The tutorial isn’t outdated. But for anyone wanting to just boot up Doom right away with the mods here, DoomRPG Rebalanced has made it much easier by packing the mods into one launcher.
Gun bonsai , deus doom , lite rpg , hitmarkers ,Critical shots ,dynamic reinforcement, trophies ,slide ,djump, wall run, slomotion ,slow regeneration ,brothers in arms ,omnivehicles ,champions And those combines with open world doom [freeroamdoom],R.A.M.P. ,Alfonzone.. plus a mod with unbelievable many guns [ Stalker guns as an example] or even better .a shopping system like [lithium or guncaster or swwmgz ]
I have followed all your setup step by step. All I have is the standard levels of doom1/doom2/tnt etc with cards, new weapons and new monsters, a minimap and graveyard. But all this thing about RPG, random level and HUB with a shooting range don't exist. Notice that the "Doom RPG" you link is a standalone with a custom launcher. The .pk3 files you show in your video don't exist in it (doomRPG.pk3, DoomRPG-RLArsenal.pk3 etc.)
I'm one of the guys who've contributed to Obsidian, thanks for the shout out! The lead dev is Dasho and they're working hard to add more stuff to the generator, he usually releases a new build every week or two. They even have a build which works on Windows XP. The guy's a programming wizard!
The job you did is fantastic dude, I'm a huge fan of doom since the beginning, and obsidian is one of the best thing ever made. I never get bored of level generated with your software

Doom RPG ......Good Lord theres alot going on in that mod. Been playing Doom for 28+ years and its completely INSANE how many mods there are for this game.
The phase sisters are like gta v characters, you can swap between them with any teleportation device, that also means you have two sets of inventory, the first sister is a marine and the second is a renegade, so if you find a good weapon for a marine while you are a renegade, just throw the weapon on the ground, use a teleportation devices (the r2d2 like things you collect), then you pick the weapon, its hard to play like that because of the management, but i find it kinda fun an adds a bit of strategy to the game.
Two of the things I really like is that A) you usually show how to put it all together and B) you find such fun stuff that always gets me hype for whatever you cover. Already looking forward to whatever the next video might be.
At first in 1993, it was an original doom, then it became so much flexible that we can make modifications and we've got many ports with unique functionality. Get creative. Make. Release. Play.
I had a lot of fun playing Doom Roguelike Arsenal. It has tons of weapons (220 weapons, my goodness) that I can play with, and it has loads of monsters in the bestiary. It even has a bunch of different armors and boots that I can wear, and it shows how endless the possibilities can appear. This has been a great video!
First video of yours that has popped up in my feed and I really appreciate your effort in having made it and explained it all. Time is of the essence these days (long gone are the all nighters and seemingly endless energy of college) so it's great to have this broken down so easily. I like to return to Doom every few years and take the trip down memory lane so this affords an exciting new opportunity to really immerse myself. Hope to catch more of your videos in future. As you say, some Obsidian levels can be infuriating, but on the other hand, it's probably the centerpiece that holds the incredible potential of the other mods together. Thanks for the super cool vid.
@@Mutant_Mods Perfect settings would do away with the roguelike aspect of it. It's in the imperfections that we suffer through that makes the successes much better. As long as most levels are passable with enough skill.
It’s a testament to what a great game Doom is that after nearly 30 years it’s still going strong with its modding community and almost infinite replay value. It just never gets boring! 😁

Despite the video being 5 days old i somehow found doomrpg had a version that was 1.1gb in size. It has its own loader along with a couple mods and patches including a mod that features a massive collection of map packs you can switch between in the uac outpost. I just added your midi suggestion and obsidian generator replaced the doom2 maps
This video is EPIC AF. You have no idea how insane and creative this game becomes when everything is installed and set up correctly. The only thing that would make this more fun are companion NPCs to help you out or just to provide a fun background diversion. Do those exist for DOOM 2? Anyways, Thank you SOOOO much for this!
This right here is the definitive way to play Doom in the future. If the keybinds weren't so insane maybe adding VR in would be the cherry on top (which I thiiiink GZDoom already has?). Also: Thank you so much for actually including the howto on installing all of this. I played DoomRPG + RLArsenal a couple years ago and while I loved it I HATED having to figure out why all the things weren't working properly.

