I’m back with a tv show recap and deep dive into another interesting topic. I stumbled on a Netflix show called Girl from Nowhere that has a very interesting concept. The main protagonist Nanno attends a high school that ranks its students in order of how attractive they are. The ones in the top 10 ranks get special privileges like being able to enter a special mansion, getting to eat delicious food, and butlers to cater to their every need - definitely Pretty Privilege at play here! In this day and age peoples lives are always going to be influenced by their appearance - whether we like it or not. I’m sure it’s always been like this but with the rise of TikTok, content houses, cosmetic procedures, and social media celebrities - we’re becoming more beauty obsessed every day. The youtube channel Jubilee is famous for making Ranking people based on their looks, personalities, etc. and we eat it up every time. Looks Will Always Matter It’s Not You - It’s Your Face #edvasian

Lord Jesus Christ is coming back everyone, please don’t worship celebrities and entertainment, focus on Him alone. I promise there’s more to life than money, partying, homosexuality and music. Hell is real, repent from sinning confess your sins and ask God to forgive you, I know He will if you’re sincere. Anyone who thinks the Name of Lord Jesus Christ is a joke, boldly mocks and scorns Him or takes pleasure in people who do is in for a big unpleasant surprise on judgement day IF they don’t repent and follow Lord Jesus Christ. Hell is very hot, people please repent! In the mighty name of Lord Jesus Christ, Amen 🙏💪✝️💜❤️✝️!
Idolatry such as, Islam, Catholicism, Sangomaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Santa Clausism, Confucianism, New Age, Science, Evolution, halloweenism, Harry Potterism, Politics, Donald Trumpism, Easter Bunnyism and other religions/faiths that are outside Biblical Christianity lead to hell! Don’t believe them, believe the Almighty God the Father of Lord Jesus Christ, who begot Him. Our Creator, The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is mighty, He doesn’t need a woman to beget a son, He is God. I choose to put my faith in a God who can do anything and everything, a God who has unlimited and infinite power to beget!
So, it’s time to confess that Lord Jesus Christ is the Lord and to believe that He died and rose from the grave after three days and you shall be saved if you only obey Him by praying, worshipping, praising, reading the Bible and living holy and righteously according to the Bible. You have to endure until the end, carry your cross daily and build your relationship with God by following Lord Jesus daily until the end. You must never renounce your faith in The Lord Jesus Christ, there’s hell awaiting those who reject/deny Lord Jesus Christ and those who continue living sinfully, even the Christians who don’t want to repent will face the same fate, so please repent beloved people, in Lord Jesus Christ’s mighty and precious Name, Amen. ✝️✝️

I just want to say this. Look are not everything. But we have to stop pretending like it doesn't matter at all. Packaging and branding exist for a reason. Makeup and fashion exist for a reason. • @ThePeacePlant

They matter, we all know that. The problem is that people judge others from looks and people treat them accordingly, which could be negative or positive treatment, but it's mostly negative treatment. Some people will paint a whole picture of you as a person by seeing a photo

@@ThePeacePlant That's kind of the point of the exterior. Going back to branding and packaging. Why books have covers and why people dress up.
Look at a clickbait thumbnails and a thumbnail that's straight to the point. With the first thumbnail, the cliche face expression and arrows might make you feel annoyed while the latter would intrigue you. It works in that way.
It's why we look down on clickbait thumbnails and prefer the simple ones. But back to people, there are always things you can do to change. It's not conforming but rather just improving yourself. And of course, it's not like the world has a set beauty standard. It may seem that way, but look back on all the trends all across time. Various looks cater to various body types and faces. Embrace what you think puts you at an advantage and don't stop there. Aim to be better still in many ways be it exercise, learning, or other things. Beauty comes with age. And we change as we grow up. Lastly, beauty does not always have to be perfect. If anything a bit of imperfection is like salt in a glass of chocolate milk. It makes it even better.

