- Team coverage from KHOU 11 News provides the latest updates on power restoration, cleanup and recovery after Hurricane Beryl tore through the Houston area on July 8.
Why are you not fact checking the centerpoint statements? Instead you just repeat their propaganda. They were supposed to provide a restoration timeline by the 11th, the map still does not provide details for the majority of neighborhoods
Just imagine when a bigger hurricane comes.
Get a portable generator it helps
@@rcDoomwhat if it tares the house what good will the generator be
@@_killingjoke88 2.2 million no power not 2.2 no roof
This hurricane season will the worst on record for the amount of them coming. So this no power routine will play out many times.
This is the second storm with no power in Houston this year so far.
I am starting a new job hopefully soon and I plan to just make a hurricane fund. Like $1000-1500 for hotels, gas, food. It wouldn't have bothered me to just drive into town for work if I had to.
We just literally almost had a fight near Alief. 3 CENTERPOINT trucks were parked nearby in a parking lot. We were so happy and thought we were about to get power. A bunch of people were talking to the drivers. Suddenly, the head guy tells the others they have to go. People were so mad. They said they were waiting on some crew that didn’t arrive so they had to go to another area. Apparently, it’s the hot dang TREES! They were waiting on a crew to cut down some trees around the poles or something, but since they didn’t show, their boss told them to leave to service another area. People began yelling and screaming. Even started throwing water bottles at them. It’s the trees! They don’t have enough workers to remove the limbs and other crap to allow the electrician pole guys to reconnect! Damn you CENTERPOINT!
And I wonder why there's no tree trimming crews?? Life in the MAGA paradise 😎
@@robertward8035HOUSTON?
Yes that is why it's taking so long. They have to wait till the trees are cut by a third party, then they can go and do the job. When they say they were prepared, they weren't.
There is a tree by my neighborhood that is hanging off power cables over the road. Cars are driving under it. Instead of removing it, they put up barricades on one side of the road so cars have to use the same lane going both directions. It's dangerous and stupid.
should have recorded and uploaded it.
It wasn't even a Cat 1. This is unacceptable.
Here in Texas, everything is BIGGER, including power outage.
Just Houston tbh
@@bns434 really? Remember the winter storm back in 2020?
Same old rhetoric.
Political maneuvering.
Media mouths what the utility PR states.
Lessons never learned.
At this point you'd better quit hoping the nanny government will actually be prepared and act quickly. Plan how to take take of yourself. Power will just get worse, so figure out NOW what you're going to do the next time.
Still no power from Baytown. It’s like everyone around us has power on Garth but we’re forgotten about!
Yehh I feel bad . Houston is such a shittyyy place .
Baytown here also, no lights either! I called CPLE$$ and was no help because they didn’t tell me when I going to get my lights back!
Nyc metro said subway was delayed because a passenger pulled the emergency brake on the train, when really it was because the train broke down from lack of maintenance. Companies like Centerpoint will lie just like that to avoid bad publicity.
People that are still without power should not be billed for July or August. Jason Wells, please resign.
Centerpoint (HLP) have always gotten away with lengthy outages. I worked for Swb/ATT & we always thought they were given slack while we were so heavly scrutinized.
It’s 5:35pm on the day of this report. I don’t see any gotdamn estimated restoration dates and times on the website. WTF? I have also not received any updates from Centerpoint even though I’m signed up for their alerts.
Thank God, Richmond had power since Tuesday and even earlier in the area where my children live.
Did government, governor, mayor do anything for better preparation? Spending taxes money wisely on city infrastructure?
Someone should check supplies around the country to see how many transformers, wires, poles etc are available for future summer, fall emergencies…
How is Centerpointless supposed to pay Abbott his "campaign" money if they don't cut corners? How I ask!
Except my area where the map doesn’t have an eta.
The government of Texas needs to get its head out of its donor hopes and fix the regulations governing the power grid in the ridiculously incompetent preparation of the utility companies. Someone in the upper levels of the utilities should be criminally charged. Fines are just a cost of doing business, which the utilities figure out a loophole to just turn around and bill the public to replace. Until corporate leaders start going to prison or be charged with RICO violations and lose their own money, nothing will change. Your governor is still living in the pre-civil war mindset.
Personally, I don’t care. I’ve been without power since Monday at 8am. Run me that electricity…
Facts fam
Why live in Houston?