I've just tried this, *DO NOT PLAY THIS ON GZDOOM 4.9.0+! 4.8.2 is recommended.* Otherwise it will come up with errors. Edit: It also does not work on 4.10.0, I've just checked.
I remember DoomRPG from Kyle, it was hard to set it up. But once it worked I've made it into portable package for the future. Never managed to wear Power Armor or use Gauss Rifle, both taken from Fallout2. There was some requirement that I could not pass...
As great as the RPG rebalance modpack is and as fun as it can be, it REALLY does start to drag and slow down as you level up sadly. It always feels your not doing enough damage so it often ends up being a slog through bullet spongey enemies. Was something that the 8x damage bonus scout got with pistols along with augments couldn't really resolve either, and from what I understand it doesn't help much with the other classes either. Hopefully it gets addressed in the future at some point, mod is incredible besides that issue.

I feel like I wasted years of my life trying to get this to work, and I couldn't. Still this was a very entertaining video and you also just earned a subscriber.
Warning to anyone who downloads the DoomRPG rebalance mod in the description {also gigantic wall of text ahead}: You may encounter a bunch of issues regarding keybinds, stumbling into missions much harder than you thought, etc. I'm talking your key-binds and entire hud elements have a chance to be randomized/disappear, and sometimes they won't be saved no matter how many times you click Save Current Settings. Also, some basic yet vital key-binds aren't bound, such as exiting menus. Regarding the "stumbling into missions much harder than you thought" quote, well....first mission I picked, things were going fine, tens of monsters sprinkled around that weren't overwhelming but kills you quickly if you mess up too much, all fine and dandy. Up until mission 4 where enemies got so strong that even Super Shotgun blasts weren't one-shotting low tier enemies. I'll say it may have been my fault, as maybe I'm supposed to level up when i get the chance to and just didn''t know. However... After I quit the mentioned mission out of not being able to progress further, I went to other missions, and they included: -a mission where you were expected to kill 600 or 1000+ Monsters {forget which exact amount}, A bit higher than the mission i mentioned {and preferred}, basically next to the simple mission I talked about above with no indication on what I was in for. -A mission seemingly built solely for masochists or more hardcore players. Next to no Health pickups, barely enough ammo, and nearly a hundred demons per encounter.
@@rubixqube221 Regarding Keybinds, it MAY be fixed by changing your Keybinds and NOT clicking Save Current Changes. My guess is after you save them, the next time you go into options it'll go back to default Keybind settings, so it may be best to try and do all changes at once.
Also even more problems I've found: some functions don't work right. First day I played, I could drop weapons with ease. After that though, even with it bound to a key, I can't drop any.
Gotta thank you for this, I didn't know about War Trophies or DRLA EX (RLA is my fave gameplay mod). Corruption Cards kicks ass, and your vid comes with good timing since CC 4.0 released a few days ago.
Corruption cards is great standalone and i recommend it with mods like final doomer and babel. Doom RLA and doom rpg don't feel or play with the kind of balance of classic doom at all so i would recommend being familiar with the classic experience first.
I doubt anyone unfamiliar with Doom would be looking to spice things up. The only IWADs I know of that I haven't played yet is Rise of the Wool Ball and Deleweare. And the only one I've played and haven't finished is HACX because it just gets so frustrating after a point. As for what's listed here, I do wish there were more melee focused options as well. Like some GMoTA styled weapons might nice. Or even Brutal Doom's melee combo system. It would pair very well as another thing to upgrade. Especially if there was a class that could move faster or do more melee damage etc.
It's pretty funny, knowing I set this combo up and named the folder "Doom Infinite", because of the replayability and not to confuse it with Eternal, and now I'm getting recommendations for the actual Doom Infinite mod.
The doom engine is insane to the level you could make entirely unique games just on it. Doesn't even have to be Doom. With these rpg elements someone could make an epic rpg game that stands alone. If i knew how to programme this shit I'd fully make a transformers rpg game.

