Sunmi is sort of like Hwasa and Hyuna, she's one to push boundaries (except that Sunmi is even more of an introvert than Hwasa is!). While Sunmi was still putting out content, she basically did whatever she wanted to do (it has been a while since she put something out...that last one was WEIRD, which kind of goes right along with her normal stuff...).
There were many times when Sunmi had to fight for her projects with whatever company she was under at the time, of course. Some of her projects never saw the light of day (no idea how many of those there were...) and some of her videos that did get made and posted were blocked from public TV (Korea is notorious for being that conservative, you know). She never actually did anything WRONG or so risque' that we would see it as BAD over here in the West. She never had a wardrobe malfunction that would get her banned (even Miss Janet Jackson, who I greatly respect, had things go worse for her than anything Sunmi ever did).
But I guess, she's risque' enough to bother you. That's too bad because she is a REALLY GREAT performer all the way around. I don't remember last time she rapped but she can DANCE and she has a GREAT voice! Maybe you could listen to her songs with lyric videos or something if her appearance bothers you; I bet you would really like the music if you hear her but don't see her.
The best part is, Sunmi is a real SWEETHEART when she's off stage! She's the kind of person that you HOPE would be able to succeed in whatever they want to do. She deserves to be successful because she is NICE, humble, thoughtful, giving and wonderful.
She hosted a thing called Showterview for a bit. She's awesome and funny as an interviewer. My favorite interview she did for that show was when Seulgi of Red Velvet made her solo project '28 Reasons' and was doing the rounds for promotions of the album. Sunmi had been a really great mentor to Seulgi before that, a real friend, so Sunmi was the first person outside of SM Entertainment to interview Seulgi for her promotions (Seulgi's best friend and fellow member of Red Velvet, Wendy, actually got to interview Seulgi first. I think it was to try to get her used to doing interviews alone and get her to loosen up a little bit before she went on Showterview).
Sunmi's interview of Seulgi was REALLY sweet! That interview had a section that made me get tears in my eyes, it was so beautiful and well-done! I always want to suggest that interview because it really shows off the humanity in both Sunmi and Seulgi. It's just one of those videos.