My mom said she saw a bunch of Centerpoint trucks parked in front of her job. I wish they get off their behinds and restore power on my street. Its been 5 days...
You go help them then. Go see what they have to do. Besides a 3rd party needs to clean up the trees on lines. Electricians don't do that
What are you not talking about Freeport tx. We still do not have power.
I feel bad for the People with no generators , everytime I catch myself complaining I remind myself some have it much worst
They still have not come to Ella Blvd
You can put a helicopter on Mars, and you can't make a power pole that won't snap in two. Imagine that.
Some people should evacuate until they learn their power has been restored...
They have to go to work.
Hotels are sold out & the rooms available cost $500+ for just 2-3 nights .. Centerpoint should team up with FEMA & help with hotel fees especially for people who will be without power until next week but nothing is being done .. other people have jobs to keep their bills paid
Some people can't afford to just up and leave. They should have their electricity restored.. The electricity that they pay for!
@@kellyd220 CenterPoint should be paying for your lodging until you can return home...God Bless...
@@girlfromla508 Yes, this is their responsibility and mess...
It wasnt that hot today though and tomorrow will feel the same. Sunday will be hot again so be ready
In FL, they usually get the power back in less than a week for a category 1. Maybe 2-3 weeks if a 4 or 5 sits on us a while or hits most of the state. Our power companies seem to have plans in place to make sure they get the main strips and commercial areas back online, first. Sometimes, it doesn't seem fair because they help people rich enough to own businesses over the little people, but the businesses can provide food, water, and even air conditioning that private houses probably wouldn't to other people. The restaurants (even fast food) often end up packed until the power is restored for the other citizens, but it's nice to let grandma and grandpa get some A/C.
I honestly think CPE got hacked in conjunction with the storm. At any rate, Jason Wells has to go.
It look like they don't want to pay others companies money to work for them
I was in Houston for Hurricane Alicia back in 1983 I believe it was, and in northwest Houston afterwards we were without power for 2 weeks. So it isn't unusual (for Houston anyway) to be without power for a long time after a hurricane. And I don't know for sure, but I would guess that the Houston area has more people needing power restored now than it did then.
In addition, Hurricane Ike made landfall at 2:10 am CDT Saturday, September 13th, 2008 near Galveston, Texas. Ike was a category 2 hurricane at landfall with maximum sustained winds of 110 mph. We were also without power after that storm for around 2 weeks. This isn't unusual people, it happens after every hurricane.
What makes people think they are different and deserve quicker service now than in any hurricane of the past we've had? Yeah, Beryl wasn't as large or powerful of a hurricane as some we've had in the past, but it still caused a heck of a lot of damage though that is going to take time to recover from. Get used to it if you live near the coast!
Oh I forgot to mention I was living in Pasadena, Texas during Hurricane Carla...that was a bad hurricane...you all think we got power back then after 2 or 3 days? lol....I was just a kid then so I don't remember exactly, but I know it wasn't a quick fix though.
These commentors are either too young to remember or not native Houstonians.
@@jojokatz3256 Yes, I believe you are exactly right. They just don't know, but are learning now if they live here in Houston. I feel badly for anyone without power because I've lived through that several times in the past, and so I DO hope that they get their power back on as quickly as possible.
I've been living here since 2001 and stayed blissfully ignorant when it came to hurricane season, but I learned my lesson after Ike. We went 11 days with no power. I still hate scented candles to this day.
I am now prepared with food, water, solar lights, solar portable power stations and I drive a Prius kitted out like a mini camper in case I have to sleep in there (hybrid means I can run the air and it uses about a gallon a night).
I refuse to be dependent on a system that is too disorganized and too busy finger pointing to get the work done to get power restored. I've accepted that in order to get help, I have to help myself.

Get over here to repair wires so we can have gas to sell. .
My mom's business needs power. Please electricity is needed ASAP
Not on the national grid . Results inferior infrastructure.
This wasn’t a grid issue.
@@DebraJohnsonBeing on the national grid requires compliance with national grid standards. Texas is below national grid design standards (like weather proofing).
@DebraJohnson it's 1000 percent a grid issue. They have no standards to uphold here in HTown. That means no maintenance standards, no standards for treee cutting g or burying lines, zero incentive. The cause of this outage is exactly that lack of investing into the infrastructure because they don't have to as long as they keep paying Austin politicians
