Ya, but if you start from the beginning you might be able to get from here to there. Cool to hear how you figure it up and more important Why. Thank you for sharing. Now to find a good powder coat guy near me...
hey man i got a video idea for ya, can you do a vid on hinge fabrication. you can make a few different types as examples i like using sucker rod and a pipe nipple but its kinda janky. dont have a lathe to make nicer ones :/
One of the best looking rack I've seen. You've gave me some ideas for a rack for my 2nd Gen Dodge. You got to love those pulse welds. HTP makes some awesome welders. Thanks for sharing

Beautiful welds. Thanks for making this video. I'm a welding noob. Just got a HF stick welder 220v and will be doing a more basic design with the mesh going all the way across. I haul firewood so I want some protection for the glass and also would love to mount some KC Hilites on top of the rack. I bought the welder to fix the broken fuel tank lid on my Sienna and this is exactly why having a welder is going to come in handy! Thanks again!
Nice! My last one was solid mesh but it was annoying backing up with it. The other day i tossed a log right into the center section haha luckily it didnt break!
Haha you're lucky! Man I hope that one day I can weld as well as you do. Holy crap those welds are just beautiful. Luckily my truck came with a built in rear camera in the tailgate handle. That said they make retrofit tailgate handles with a camera built into it. Obviously you have run the wire underneath all the way to the dash....I don't know if they would have one that fits your truck but it may be something to consider! Since you probably one have a 1-din space for your stereo your only option would be to have a small display on a rear view mirror (which they sell as well). If you have a 2-din space you can install a new headunit which is what I did. Media only, no CD, handles the rear camera input when I put the truck into reverse. Works amazingly well. Bought it from Crutchfield.com Here's a link to the first thing that came up when I searched for "tailgate handle camera". Just punch in your year, make and model and see what comes up! www.rostra.com/tailgate-handle-backup-camera-systems-by-rostra.php
I've so missed your "longer" videos .... this one has been an absolute pleasure to watch! And torture :-( I'm so envious ... AND jealous! How come - even in fast-mo - you make MIG'ing look so effortless?!? I know I've got a shitty cheap MIG that only has 1-6 power settings, but still - your MIG-like-TIG work is something to behold! Pure envy. Can't wait for your next video when I'll be slightly masochistic and watch the whole thing - Twice!!! lol
Geez that looks great! Thanks for the intimidating video too! We have slightly narrower pick ups (called utilities or utes) here and my rack has about 2” square tube as the head or top section. My question is about dog ears & how to design & fabricate a set that tilts up (folds up and down) so that you’re still left with a relatively flat top section when folded down to handle wider materials or can be folded up to function as traditional dog’s ears……I’ve seen some flimsy ones but not really sturdier ones. I often carry fencing poles or pipe that can’t be tied off against the smaller dogs ears. Have you seen some clean designs in the US? Another design and fabrication question is this: On many utes (and it’s compulsory on any vehicles that enter mine sites so where I live that’s about 50%) they have to have auxiliary turn, brake, reversing and indicator lights mounted to the top bar on each side and also an orange revolving beacon in the middle …… (can send pics!!) if you were to build a “do everything bar” that also included a 42 or 48” led light bar facing forward then how would you go about fabricating all of that into a 3 or 3.5” aluminium round tube. The bigger “do everything “ bar would still look like a larger sports alloy bar but on closer inspection would have those 3 or 4 sets of lights mounted into cutaways in the tube…… it’s an idea that I think I’ve mangled together from some US manufacturing but I can’t remember exactly where or if it’s all my own imagination. Either way, I’m a bit stuck as to how to design such a beast of a top bar (inc fold up dog ears) and I’m wondering whether you have come across something similar? Oh, and I had a thought about video content too. It’s a fabrication process issue rather than a welding one and it’s kinda like this: What considerations and what are your work flows when it comes to grinding and smoothing out the welds? How do you deal with inside corners and flap discs? What tips and tricks do you use to ensure you keep a grinded down section square and flat etc? I was watching your video and saw you grinding flat tube I think and thought “so what do you do on an inside corner that keeps it looking consistent?” Whereas I would make a bit of a stuff up leaving the corner bumpy and not consistent (let’s not start on the shitty welding in the first place, shall we?). Plenty of projects here if you run out of stuff to do at home!!! Bring the family! Greetings from the south western corner of Australia. Anyway, enjoying the vids like all heck and please keep them coming.
I'm not sure bud. You might be able to design dog ears that screw into place. I've always seen the lights installed on the flat piece of metal under the frame of the rack
Loved the video and the rack came out looking great! Any chance you could email me the cad file you made for it? I’ve got access to a water jet table at work and I’d love to make one of these for my 06 Silverado.
I hope you charged for all that labor . Looked like it took forever . Like your channel . I have the same problem underestimating the time . Also seen some imperfect stop and starts with the mig . So now I don't feel so bad 😅😂. Keep up the good work.
Your welds are already intimidating; and now youre using a software program that honestly would just give me a HEADACHE trying to figure out. I'm noticing the sanding discs you are using. Sanding discs rarely work good, and wear out quickly. But I've yet to try whatever those are that you got. You also got clean cuts on the same saw that I have. Two questions: Which cutting blade were you using? Which sanding thingies are you using? THANKS!
What program are you using, been using SketchUp for about 8yrs now and thinking of switching? My sentiments exactly, the more measurements the better. Any time I build these days I use Sketchup even for bath remodel tiles etc. I can get a really good idea where the problems lay or the best pattern to lay on anything.
Sorry I should of been more specific on the striping disk at 10:30 min of the video? What is that disk and where can I buy it? Thanks Again and Great Job!!!!
When describing the dimensions in the beginning you mentioned "splitting" the angles and dividing the angles in half. Why did you split the angle dimensions?

Thanks dude and no problem! Keep slaying dude!
Awesome build! The finished product looks great
Thanks guys!
Outstanding work.....those angles take it to the next level!
Beautiful job. Considerably stronger and better made than the actual truck it's going onto!
My flatbed for my dually is coming out slowly. I need to get ideas for my headache rack. Looking good.
Very nice work sir.👍

This was an amazing build, why was there someone who dislike this video. Someone jealous I’d say, great job and thank you for sharing.
Good job. Nice touch turning the tube up like that. Doing that makes it just that much harder to cut. Looks good!
Ya I've always wanted one like this. I built a v block that fit in my saw to hold it 45'd. Worked great. How've you been bud?
Good to see you back thanks for the videos

Hell of a fab hand. Nice job!!!
That's a beautiful piece of work! Now spend some time on prepping it for primer and paint! (don't forget to etch the steel before you prime).

That headache rack looks awesome! Also what’s that old pickup I see in the background? When are you going to build that thing?!??!

That was beautiful. I'm currently looking for a rack and this design was awesome. Do you take orders!?!?

If i remember right it was .090 or .095 and i use fusion 360
@@5thStreetFab Thank you
When describing the dimensions in the beginning you mentioned "splitting" the angles and dividing the angles in half. Why did you split the angle dimensions?
If you join two items at, say 45 deg you have to cut both at 22.5 deg so that the overall angle is 45.
@@MrDavidwlawson To achieve the 70° angle where the bottom-side piece meets the base plate, would you cut the tubing at 20°?
@@Treydigital No, you want the baseplate flat.

what software did you use to design this?
Can u send me the measurements for that headache rack please
