer grew up in Mildenhall, Suffolk, England? This I never knew. Makes me love him a little more ;) Roll on March 29th!!
I expect nothing less of you, James Mercer, and I'm in love with another Shins album. Bravo!
My favorite track off the new album. I am totally digging the lower toned vocals on this tune. Nice to hear different ranges from you, James! This one really works! Beautiful work, one of my favorite songs by you in years!

Best work I've heard since Wincing The Night Away. Can't wait for the rest of the album.
I couldn't agree more! Wincing was a masterpiece, and this album is shaping up to be one too.
Hitesh K I think Wincing is their best, most complete work till now. It's hard to fathom why did people complaint about them getting generic when it came out.
This sounds absolutely brilliant , the new album is going to be amazing.
Your expectations were right, because Heartworms actually is perfect!
I love Wincing, but I love Chutes to narrow more! Am I one of the few who think this?
I dig Chutes. It's high energy.
Wow I was based at RAF Mildenhall for 15 years. This song is sentimental to me.
I often wake up to different Shins songs playing in my head. Thank you.
What a beautiful song. This is why I love The Shins.
James is adorable.
Very relatable. I moved my kids to Mildenhall for 8 years. They really miss it to this day.
I could dance to this the whole day. So much love. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
this week's been rough. just what i needed
What a nice band. Great artist James. Always nice to hear to.
Omg, I've never been so happy about a new song.
Heh. I used to be stationed at RAF Mildenhall. Can totally relate to this song....
Every song so far has been awesome! Can't wait for the record!!
if this band doesn't get famous now, i will stop believing in humanity.
Excellent, greetings from Argentina!
I love this tune, this video, and The Shins. Have any of you ever been to see them live? I've seen them twice and both times people were talking through the whole show. It was infuriating. Still a good show though.
Nice to know The Shins are still making songs
his voice is so amazing
Love this, the country twang in a song about England. So good!
The Shins are so underrated

This music video reminds me of a Wes Anderson film - and honestly, so does the song
nightmythic which film? I would be glad to watch it :)
check out "The Grand Budapest Hotel" and "Moonrise Kingdom" - visually, they're both very similar to Mildenhall's music video.
James looks like Steve Zissou here :P
thank you, I've actually seen The Grand Hotel Budapest, but I will check out Moonrise Kingdom :)

Hi I recommend a song called 'Looking Into The Mirror' By Robert Nix of Toronto
This track speaks volumes of me moving my kids around in the USMC.

You do my dreams kinda music :D Thank you for perfect feelings, I live for them..
This is a band I freaking love….then they don’t release things for a bit. I still know I love them, but don’t think about them for a bit. Then randomly hear a song again, then are instantly reobsessed with… I know that didn’t make sense
The lyrics!! ahhh so good
Can't wait for the new album!!! thank you for your music you made my day
James does Americana all over the place. Genius.
You never disappoint.

This is quite possibly the best song James Mercer has put out since Phantom Limb. Gets me really emotional for some reason

You are spirit animal.
Damn please keep putting out music James
This would be a perfect opening song on the album.
Jesus and Mary Chain! Ian Montone once recommended them to me! I just was not in to it at the time (1985).

Hah, I was stationed there!
Video for a song about Mildenhall, Suffolk, uses footage of London. Distance from Mildenhall to London: 70 miles. Travel time: 2 hours. Seems legit.
So beautifuly well done. Love from Brazil