This is why being mid in terms of attractiveness is great. No one harasses you cuz you’re pretty. No one also treats you badly for being ugly.
Edit: ok I think I worded this kinda bad lol. Yes harassment comes in all forms and to everyone regardless. I myself have been harassed before despite being extremely average (or mid) - but it was not because I was attractive, it was simply because I’m a woman. However as many stated, looks TRULY does matter. My attractive counterparts gets way more attention, both bad and good and the severity of it was much higher than my own experience. Same as my less attractive counterparts, who definitely have a harder time making connections in life and would often get treated badly simply because of how they look. I got to go through my formative years as “invisible” because no one really cared or paid any attention to me and that was kind of a blessing

They also can't ensure the therapists on their platform are qualified so it depends on the individual therapist if it's good or not. It's also strange that apparently there are supposedly more 'therapists' being added to the platform to meet demand when there is currently a mental health professional shortage.
Anyway, those are some of the reasons why people don't like when youtubers promote them.

Men in general will almost always exclude overweight women even if they have the most beautiful face. Men are more fat phobic than women. The order is reversed so it can make men sound shallow.

This ranking system is so ugly but unfortunately we all have been through it. I have seen the ranking system both in school and college. My school was girls-only. I remember, when I was in the eighth standard, 12-13 years old, one of our new classmate did this and told me "sadly, you can't be in top 20." it was worse in college. There was a girl who would ask boys to rate girls on the basis of their physical attractiveness. Obviously, they kept on rating the same five girls, exaggerating their physical beauty to that point that they were treated like queens. Even random boys from senior classes came to see them. However, the thing that I hated actually was not only that they were rated as 'pretty', they thought that it was their duty to tell all the other girls that they were ugly. Boys in my class also thought that it was okay to reveal audio clips in the group saying, who they found ugly (basically everyone other than the pretty ladies). I am born ugly. But I know many people who had faced real challenges in rebuilding their self esteem after this ranking system. It's gross.

I feel like we don't talk enough about how pretty privilege tends to be intrinsically tied into Eurocentric standards of beauty and femininity, which find their roots in white supremacy and permeate themselves into every corner of society. These two concepts are used to determine who's "attractive" versus who's "unattractive", thus creating a hierarchy of attractiveness and an "us vs. them" mindset between white women or lighter-skinned women of color vs. Black or darker-skinned women of color.

I don’t think Eurocentric standards of beauty are rooted in white supremacy. Looking European is one thing and being a white supremacist is a totally different thing. Every ethnicity has their own beauty standards not necessarily rooted in racial supremacy. If you live in a predominantly white country, white beauty standards are going to be more dominant. The population dictates the beauty standards.

I noticed this after binge watching videos about beauty standards in east Asian countries. Many people in places like japan and korea consider white people "more beautiful." Of course pale skin is historically a beauty standard in both countries, but the preference for blonde hair and blue eyes has obviously come from western media shoving western beauty standards down the throats of the rest of the world. It's really disturbing to say the least.

@@squidwardt0rtellini same, for a multitude of a reasons, but that’s a huge one. to be dismissed on something as limited as “body” and “beauty standards” is exhausting and demoralizing. gave up on most social media platforms sometime ago (really just on yt … and been v selective of my content) and ever since then, i’ve become aware of the deeper side of human beauty. things like kindness, calmness, unity. and sometimes when i’m in that space a deep part of my heart and soul is so touched by the divine grace humans are capable of, it makes me emotional. then i go out irl and get treated like dirt to my face, because i don’t fit the 90s heroin chic aesthetic and the disconnect is what’s really painful. almost everyone is so beautiful on the inside, in their hearts, art and words. but then we see ourselves and others and it becomes emotional cannibalism, pain, and competition. it’s bs. and it will never change

