I love the Epiphone Casino, that is how ROCK should sound like. 😃 I especially loved your rendition of Paul's Helter Skelter. Sorry it took me so long to view this video.
Lennon wrote all of Keith Richards' parts, and Roman Polanski wrote Swelter Shelter. Don't be a pedantic dick. Phil X is a different animal. He just got into his normal improv mode right away, although there was certainly time between recording and posting to choose a different title for the upload. ; ]
i've watched a lot of these videos and i don't know if its the open tuning or what, but this has to be the sweetest sounding guitar i've heard Phil play yet... Great Job Phil and everyone at Fretted Americana!!!!!!!
you know i spent quite a long time disliking phil for his antics but they've just come to grow on me and now it's a total delight to watch him demo out guitars. such a great rock player as well, almost like the greg koch of the rock world (but i actually enjoy watching phil more).
Love Phil, cause He plays the licks right!I have a '63 single pup(freebie)with the short ugly Gibby headstock!Nice mellow tone acoustically but one couldn't crank these puppies back in the day with clean amps(they have bass on 'em)without covering the F holes or stuffing the bodies!Don't comment if you weren't alive and gigging a lot in the '60's and '70's.Trolls just:"shut the front door"!
PHIL X, man you rock. You give videos every week, with great guitars and awesome playing, and of course all the talk is very nice too. Hope you tour India sometime with your band. I'll be there.
These videos are killer, much better than the new ones that are recorded in a studio. They seem to have forgot that part of the charm from these videos is from the location.
Went into one of our music stores last week....there, in the corner, was a lefty Casino (a new, Chinese one), played some Beatles tunes, grooving away...walk around the corner, there on the wall, 6 Hofner Beatle Basses, one of 'em, lefty...salesman gets me plugged in, I'm grooving away, all my Beatle/Macca bass lines...then I see the lefty Hofner only, has a AAA quilty neck, to just cap it off....salesman starts rattlin off numbers, "You could take them both for $65.--over 24 months, we'll get you approved in ten minutes..." man, I had to walk outta there FAST!!!!!
John Lennon would've been eighty years old this year (2020), and he'll have been gone forty years on December 8th. Such a tragic, senseless loss to the music community. His killer (won't mention his name to avoid giving him anymore notoriety) is up for parole again in August after being denied ten times. Just an update on some details.
@650Golf actually the video was most likely filmed on or near Lennon's birthday (Oct 9) because FA never releases these sessions on the same day they are filmed. FA spans them out and releases them every so often (over a length of a couple months).
everytime i pick up my guitar and start to think im really good, i see a video with people vibrating their fingers all around the fretboard like this, and my ego is diminished. -.- thanks
I found a used casino at a guitar center. It sounded great and played even better. It was closing time and I couldn't decide on buying it. I thought about the guitar all night, and of course it was gone the next day. That's my cliché' guitar that got away story. Are the newer epiphone semi-hollows worth checking out?
Nope not worth it. You screwed up , You should have got it when you had the chance. You deserve to lay there every night for the rest of your life and think about how you screwed up.
I got a 2005 Epi Dot, used with SKB case for $200. Kid wanted to buy tickets to see Weezer, and I got a deal. I love it. My buddy, who usually plays Parker Fly or Kiesel guitars offered to buy it off me on the spot, after strumming one chord. You gotta play a handful, but there's great ones out there. Hope that helps.
Crazy vid man. I loved all the different (lower) camera angels. You're really charging a fair price for this guitar... If I had the money it'd be mine in a second.
@tyguy335 I don't know about Casinos with P90s but I have a '76 335 and I've played it at a rehearsal through a Twin with everything dimed and the feedback was controllable at worst. But I think Casinos are fully hollow so they'd be a bit different.
@donbehatin In my gigging days(lots of disco, unfortunately)played full time(mid/late '70's)5/6 gigs a week and used my '67 335(loud)and no feedback problems at all!Casino's are hollow with no heavy center block like 335 and would not be utile without being taped or stuffed! In fact, when I got my '63(for real)Casino that was deceased brother-in-laws,I had to remove lots of duct tape stickum from F-holes!Good pickin' to ya!I played thru a Twin Reverb also for 20 years!.... Best, Ty M.
Playing the Casino, you should have done some 'rooftop stuff' like Don't Let Me Down, or better still, Lennon's lead part on Get Back. Otherwise, great playing, great energy, keep it up! ;-)
honestly when Looked it up thought it was going to be more expensive than what it is.Really good guitar at a fair price IMO.I only have to save up another 6,499.00 dollars and that baby is mine!!
@PetePlayesBass Harsh response!! lol. But I think you misunderstood the thread... His birthday is on the 9th of October. Most magazine's and music-related websites had been celebrating his 70th birthday at the time of the video's recording (early october) and this is what Phil was referring to. Even Yoko had a special album remastered for the occasion...
I think you are right....one of the very few times John played bass.....I seem to remember McCartney talking about it.....George played bass a couple of times on a 6 string Fender
I love the Epiphone Casino, that is how ROCK should sound like.
😃 I especially loved your rendition of Paul's Helter Skelter. Sorry it took me so long to view this video.
Phil X ALWAYS entertains. An absolutely brilliant guitarist.
These reviews, now from about ten years ago, will never be bettered.
"Hey guys its Phil X were gonna do a little lennon today!" *plays keith richards for 10 minutes* *plays helter skelter, a McCartney composition*
Lennon wrote all of Keith Richards' parts, and Roman Polanski wrote Swelter Shelter. Don't be a pedantic dick. Phil X is a different animal. He just got into his normal improv mode right away, although there was certainly time between recording and posting to choose a different title for the upload. ; ]
That is not true, Kieth wrote a majority of parts.
...and Lennon was on the Fender Bass VI while McCartney played most of the guitar (and it was Ringo who had "blisters on his fingers!")
it's better this way
I believe paul owned a casino in that colour
love Phil's enthusiasm and all the great guitars played. Love to hear Phil playing a Peter Green style piece. Slow bluesy with little touches & feel
Awesome cover of "Brown Sugar". Really close on the tone to the original. once again i find myself inspired by Phil X.
I could just sit and listen to this all day
i've watched a lot of these videos and i don't know if its the open tuning or what, but this has to be the sweetest sounding guitar i've heard Phil play yet...

