I am so glad I got to them - they had been left along for 3 years in those little pots! Now i am happy with my pruning and repot cycle for these life will get better for them i am sure :)
I hope i am not the only one who sort of panicked when i realized we are halfway through May. That's a lovely bunch of pots too! Nice azaleas and all those other trees too. I am always excited to see back-budding.
I know what you mean about relaisation. I have had about 10 days off from doing anything and suddenly I am faced with a barage of overgrown maples and tight wire...
Another masterpiece. I have few trees waiting for me. Alberta Spruce is the most challenging for me but I'm ready to do a hard prune on my own cherries. The blooms you produced are spectacular on your Azelea's, This is a great season..thanks for your Bonsai show off...cheers!
So true. It took me many years before i finally had the confidence to believe what othe rpeople told me about cutting back hard. It really does work :)
Nice to hear from you again Phil - I hope all is well with you. Thanks for the kind words. I am really pleased that this worked out - first time I have done this on the Dwarf Azalea.
Nothing to add here actually 🤔 🤩 Well done Xavier. 👍 Meanwhile in Salzburg: Es regnet immer noch. We are famous for our „Schnürlregen“ which could be translated as string-cord-rain 😂 So I really would like to stick to my last times sunny cheers 😄 Martina 🙋♀️
You have inspired me to give azaleas another go! I will look out for some in the reduced section once they have finished flowering. Have you always used Kanuma? Thanks.
That's how I got them in the first place. When they look all manky you can pick them up cheap and clip them back hard. I change dover to Kanuma about 3 years ago. But they were fine before that in an ericacious (sp) soil mix.
Lovely Azaleas Xavier. Do you fertilize your Azaleas with a more acidic fertilizer or are you relying on the sphagnum moss to add the acidity needed? Thank you for sharing and hope you and the family are well!
If I remember to fertilise I just use a balanced feed like Biogold. The family are doing great - james is busy studying for his chartered accountant exams at the moment!
Thanks for the video. I had no idea you could wait to repot these until after bloom time. I have only garden variety azaleas but they are tough so the next time they need repotting, I'll wait until after they bloom. Also, what is the source and type of plant stakes do you use for your numbering system? Again, thanks. The "catch-up tour" was interesting. You British folks have much kinder weather for bonsai than those of us in the high desert country.
I normally go to ebay and get them in packs of 100. The key is to get the right kind of permanant marker! Right now I have about 400 plants with blank labels. As for our weather Susan - words do not describe the frustration of all this rain. My ability to work (without rusting) has been severely reduce. I actually haven't been able to get outside and do bonsai for over a week now. Those maples desperately need prunign and wire removal....
Nice one! Am new to azaleas and had a question pls. I missed the early spring for repotting before the buds popped. The plant is flowering now. Can I repot after the flowers die off and before we hit full summer? Am in zone 7B.
From my experiences in the Uk I would probaly not touch my dwarf azalea varieties until next Post flowering (Apr). However, if you have a relatively humid environment (greenhouse) then I would consider that a repot at this time should be viable. Regardless of whether you do this i would definitely be considering har dpruning once the flower show is over. With Satsuki I feel safer doing their repots in the Spring and sacrifice a flowering season to settle them in. But I am definitely not an expert. God Bless :)
Nice work Xav. That juniper is looking great and full of life. It's going to be a beauty that mate
I definitely think it has been the surprise find for my garden. Cheers
Looks like a good season start.

Great to see the hard pruning dwarf azalea can take. Thanks for showing the process with a catch up.
I am about to show how they look now - no spoilers :)
Looking much more lush and pleasing than my dead one. Still, have a lovely Walsall Studio Ceramics pot available for a different tree.
That is always the 'up side' of dying trees. :)

You are far too generous in your praise Guy - but thanks :)

String cord rain - I love it. No sun but I am smiling with my new Bonsai Retreat :)

Those plastic plant labels are readily available in garden centres/DIY stores (at least here in the UK) in packs of about 20.

It wouldn't be a video by you if the police didn't make an appearance 😂
Just dont so close to me...