    (Warning, kind of long sorry!)
I remember the last semester of school, I kind of did this “thing.” I dressed only with the same black jacket, dark skinny jeans, frizzy long hair in my face everyday. The more recent semester I dressed way better and stayed cleaner. But it was weird because, I had more friends last year than this year. I wore a mask and I always wear glasses, so it’s not easy to see my face at all. But I personally feel like my personality was more outgoing and better? last year than this year, because I was way more insecure about myself this year (well, I still am.) I personally think I was just kind of boring this year. so over this summer I thought to myself, maybe I can help brighten my qualities of my personality, trying to kind of overcome my insecurities. Actually it got so bad that semester that I literally forgot how to walk in the hallways, and when I did I would get really nervous and extremely anxious unless if I was with a friend. Last year I was insecure but not as much I guess, and just kind of brushed it off. But this year I was so anxious about how I looked and I did not want to gain attention at all. I would even be anxious about my posture or sitting position. When I was with at least one friend I would be really calm because at least Ik there was someone I could talk to. Now this summer im trying to work on both my personality and my appearance better. And to be honest, the way I dressed this year would have been decent ig, but I only dressed for male attention/for people to not notice me. It was not the clothes I wanted to wear, and not the hairstyle I wanted to have. So this summer I cut my hair the way I wanted, bought clothes that I actually WANTED, and I started to realize I look so much better. I know I would have never had the confidence to wear these clothes, but I’m going to try my hardest next semester. After I did all this stuff for myself, I realized that my confidence has actually changed. For example, the last two semesters I only wore skinny dark jeans, I hated them so bad but I was scared that more baggier jeans would look bad on me, and I thought more brighter colors would attract too much attention. But now I picked out and bought baggy jeans, my mom kind of judged me for buying jeans like that but I honestly just want to feel comfortable with myself for once. I’m not lying, I definitely still have many insecurities. I’m still hung up on not knowing how to really walk, so that still makes me pretty anxious. But really it’s the little things that count. I hope if anyone read this, maybe this will give you some tips? I just hope I’ll become the person I want to really be, because honestly this whole school year I’ve been really jealous of popular girls at my school, they’re so pretty and have alot of friends, meanwhile I’m just the quiet kid in the corner doing my work. I’ll tell you, alot of people only pick and choose by your appearance, but when they meet you be one of the most supportive, cheerful people in their life without overdoing it, and they’ll act more positive about you. If they are toxic towards you then definitely cut them out. Life is what u want to make it, don’t try to base it off somebody else who you don’t want to be.

My life motto is « I don’t go to school to date » since like maybe 5 years (I’m in 3rd year of uni now) and omg I swear it feels really good
When I have to work or go out I just wear what feels comfortable for me
like if I suddenly want to run I actually can you see
And I realized you get much better friends by being this way (because it’s my way but you choose your own way of course) than trying hard to be « appealing »
There’s that girl in my class that I can’t stand but she’s like one of the populars I guess ? There’s a guy asking her out everywhere she goes and when she wants to go out everyone follows her but when I do the same I get ignored (we were in the same group of friends originally but I don’t consider these people friends anymore)
And this girl confessed to me once that she doesn’t like uni life and I was like wth ok sad to be you because even though I only have 2 friends I do like my uni life and that’s what matters now
Find activites/courses/work that you like and be yourself there and you’ll see how you can find a lot of things to talk about to people who are also happy to be here

Thing is that when you look attractive, alot of people forget that you you're a person that have boundaries and basically think that you're just a piece of meat that they can do/say whatever to you.
Had guys catcalling me, groping me, saying degrading things to me, stalk me and the classic, someone who asks you out and when you say no they get mad bc of it, like you owe them something. It's not uncommon for guys to get upset that a girl don't like him back and will even try to punish her for it in different ways
Oh then ofc, murder! Attractive women are at higher risk of getting murdered as well

Crazy how the plus-sized woman was ranked right at the bottom. I wonder how much of the disinterest in plus sized people is down to biology and how much is down to societal values, because it's such a big factor for people seemingly
I think she had the prettiest face and was the best dressed, but it seems no one could see through to those factors behind her weight. It also makes me wonder if people view others as unable to lose weight, as opposed to a work in progress that simply needs to be given time and support to reach their full potential