Thats gotta be the best sounding guitar i've ever heard
Love the enthusiasm, I am shure you are having fun which ever guitar you play!
After playing for 15 years, I finally bought a hollow body guitar because of this video.
This has got to be the best sounding Epiphone I'we heard by far!
I'm into gibson these days, but hell... I want this guitar now!
You don't get 'Blisters on your fingers' by 'tapping' the drums.
'its the beatles it can't be better' - love it!
Phil is so much fun to watch and listen to.
It's crazy how John Lennon and dimebag Darrell both died on the same day 24 years apart and they were both shot by a crazy guy
If theese vids stops... The Guitar-World will break down.
VIVA PHIL-X
Phil the Tenth strikes again. Awesome!
i think you love playing music~~because you smile is real!
The best Phil X video !
so far one of the best videos from Phil X and Frettedamericana...just missed AC/DC this time...
I love how Phil plays all those old songs like they were just written yesterday.
"Have fun asshole." -- Some guy I never met, but should have.
It's been 30 years... Love you and miss you John Lennon `O_O Great playing Phil!!! Like always! peace!
PHIL X, man you rock. You give videos every week, with great guitars and awesome playing, and of course all the talk is very nice too. Hope you tour India sometime with your band. I'll be there.
LOL, I don't know why but I skipped straight to 7:59 and I am so glad I did. It was amazing!!!
Phil has great vocal skills.
Great playing, enjoyed it
Hey Phil I'm sitting her in TO listening to 24 hrs of Lennon on Q107...emotional for sure....
phil I love you man !!! your videos all ways crack me up ! rock on bro !
These videos are killer, much better than the new ones that are recorded in a studio. They seem to have forgot that part of the charm from these videos is from the location.
Oh shit. As soon as you started singin twice as hard, i got so many flashbacks from summers, its unbeleviable
@comics4komix sorry guys we made the vid around his birthday, seemed like a good time to put it out
Great!~Phil,MORE lessons please so more people can ROCK ~
great guitar, great camera work, great guitar lesson and the GREAT PHIL X!
Inspiring - infectious - incredible thank you!
when you played helter skelter, i got goosebumps man! this guitar is awesome
Hell yeah, Helter Skelter! My favorite Beatles song!
This may be the best guitar/guitar tone I've ever heard
Wait til you hear Brian May’s tone then tell me if this is still the best tone you ever heard.
This sounds beautiful!
Always with an electric smile and happiness :D

