When I picked up my used W. German one a week ago, I thought it had alot of gunk in it. Then I realized it was actually grease instead of oil, proofed in 1991. What are the thoughts on this? Use grease or oil on the older model sig p226s?
“Any extra oil will only give fouling a place to accumulate.”- I want to throw up every time I hear this regurgitated nonsense, freaking prove it then. I bet you can’t.
I mean its common sense. More oil = more dirt. The only people who use a tremendous amount of oil is the military to keep their guns functional in the heat of the fight, not to reduce dirt or carbon.
Thanks for the easy to follow steps on how to care for my SIG 229
You got it Pete!

Sig recommends grease on the slide rails.
I know I’m late but yeah, grease is much better on those friction points. May be excessive but I like to clean it, lubricate it and grease it
Be careful taking out the guid rod and spring. I had oily hands and the spring slipped and hit me in the eye.
Idiot
Why are you saving oil ? Does a little oil bottle cost millions ?

That statement is just cautionary and not definitive. Have fun with your oily guns.