Can anybody help me? It works for a few launches but then ZDL tells me "Failed to launch application executable" and I cannot play anymore :( How do I fix this for good???

This is freaking insane. You could probably just play Doom mods, maps and total conversions for a lifetime and be pretty well entertained without ever having to purchase another game.
@@Mutant_Mods I grew up playing Doom and it has aged so well and is still a unique experience and blast to play. Like any masterpiece, it's timeless. I messed around with some wad's and dehacked tools back in the day, but I had no idea how Doom modding has exploded over the last two decades, until I recently came across it by chance. The mods and total conversions like Ashes and Blade of Agony are better than most commercial games of the type. Blow's my mind all that is going on in the Doom scene after so many years.
Ironically, there's a new mod called Doom Infinite (currently in its demo phase) that turns Doom into a proper roguelike. Randomized items, monster layouts and map modifications make each run different. Tons of content and replayability, and it's just the demo!
Probably your best video yet. Not only did you showcase all of the stuff the mods have but you also showed us how to set it all up. Can't wait to play tf out of Do again...
I installed RPG SE. But I only got the EXP Indicator on the left corner of my screen, everything else is Vanilla, HUD, Guns, Enemies, I don't know what's happening.
To anyone that can't see thier health, ammo etc, go to the display settings and try changing the screen size. Your screen size may be too big or too small.
I need help I installed all the mods and it and got the custom maps working but I cant figure our how to get to the doom rpg menus or any of the other menus (except the pda) or how to get to the hub level, and I cant seem to customize the keybinds for those menus either.

you probably already know this but "DoomRPG Rebalance" is a mod that combines DRPG and DRL or DARL? .. you know that other mod into one. Maybe a worth looking into it/making a video on it. I was pretty overwhelmed and still are.
Whether or not there's a way to streamline the installation process really doesn't matter at the end of the day. However, I do have another suggestion for you. I think you should continue making videos with this mod configuration. I personally keep wondering how far you're able to make it, what should you do if you're able to beat all levels in the map generation, and finally what difficulty is best for actually seeing all the content but also making it challenging enough. I still think you really have something special with this setup. I mean what are the chances of other content creators also playing with this unique configuration?
Knew about obsidian + doomrl +corruption card combo, but not the rpg mod I also put the issabele companion mod to have a good doggo following me around, and would add more pets mods if I knew of to this modlist
Is there a mod that can be added that adds more melee options or allows for more melee focus? Without breaking this delicate balance of a champagne glass tower that is.
@@phasepanther4423 i know brutal doom and its forks add a axe and improve the punch,but melee mods im unaware seen gameplay of mods that add hexen blades and addons of bd that add the bonkin stick and the big red sword from doom eternal but never try thoses
@@yanlucasdf Jab, punch, kick, and grab as well as combos, slide and flying kicks and finally fatalities. I'm familiar with Brutal Doom's hand to hand combat. This is exactly what I wish was in this infinitely replayable modpack. That and maybe some gore.
I watched your vid on making Doom roguelike, between adding the RPG elements and using the Obsidian map generator, it's very very hard to run out of content.
Getting errors over errors when trying to start it. Isn't there an easier way to start this? Maybe add all into a single pk3 and a seperate mappack.wad? Any possibility to make it coop (Zandronum 3.0)-compatible?

I'm having the keybind issue and hud overlapping issue. Find a fix for this?
@@rubixqube221 Regarding Keybinds, it MAY be fixed by changing your Keybinds and NOT clicking Save Current Changes. My guess is after you save them, the next time you go into options it'll go back to default Keybind settings, so it may be best to try and do all changes at once.
Also even more problems I've found: some functions don't work right. First day I played, I could drop weapons with ease. After that though, even with it bound to a key, I can't drop any.
@@Manglet762 Still not working for me. Those are strange bugs. We should make them aware on github as the devs are active. Maybe they'll put a fix out
havent had any of those issues but the shop does not work at all for me and steals all my money without giving me the stuff I actually bought.
Gotta thank you for this, I didn't know about War Trophies or DRLA EX (RLA is my fave gameplay mod). Corruption Cards kicks ass, and your vid comes with good timing since CC 4.0 released a few days ago.
Corruption cards is great standalone and i recommend it with mods like final doomer and babel. Doom RLA and doom rpg don't feel or play with the kind of balance of classic doom at all so i would recommend being familiar with the classic experience first.