those p 90's on that particular guitar sound ever so nice. and would sound insane thru a plexi
Hell yes!!!! That guitar is killer.
How many songs does Phil actually know? I swear it has to be in the 1000's.
It's not about knowing how many songs you can play.. He just knows his theory, so If he hears something he can play it.
Inigo That’s not it works... do you know nothing about music?
He developed his ear so he can hear a song and know what's being played. It comes with time and experience of the fret board.
phil x is like a dream guitar teacher. no homo.
WOW...SOUNDS AMAZING!
This was the most badass thing I've ever seen dude you absolutely have to put a full helper skelter lesson on
@650Golf actually the video was most likely filmed on or near Lennon's birthday (Oct 9) because FA never releases these sessions on the same day they are filmed. FA spans them out and releases them every so often (over a length of a couple months).
Brilliant 'homage' to the Stones PhilX. Keef' would be proud.
Great selection of tunes Phil.
@frettedamericana DO WONDERFUL WORLD!
everytime i pick up my guitar and start to think im really good, i see a video with people vibrating their fingers all around the fretboard like this, and my ego is diminished. -.- thanks
I know that feel bro... All the time.
I see it they just have a different style. Thats all. I am more of an improvisation blues person. Just let it flow, man, and you will get "better".
That's vibrato. Just look up a youtube lesson on it.
new epic camera angle...love it!!!
It's still awesome it's still shiny!
the best helter skelter cover!
UR FULL OF SKILLS MAN!
So good thanks for the guitar lesson!
WOOT! 12 minutes of Phil X!!
Thanks guys over at frettedamericana!!
'If we go Queen and the Vox AC30'

This guy's great! Good guitarist! Great singer!!! Funny guy!
Wicked guitar. I want one,
I'm not watching UA-cam clips anymore where I'm forced to wait out an entire advertisement beforehand....

Whacked...I Love it!

you're right, that solo is just impressive :) simple, short, but excellent!
Right on.. Love the Stones!!
You don't see Phil play open tunings often, very cool!!
John Lennon was right. Every Stones song sounds the same. I thought Brown Sugar was Start Me Up
Wonderfully RAW !!!!
less we not forget dimebag Darrel 1966-2006 dec 9th r.i.p.
I like the neck pickup tone on that guitar......i need one like yesterday lol
Phil is the man.
He's got the best demos.
Crazy vid man. I loved all the different (lower) camera angels. You're really charging a fair price for this guitar... If I had the money it'd be mine in a second.
Im going to just glom on and say it. You fucking ROCK!
Sweeet sounding and looking guitar. I'd kill for a 1960s Casino, can't beat that hollow bodied P90 scream.
@tyguy335 I don't know about Casinos with P90s but I have a '76 335 and I've played it at a rehearsal through a Twin with everything dimed and the feedback was controllable at worst. But I think Casinos are fully hollow so they'd be a bit different.
Phil X & The Black Crowes FTW!

your a mad one heh, mums gona like this video she loves you lol
keep it funny!
1961 Casino is more keith Richard's than John Lennon's! But what an amazing guitar!!! Nice video as always!
How do you figure?
How do you figure?
@@justineslick6463 It's just that Keith Richards's Casino is from 1962 and John's is from 1965.
@@DaviTrombela84 paul had a 62 also. I just think lennon is more known for the casino than either of them.
@@justineslick6463 Oh yeah, that's true! He still has it!

gyselboy for a vintage one, a standard 2018 one is $600
Haha his ringo impression is priceless! :D

The tuning is open G.
And yes, it is Ringo who yells "I got blisters on my fingers".
HOLY SHIT!!!!!! That thing sounds great even out of tune!!!!!!!
Phil is bad ass guitar player
I think you are right....one of the very few times John played bass.....I seem to remember McCartney talking about it.....George played bass a couple of times on a 6 string Fender
1:10 that sounded so good, even without an amp
Phil is the man
I listen to Phil X jam out on all these guitars while i do my homework,....well at least try to do it.
