The dialogue was honestly the best thing about this movie. You could poke fun at the cinematography, & some of the acting too. But what they’re saying, what’s being said, & what is meant to be said… those are the bits of this movie that are absolutely precious.

If you don't get hung up on historical accuracy then this movie was amazing. The goal wasn't to make a documentary, it was to create impactful fiction inspired by a few historical figures, and it did that perfectly. I'm sure the writer is quite aware of their own artistic liberties and had their reasons for taking them.

It is the business of the very few to be independent; it is a privilege of the strong. And whoever attempts it, even with the best right, but without being OBLIGED to do so, proves that he is probably not only strong, but also daring beyond measure. He enters into a labyrinth, he multiplies a thousandfold the dangers which life in itself already brings with it; not the least of which is that no one can see how and where he loses his way, becomes isolated, and is torn piecemeal by some minotaur of conscience. Supposing such a one comes to grief, it is so far from the comprehension of men that they neither feel it, nor sympathize with it. And he cannot any longer go back! He cannot even go back again to the sympathy of men!
    Friedrich Nietzsche,

"When Nietzsche Wept" is a novel written by Irvin D. Yalom,
    an American psychiatrist and psychotherapist.
The book was published in 1992 and is a work of historical
fiction that imagines a meeting between the philosopher
Friedrich Nietzsche and the physician Josef Breuer in
    Vienna in 1882.
The novel is a blend of philosophy, psychology, and fiction,
offering readers a unique exploration of the human mind
and the challenges of existence. It's a thought-provoking
read for those interested in philosophy, psychology, or
    historical fiction.

I read the book in mid 90's, as did a friend, is even more remarkable in some ways. I believe it's a true story & made me feel so much more intimate with Nietzsche's humanity & vulnerability & opened a window into his inner psyche that surpassed the intense mind of his philosophy & went & bought his autobiography, a very small book. It had a very amusing, satirical, almost cynical description he gave in beginning about why people write books about themselves.

    • @leslietylersmith430

I loved the book & enjoyed the movie, to see enacted what I had imagined. The book was more extraordinary, goes into more depth of Nietzsche's struggle & jealousy over losing Lou Salome, who was quite free spirit, independent, very liberated woman who had relation with both Nietzsche & a best friend of his. Was heartbreaking to feel depth of his loneliness & yet it may have been part of what fertilized his intense depth of thinking & looking at the shams, especially of religious morality he he had disdain for the hypocrisy of. Seeing this movie inspires me to read more of his writings

After reading the book of Irvin Yalom I was really excited to see the movie. But as always the movie doesn't come near the feeling the book gives to you. Some of the dialogues are taken out of the context giving you the wrong idea. Many scenes are somewhat rushed and incoherent. Something positive about this movie is the actor who played Nietzsche. He did a great job.

Quetzalcoatl was to return during the 13th cycle of the Toltec calendar the 1st of which started 1168ad, the last 13th cycle was from 1844-1896. And ofcourse Zarathustra himself was to return 3000 years after his departure, and since some scholars believe he died around the 1100’s bc then 3000 years after would be the 1800’s. Maybe Buddha not Nietzche. He just said the opposite and sugar coated it. They used a lot of vague language, such as morality, which is the distinction between right and wrong. The Russian girl who said without God then everything is permitted. This vague language and the demonic idea give ways to many iniquities. As long as you don't get caught everything is permitted is kind of his ideology and philosophy. The end justifies the means is the way of the Freemason. Same old same old. Philosophy is the reasoning, the rational of the mind. Everyone is a philosopher because everyone is reasoning and thinking. There are many accounts of how the existence come to be, but no one can dismiss that the orderly instruction is always the objectivity. The higher order gives instructions to the lower order. It had never been the other way around. That is how computer is also designed by orderly instruction by a person or team who knows exactly what to instruct, not random programs gathered and became a foundation. A dude who rants a lot is a great philosophy because he is constantly reasoning and arguing running circles in his mind. They get loud when alcohol is taken. Ask him to sneak up to himself may make him think harder and get even more crazed. They are neurotic.

Thinkers and doctors that in their day reached a zenith of discovery into the mind of man and woman. Yet while their legacies of thought and findings remain in the shadows of public domain discussions, they'll nevertheless be the eternal originals who were correct in what they brought forth; mustaches and all.

Great video. Just image if Hollywood work on something like. Perhaps a two to three hours length in depth movie. This also depends on what the people want to see so on the other hand I truly understand.

This isn't how I imagined Nietzsche to act. I always imagined him to be more stoic and shy with a good sense of humor and quick wit.

Nietzsche was in his late 20s and 30s during these supposed events. He wasn't mopey, he had plenty of friends, his lectures were not sparsely attended, he did not preach about god being dead, he taught ancient languages and culture

People have a romanticized view of Nietzsche, when he was just, well, a human being with amazing ideas that resonated with people. To my knowledge , as well, he was said to be very polite and nice as well, which contrasted his boisterous and idealistic beliefs and writings. His life wasn't all tragedy, he clearly had enough good experiences to be so affirming of it in the first place.

Yeah….. the guy was an excellent Calvert soldier. He fell from a horse and become severely Injured. Then he was a military nurse. A genius. Later in he hiked everyday and wrote books that no doubt have not had half of their impact truly felt yet. He was also an excellent musician. A gifted composer. Nowhere near Wagners level or anything like that, but he was good.
Many of the things people say about this man ignore his actual life, or is just straight up false.

I agree with you, @ginomazzei, that the movie is "too perfect". Indeed, the grey and the grit of real life is missing. But, the learning process depicted about the therapeutic effect of recalling traumatic or deep and unsettling memories, in order to discover one's free choices in life and reconcile with the past, is well presented in this movie - the start of psychotherapy was then a revolutionary idea.