I doubt anyone unfamiliar with Doom would be looking to spice things up.
The only IWADs I know of that I haven't played yet is Rise of the Wool Ball and Deleweare. And the only one I've played and haven't finished is HACX because it just gets so frustrating after a point. As for what's listed here, I do wish there were more melee focused options as well.
Like some GMoTA styled weapons might nice. Or even Brutal Doom's melee combo system. It would pair very well as another thing to upgrade. Especially if there was a class that could move faster or do more melee damage etc.

I've never heard of DOOM RPG before and I'm so happy you've introduced it for me, this is the greatest thing ever; keep up the great work man!
It's pretty funny, knowing I set this combo up and named the folder "Doom Infinite", because of the replayability and not to confuse it with Eternal, and now I'm getting recommendations for the actual Doom Infinite mod.
The doom engine is insane to the level you could make entirely unique games just on it. Doesn't even have to be Doom. With these rpg elements someone could make an epic rpg game that stands alone.
If i knew how to programme this shit I'd fully make a transformers rpg game.

I'm a big fan of games like Path of Exile and Destiny, I was looking into coding a mod that would implement RPG systems into Doom and looks like some talented folks beat me to it! This looks awesome!

This is freaking insane. You could probably just play Doom mods, maps and total conversions for a lifetime and be pretty well entertained without ever having to purchase another game.

@@Mutant_Mods I grew up playing Doom and it has aged so well and is still a unique experience and blast to play. Like any masterpiece, it's timeless.
I messed around with some wad's and dehacked tools back in the day, but I had no idea how Doom modding has exploded over the last two decades, until I recently came across it by chance. The mods and total conversions like Ashes and Blade of Agony are better than most commercial games of the type. Blow's my mind all that is going on in the Doom scene after so many years.
Ironically, there's a new mod called Doom Infinite (currently in its demo phase) that turns Doom into a proper roguelike. Randomized items, monster layouts and map modifications make each run different. Tons of content and replayability, and it's just the demo!
I seen it and I still think this level generator is better.

I installed RPG SE. But I only got the EXP Indicator on the left corner of my screen, everything else is Vanilla, HUD, Guns, Enemies, I don't know what's happening.

To anyone that can't see thier health, ammo etc, go to the display settings and try changing the screen size. Your screen size may be too big or too small.
I need help I installed all the mods and it and got the custom maps working but I cant figure our how to get to the doom rpg menus or any of the other menus (except the pda) or how to get to the hub level, and I cant seem to customize the keybinds for those menus either.
Im also having problems with the mini-map covering part of the hud is there a way to change the size or turn it off?

you probably already know this but "DoomRPG Rebalance" is a mod that combines DRPG and DRL or DARL? .. you know that other mod into one. Maybe a worth looking into it/making a video on it.

Whether or not there's a way to streamline the installation process really doesn't matter at the end of the day. However, I do have another suggestion for you. I think you should continue making videos with this mod configuration. I personally keep wondering how far you're able to make it, what should you do if you're able to beat all levels in the map generation, and finally what difficulty is best for actually seeing all the content but also making it challenging enough. I still think you really have something special with this setup. I mean what are the chances of other content creators also playing with this unique configuration?
Does not work with "Doom RLA EXtended" I get an error; "1 errors while parsing DECORATE scripts" Any ideas how to get around this?
You're playing on version 4.9.0 or 4.10.0 of GZDoom. It is recommended to play on version 4.8.2 of GZDoom.

Jab, punch, kick, and grab as well as combos, slide and flying kicks and finally fatalities. I'm familiar with Brutal Doom's hand to hand combat. This is exactly what I wish was in this infinitely replayable modpack. That and maybe some gore.

I watched your vid on making Doom roguelike, between adding the RPG elements and using the Obsidian map generator, it's very very hard to run out of content.