    • @runway5338
      @runway5338 2 роки тому +49

Maybe you already know this so this is for those who weren’t aware.
Back in ancient times, plus sized ppl were seen as very attractive. It meant that they had the resources to be able to feed themselves well. It showed that they were wealthy enough, high ranking and healthy enough (especially for females when it came to giving birth and breast feeding) for them to be able to eat what they want. It was a privilege.
As food became more widely available, as we moved away from hunting-gathering societies, from farm-oriented societies, to modern society where we don’t have food as healthy and natural as our ancestors. But we do have it in abundance. Being fit and skinny is considered to be the new privilege since it means that you have access to healthy food compared to having to eat fast food often.
At the end of the day, it boils down to what type of privilege can be seen physically (in this case, through body types) as a result from current society, and what is available and scarce (food in this case, one of the most basic survival needs). And even though we may not consciously be thinking about it, we are hardwired to look for healthy partners since we want to pass down good genes to our descendants to ensure for survival.
It’s why white skin was seen as desirable in many countries in ancient times since it symbolized how they didn’t need to work and do labor outside their homes. It’s also why tan skin is desirable in western countries today since it means that they have money to travel and do any outdoor activity they want instead of being stuck in an office most of the year.
After writing all this, I realize it’s not just about pretty privilege but also class privilege. Whoever looks wealthy is the new beauty standard. Whatever they do is now desirable. Humanity’s got a lotta issues they need to sort out through.

In the Jubilee video, it's incredibly telling that the black woman and the plus-sized woman were pushed to the last places in the ranking and the Asian women were placed at the top. This personifies how beauty is currently defined in today's social gaze. This KPop-obsessed, Tik Tok algorithm-focused society is fixated on whiteness (not in the sense of Caucasian, literally the alabaster complexion), thinness and the coveted almond-shaped eye. If you're familiar with Asian beauty standards, you know those factors are fundamental. No, I'm not making this about race. Society has already done that for us.
It's incredibly sad that this is what we have come to. As someone who is personally familiar with both pretty privilege and victimization for being considered "unattractive," I truly wish that our personalities were all that mattered. Rankings are so juvenile and pointless. Even though society has its core standards, it is comforting to remember that beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. No matter your outward appearance, you are treasure in someone's gaze. And even if you cannot discover that person, be treasure in your own eyes. Remember your heart, remember your mind. Be beautiful from the inside out and someone will take notice. ❤️

I agree, shocking how the black woman was ranked so low. She fit many other beauty standards such as having an amazing and healthy figure.. and for the Asian woman to be ranked so high by people outside of her race? It's really sad, not in the sense that people shouldn't be attracted to those outside of their ethnic group but rather the societal factors that you mentioned and fetishisation

@@razumihin3605 Right?! It's so disheartening when men from your own race and culture don't "choose" you. Not that they HAVE to find you attractive, but it's particularly a common theme in the black community to find black men who degrade black feminine beauty yet love seeing our fetishized physiques on women of lighter complexions. The fetishization of Asian characteristics, too, is objectifying to the members of the diverse cultures ingrained within that ethnicity.
I agree; even when you "fit" most of the core beauty standards, skin color will be the deciding factor. All these women are gorgeous for different reasons. Why are we pitting them against each other? Different types of beauty can coexist and be joyful. Yet, society is always looking for new ways to put women in their place.

Ranking attractiveness and beauty are even the same thing? Regardless I don't like the competition on something so shallow, that will fade. Why even bother...? And the more I grow as an adult, somehow, looks become more of a part in a composition, than something major important. If I like my friend, does their face really matter to me? Not the fun we have, not the pain we share, not... You know. Our friendship? Why is everyone obsessed with looks anyway? I hate having a physical form. Tbh in a situation like this, I'd just put myself as last place.

ok about the cereal bcs i REALLY feel the need to talk about this
the cereal does NOT get soggier or anything if you put it first, newsflash but it doesn't matter if you put it first or not it sits in the milk for the same amount of time
yes if you put the milk in, leave and then come back it will be soggy but if you're a normal functioning human being you make food to eat it right there and then not 15mins later
so the "if you put the cereal first it gets soggy" argument makes no sense, put the cereal and the milk the way you damn please it doesn't matter and thank you for coming to my ted talk

Every single time I see myself in the mirror my perception on my face is always changing which is probably a product of body dysmorphia but yeahhh- I would say bullying makes people hot I guess, lol

Beauty ranking doesn't work in the end because beauty is in the eye of the beholder and then if you mix personality in, well that completely changes everything. And then there's like "classical beauty that others like," or "I'd fuck that even though not pretty." It's like all over the place. I just go, "nope! Guys aren't attracted to me!" *walks to the bottom of the line even though I like myself*
