- The Indiana Fever, like other teams, won't always have a great practice - and that was the case Sunday after their first exhibition game in Dallas, a three-point loss to the Wings. And nope, it wasn't a light practice either.
They had to stop several times for a message from coach Christie Sides, the gray team outplayed the blue several times and they struggled through adversity. Better communication is being emphasized.
Yes, these aren't all highlights. There are good and bad plays - and it should give you a better perspective of what practice was like inside Day 5 and 6 of training camp at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
They also celebrated rookie Leilani Correa's birthday at the end.
Their final preseason game is on Thursday, May 9th against the Atlanta Dream.

Men's basketball is somewhat predictable... with women's basketball there's a new player that's above the asymptote and every team in the league is scared Sh!tless ... it's Superwoman against the evil forces ... and there's no Kryptonite to be found anywhere on the planet.

Same here, and it’s not just Clark even though I love Caitlin. It’s a bunch of people in her draft class like Nika Muhl, Jacy Sheldon, and Angel Reese. Reese’s team absolutely thumped New York today.
Those guys in the yellow t-shirts are getting better every practice.

Yeah, there were a lot of people trying to complain that the guys were holding back and what not. The practice team was just waiting for the ladies to learn the plays and then compete more. That was nice to see.
@@maxxgold1 They are laying off. They let the gals go to the hole and not even try to be physical. Thats ok the wnba isn't tough either.
I couldn't wait to get home from the gym, hoping there'd be SOMETHING on the Fever. Can't tell you how much fun it is just to watch a practice.
I am an Iowa Hawkeye fan. Watching Caitlin elevate Iowa to unprecedented level was incredible. She is mesmerizing. I am excited to watch as many Fever games as possible. I am so glad she wore an Iowa uniform. The Fever will be good.

Caitlin Clark has actually boosted the economy not only in her own city, but in all the cities where The Fever will play. She's a jobs creator! People will be spending money.
Absolutely right. Now three other teams have moved the game to a larger arena when the Fever are in town. Remarkable. I call it Caitlinomics
Caitlin Clark was so efficient with transition points and transition assists at Iowa. Felt so much higher paced. I feel like she’s going to have to slow down now bc Aliyah Boston is nearly last back up the court every time and feeding her posts or centers with those quick dimes is out of the question now. Just a little too slow paced for my liking.

I have watched practice of several teams and they all practice against men. The difference i see is with other teams i feel like the men are taking it easy. That's not going to help a team get better. These guys are not taking it easy on the Fever. That will make them better in the long run

Why doesn't NaLyssa Smith have a left-handed layup..All these years of coaching and trainers and not one has demanded she develop a left-handed layup so her right hand doesn't consistently get blocked on the left side. Gotta use both hands as a Pro
It seems that the preseason games are too brief for the teams to warm up (not enough time to sharpen the players' skills).
Just curious are the guys they are playing staff, guys who played college or what? Does anyone know without guessing
Where do they find these "practice bodies" to work with?
local players. Practice is usually late mornings/early afternoons so it's not easy either.
How do they decide who is on the gray team and blue team? What's the importance of the gray team outperforming the blue team (aside that CC is on blue)?
Blue team is starters, gray is reserves

They are not playing as a team yet. The passing is terrible. They need to correct their mistakes for them to get better.
Chemistry does not happen overnight. They have a lot of young talent and have only been practicing together for a week. Give them time and they will figure it out.

I have a question though, just curious as a normal NBA watcher this is my first time I am watching WNBA games and content. I am fully invested in this team and love watching it play. But to me I feel like there defence is not very good. As a person who is watching them close do you think this is championship team as it is or do they need more pieces for defending??
They are going to need time to gel. Defense is definitely a priority, but they need to iron their offense out first, in my opinion. Caitlin is pushing the ball so fast and the team is lagging behind or they are not fast enough to get into their transition offense fast enough. We only saw a small portion of the practice footage, but once again Aliya Boston can't get down the floor to ever get easy buckets. Someone needs to rim run. I think Championships are a year or two away, unless when they gel and what they are trying to do clicks and they make a run. It's to early to really make a judgement, but they need more speed or they just haven't shown it yet.
@@maxxgold1asking AB to rim run is beating a dead horse. Let her be on the pick and roll action and Nalyssa or Katie Lou be the rim runner.
Maybe start with are they a playoff team first.

Championship? Come on. The goal is playoff, anything extra would be nice, but beyond the plan. The main thing is that Kelsey and NaLyssa are healthy, I'm not so worried about Aliyah in that regard. And Lexie could finally start shoot as with Tara. 🙄 Caitlin will hopefully help with that, but there's no point for any toooo high hopes. This is not the NCAA.

That's at least 3 birthdays since training camp started. Reese and Wheeler had one earlier.
CC looks confused whom to pass, AB looks slow. Transition to offence is far from ideal and as a whole offence looks clueless. If the only focus is pick n roll and CC shooting 3's it won't work here. They need to get others involved and set up more screens.

This team needs a lot work to find their strength , let me start with the easiest combo Clark shoots or option to pass to Boston & other teammates that need to get open

Nobody’s setting any screens.
That just wasn't in the video. They talked about getting Caitlin easier shots with screens so she doesn't have to work so hard to get her shot off.

Hate to say but if you can't play in practice .. not going to do it in the game. You "ALL" need to "Practice" shooting, layups, fundamentals.

It amazes me the amount of people who don't understand tendencies. Most right handed players prefer to drive right that does not mean they are not able to drive left. Every player has tendencies that teams game plan for that does not mean said player is any easier to stop. For instance Every one new when dirk got the ball in the post he was going to do a one legged fadaway but that didn't stop him from dominating the NBA for 20 years.

AB always travels wth. Also why do they not want to run?! Like transition play. And please for the love of god CC add a middy consistently and a floater in your bag when running towards the basket it will help you a lot.

This looks horrible, lazy, worse than Friday. Slow, Boston looks like she is miserable...what is so special about her? Genuine question? Just a mess all the way around.
Give her time to adjust to her new teammate. Might take a full season or maybe just a half.
